**UPDATE** Advice/statements received from Donaldson since uploading video - Do not to open the filter assembly until the element requires replacement. The Urethane seal has a some memory and could void warranty re. seal quality if an element is re-used. If assembly is pulled apart, Donaldson requires a new filter element be installed. Official statement from Donaldson regarding indicator gauges: Initial restriction level provided is based on a standard LandCruiser 200 vehicle without a snorkel. Performance enhanced vehicles, with or without a snorkel may trip the indicator prematurely due to increased restriction. This is not a true indication of remaining filter service life. If the service indicator is tripping prematurely it is recommended to maintain a regular service interval for servicing of the air filter. Should you wish to change your indicator to a 30”H2O set point gauge please contact Donaldson for a replacement Free Of Charge.

My vspec is only Mod and lc200 is stock no tune. So the claim is wrong. I was going to replace with armax one but if your does it can't see it will fix it, but did forward facing fix the pressure? Your lc200 is stock?
@XploringOz Жыл бұрын
@@ausguy4385 Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they come installed it should be a straight up install into the vehicle, no need to take it apart and remove it? It can be installed as a single unit and then the intake pipe fitted to complete the process. Interesting to hear about your V-SPEC results. There's obviously some sort of restriction in your setup there. Is the service window completely red, or is it only just starting to activate? As per the video, my ARMAX snorkel setup works perfectly with no indicator issues. Further, I'm running a tune which has increased boost values and demands more air than a standard.

On your well-considered recommendation, I've just installed one of these in a 2019 LC200. Have to say how impressive the kit is, both in design and construction of the housing and filter and in the supplied kit of parts and fitting instructions. There were a few minor niggles during installation, which I've relayed back to Donaldson, but overall I'd say the company has got this application just right. Thanks Nathan for all your videos, but in particular for the product assessments and experiences.

I noted the amount of leaves and bugs at the bottom of the filter. Since running the snorkle ram head facing rearwards, the amount of solid matter (leaves, bugs bees) coming into the air box has reduced by 99%,

I've had it fitted on my facelift 200 for a few months. The fuel economy has improved by atleast 1 litre per 100. The vehicle also pulls harder than before. My only gripe is with the vibration around 1800 rpm. They should have also added a lock piece for the MAF sensor cable. I had to use a zip tie to keep it locked in place. I bought this the same day you released the previous video. Been waiting for this review. I'm really happy with the product.
@XploringOz Жыл бұрын
Mate, that's an awesome result on the fuel economy and power results. Must be happy with that and a true testament to the reduce the restriction and increase element surface area. Interesting to hear about the vibration though. I know there has been issues in the past with vibration and resonance with their factory setup too. Unfortunately I can't comment to much as I've been lucky enough to avoid this issue so far. I think Safari used to make a baffle to try and change the airflow a little to avoid this, but I'm not sure how effective this was. Cheers

G’day Nathan Excellent review of the new Donaldson airbox and filter. Having read sofar all commences from your viewer , they are also valid commences. Sure, I have also some commences for you and your Audience review. My LC 200 is still garaged and fitted with the airmax snorkel, std Toyota airfilter box and paperfilter running a mild tune and the original ram head. No vibration at all , but a nice airflow suction sound from the ram head. no complain. New Donaldson airfilter box just arrived not fitted. 30 degree brass angle to fit. Should be in the kit or buy for a few dollars Sure to fit with Teflon tape.. both side. During installation. Extruded Foam seal on filter unit: This problem is we’ll know in the Industrie that these foam seals on the D filter press easily together but hardly go back full in shape. There is room for improvement!!!! Request Donaldson to change the cheap foam seal to a much better material Objection to: Not allowed to open the lid for checking inside the airbox and on the filter lower side. Donaldson what you talking about? That is D BS.! I have never heard this from our supplier M&H for their powercore air filters. Foam seal memory effect?! Sorry Donaldson you use the wrong material for the seal !! For such cost of a replacement filter the +2 dollar for a good quality sealing material will not harm much your margins. Donaldson claims longer filter life time which we all belief is true. But on the other hand it MUST BE GUARANTEED that even after 30k and 20 times open and close the lid the seal has to be in perfect shape, function and sealing 100%. That said, should be all customer who bought the system request to Donaldson. I am happy to have paid 1200.- AUD for the Donaldson airbox with powercore filter to avoid a dusted engine and much expensive rebuild or factory new engine unit. But, I disagree in strongest possible way against the : DO NOT OPEN THE LID FOR INSPECTION.. I have also one question to the audience: Does anyone have installed the new Donaldson airbox together with the Top spin H002394 pre filter and what different suction sound noise it makes while engine rev up, full load and back to low or idle speed? PS. Sorry for the extended commence… tomorrow of day and long weekend… PS Nathan Did you weight your new pro core filter unit befor installed? Would be interesting when 0.5 kg dust is inside the filter paper. Check after your 1 year trip and let us know the driven kilometers and weight gain then. Please factor in the ram head and clear view pre filter usage. Safe trip and happy days.. Cheers

