Panzer Aces (if I remember my conversation with Alex Vallejo) were actually born out of the Panzer Aces magazine. If you were one of the first people to sign up for a subscription when the magazine first started, you got 6 Panzer Aces paints with each magazine for the first 8 issues. Once the magazine ran through their allotment, Vallejo released the Panzer Aces line as a separate line. The line has some great utility colors, like rust colors, dirt color, rubber, wood, etc, that you generally didn't see in the other lines. Mind you at the time that Panzer Aces came out, only the Model Color range was available(on the model side), and not the plethora of lines we have now.

Massively informative, thank you! I'm not much of a Vallejo paint guy, though I do dig the various mediums they have available. Then again, I'm at an oddball point in my own painting journey... Doing a lot of mixing acrylic artist inks into mediums to (sort of...) make my own paints, and tumbling down the rabbit hole of oil paints, as of late, so shifting off of my preferred premixed line is sort of a chase that I need a reason to dive into. The metal color line might be one of those reasons, though, if I can find it locally.

Great explanation, as always. I’m a long time user of Vallejo colors, mostly the airbrush ones and I can confirm their durability. For instance try not to paint Mecha colors over pegs in a gunpla as this may make difficult to insert the pegs or limit movement with possibly breaking the peg (I talk from experience 😉). Also the thinning ratio changes with colors and range of colors too. Your thinning sauce is fantastic and your book is a great reference on thinning ratios.

But Mecha Colors are different when it comes to brush painting. Maybe do not thin them too much for brush painting. I would recommend Model and Game Colors for brush work though. Cheers. ☺️🎨🎨

Hello! Long time watcher, I think this is my first time posting. Vallejo paints are one of my go-to brands for painting. I've been using the model colors for painting miniatures for a long time. I've only more recently started working with an airbrush, and only started to feel competent with an airbrush last year. Anyway, a few observations: I was working on a giant robot model recently, using Mecha Color Yellow Ochre in my airbrush. Going back in with a regular brush to fix a few spots where my masking tape slipped, I decided in the spirit of experimentation to try hand-painting with Model Color Yellow Ochre. It was very, very close, but there was a slight difference in pigmentation. Second observation - Mecha Color actually works pretty well with a regular brush. I had a patch where I was between compressors, and decided to pull out a cheap 30MM model to paint by hand. It isn't as paint-efficient as using the airbrush, but the coats went on smooth and strong regardless.
@DonSuratos
@DonSuratos 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes you can hand paint them all. Although I find adding mediums to Mecha Colors has a different feel to Model Colors, thus I stick to Model for brush painting and usually Mecha for airbrushing. ☺️🎨🎨🎨

In my mind? If it's Vallejo, it's all good! Much as I love my P3 paints--they're the ones I learned to paint with, after all--I am a stone Vallejo user now. I still find uses for the P3 paints and for my Citadel paints, but Vallejo is my first one I reach for 9 times out of 10 these days. Especially the Metal Color series, I LOVE those paints.

I'm so glad I found your channel, thank you so much for the video =) ! I was so confused about all of those paint ranges, now I feel more comfortable with buying my first set! Mecha painters tend to default to airbrush due to the flat areas, and lack of fine detail that needs to be painted. The detail is formed during assembly.

Vallejo has way too many colours. It's completely confusing for new people. They need to shrink down their product lines by at least 50%. It would also be more profitable, as you aren't wasting time and supplies producing so many products.