As always Nathan, a great video, but this time answering some the questions that I have with the unit. I have TJM Airtech snorkel and my indicator is showing full red the whole time. So i will get in touch with Donaldsons as well. I have to say that whilst i haven't done the Kms that you have, that all seems to be going well. On the flipside the install was a bit more challenging, as there were bolts and the drain plug missing from the kit, and some of the bolts supplied were incorrect, so the install process ended up taking a day and a half, due to having to source replacements and to fabricate my own drain plug as nothing has been forthcoming from Donaldson's so far. That aside, its stopping the dust, which was always a challenge before, so its now moving in the right direction. Thanks for your great vids. 👍

Good to hear that it's 'kind of' working as designed. I agree that it's great that the filter element is stopping the dust, but as mentioned here, there are a couple of snorkels that are creating restorations TJM being one of them. Here's hoping that maybe the 30" gauge may help a little more with monitoring.

Just checked mine and the service indicator is just touching the bonnet lining. About a 5mm line. Does not seem to be adding much load onto the indicator, but if the lining sagged (e.g. became saturated with water or the fixings failed) it would increase the load.

Thanks mate, so in relation to the vibration issue, this has been something that has floated around the LC200 community for quite sometime when fitting aftermarket snorkels. I don't really know why this occurs and why some people don't experience it, while others do. There must be some sort of turbulence in the airflow creating this. It's hard for me to comment as I've never experienced this in my setup, now or with the factory airbox installed. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

No problems man, glad you liked it! Yeah 😔 Didn't realise that until I took it out 🤦♂️ 😆 I reckon it would too, maybe using a dry snorkel sock would help just to remove that big debris. Hi Nathan. I got mine sent out to me based on your video from a few months ago. Recently had my 200 serviced and I mentioned the airbox issues to the Toyota service manager by various owners from a few platforms Lo and behold they dismissed what I said and stated that of its not genuine Toyota Air filters the warranty will otherwise be void. Player dumb. The manager even mentioned it is acceptable to have a light powder on the inside of the intake pipe and outlet of the Toyota airbox. What a seriously stupid comment.
@GR8Tmate Жыл бұрын
🤦♂️ Mind numbing stuff……like you can somehow control how much dust gets through before your engine is dusted. There’s some real douchebags in these stealerships. Toyota should be solving this issue & not wobbling their lips and speaking jibberish. Having an aftermarket air filter does NOT automatically eliminate you from being able to put a warranty claim in, however if they can tie the warranty issue to the filter your probably toast.
@SamsHouseWashing7 ай бұрын
Yep, deny deny deny... Counter accuse. Our LC got dusted and there was absolutely zero liability accepted.
@RocketRod-y8b Жыл бұрын
I certainly want to fit one. But I am almost 100% certain that Toyota will make a comment about it during my next scheduled service and "suggest" it would compromise any future warranty claims. It is a shame I virtually have to wait until the vehicle is out of warranty before I can perform this certifiably, perfect modification (read UPGRADE).
@GR8Tmate Жыл бұрын
They could try that but they need to be reasonable with it. Might be time to change Toyota dealers. I had a highly modded 79, took it to a dealer to ask about something & he carried on about the mods, I drove out and into the next dealership who just went about repairing my vehicle. An air box mod shouldn’t affect a gearbox or suspension warranty claim, any service rep that tries to tell you this is manipulating his own Todger. 😂
@1989cranston Жыл бұрын
Mate that isn't how warranty works. You can modify your vehicle, if something breaks and toyota want to blame your modification, THEY have to prove that your modification directly caused it. They legally can't throw a blanket claim that the vehicle is modified and the warranty is void. This has been Australian law for awhile now. How I know this you wonder. I had a heavily modified 2016 ford ranger which threw some engine codes at 45,000ks. Ford didn't want to know about it because of all the mods I had done, which included for the engine bay atleast, an exhaust, intercooler and piping upgrade, air box upgrade, snorkel and a catch can. They tried it is modified and not our problem, I didn't accept them and looked into further. Because of the fuck around they gave me over 9 months. When it all came to light they took my 2016 px2 ranger and gave me a brand spanking new 2019 px3 ranger with all of the modification I had done added to the new one from Ford so now all of my 25k medications are warranted throw Ford. Was a shit experience but it ended well for me.

2019 Sahara with Armax and Donaldson just fitted. Car is immaculate no other engine or exhaust mods. Since progressional fitment of both items in one day I had terrible shaking felt through the go pedal. Took it back and they refit snorkel as snorkel bolt was rubbing on guard. They fixed that but still a noticeable resonance at 1200rpm which is annoying. Safari do issue a ‘plate’ for the factory airbox to reduce the drone which they have sent me but they don’t have a fix for the Donaldson yet. I’ve spoken to Donaldson and Safari and said “guys your gear doesn’t play nice together sort it out pls” but my installer said every 200 with an Armax gets the low rpm resonance which I find off if owners with same items are saying they get zero. It's interesting to hear how many different results people are experiencing with this product and goes to show how difficult it must be to produce products like this. In regards to the element removal, I'll check into this re. instruction guides. In relation to checking, Donaldson are working with the thought that the indicator gauge is the only tool used to check the health of the filter. This will provide much more information than a visual inspection and therefore eliminates the requirement to open up to check. How is your V-SPEC performing with the indicator gauge? Any issues? @XploringOz Жыл бұрын
So the indicator can always be easily reset at any time. If the restriction in the intake is normal, then the filter will only trip the gauge when it has been blocked or filled up. I could go back and forth with different snorkel attachments, but I'm happy now with the RAM head given the lower restriction and the much, much better filter quality 👍 I'm at 16000km's now and no sign of the indicator gauge tripping yet

Nathan, you might be interested to know that I saw something on a KZbin the other day where someone was discussing dusting issues with their LC300, so if it’s true, clearly Toyota are bigger b@nkers than what I first thought them to be. So overdue for a class action on this issue. As for this little Donaldson device being the sole method for deciding on whether a filter element is due for replacement concerns me a little bit as I don’t trust items that could potentially fail to be the only decider on when I maintain my filter. I guess it’s possible to remove the Toyota pipe on the clean side of the filter occasionally to check for dust ingress without disturbing the Donaldson filter element? Like others have said, if you book that in for a service anywhere you can’t speak to the mechanic directly (ie: a stealership) then you just know the mechanic is going to remove the filter to inspect it. 🤦♂️. Maybe Donaldson needs to provide a key lock to secure these filters to prevent that. Not knocking the unit, certainly looks like solid construction etc, pity Toyota couldn’t take note for the OME product. 😡

The indicator gauge doesn’t work. It’d be more up front to just state that. Also, I had to look up the price for the proprietary Donaldson filters because it wasn’t stated. They’re $240, which is pretty expensive.
@XploringOz Жыл бұрын
Definitely disagree with that entirely. The indicator gauge works exactly as designed, it's just not dynamic or adjustable. The gauge builds as restriction is added and will most certainly provide an indication as to when that filter requires replacement. Further, yes the filter is much more expensive, but 2 things to consider here. Firstly, a much longer service life. I'm up to 18000km's with replacement and have completed many gravel roads. Secondly, a few filters is much, much cheaper than a dusted engine or damaged turbos and I can attest to this personally.
@mjhmech4903Ай бұрын
Replacement Donaldson elements may be expensive compared to OEM but given they actually do their job makes the $$ relatively insignificant compared to a dusted engine + the logistical trauma it presents (ask anyone that has had this happen on their big holiday!). Have not seen any issue with the filter restriction gauge ourselves providing they are installed correctly.

@@ausguy4385 Hmm, would be interested to see the difference. I do like the ARMAX and it seems to have one of the most free flowing designs on the market. Again, would be interesting to see the exact level of restriction created by the filter and compared this to a factory setup.

It's a shame this has being a issue since 2008 let's be honest.. it's a shame it took a world renowned company so long to come out with this.. but thank good it's here now..

Agreed, very disappointing. Although we shouldn't have to spend the money on products like this, at least Donaldson have stepped up to the plate 👍

Oh what a dusty feeling . What has Toyota come to ,instead of fixing this issue they pass it off as being normal . No quarry/mining equipment would tolerate this issue . Dump truck average 1 kilo of dust in filter . Yet none in the engine . So Toyota WHY ??

Absolutely, that is the million dollar question and frankly quite disappointing 😔

Hopefully Toyota will be embarrassed enough to fix their poorly designed air filtration system. Considering the price they charge for these vehicles!!

You would hope so, but there are reports that the 300's are showing the same results 🤦♂️

@@XploringOz I believe it. After watching that excellent video, l've been considering a Donaldson Air Filtration System for my Ford F150 4WD, (if available) as l drive about 30% on dirt roads and approximately 25%-30% off road and including numerous water crossings. Having a raised intake that a snorkel provides, is an obvious advantage.

Donaldon have been a world leading filter manufacturer for decades. Most commercial airlines will use Donaldson filters to clean air for cabin, avionics and cockpit. Their level of R & D expertise and product development is unheard of in 4WD industries.
