I was 8 when this released and I’m 37 now. There’s a reason I love to see gameplay of these old games and hear the music just like this… it’s because each one of these games.. each one of these soundtracks takes me back to a moment in time. It takes me back to a specific time, and a specific person that I played the game with. Whether it was my father watching me play the game.. or my neighbor Andrew sitting next to me as we play through the entire game. It’s not simply nostalgia to hear soundtracks like this… it’s like we’re warping in a time capsule. Returning to that moment and reliving it. Remembering the scenery, the atmosphere, the smells.. it’s returning to that specific room, in that specific house that we played the game. It can be very happy, or very sad for some of us. These aren’t just games… these are little time capsules. These are part of our brain, part of our hearts.

Back in 1995, my family was going through rough times, and playing DKC helped me escape from daily life. I particularly remember they day I finished it, and felt like I absolutely owned the world! It made such an impact, that my dad used to call all video games "playing the gorilla" or something similar. Sadly, he passed away ten years later, in 2005. When GameXplain did their DKC 25th anniversary celebration week, one of their audio interviews was with David, and he said Aquatic Ambience he feels like was his best and favorite piece he ever composed for the series. He loved it so much that's why he re-recorded a new version for Tropical Freeze.

I wonder if David Wise reads these comments. I hope he does. DKC was my first video game, I was 5 years old. I have great memories of playing it with my siblings and cousins at home. Even my dad liked it, especially the mine cart level. Another good memory I have is from one reunion at a friend's house back in elementary school, nobody could finish the underwater level and when it was my turn to play, I aced it and they were all astonished I could pass the level.

Listening to the music of these games is such a bitter sweet feeling for me. Reminds me of moments that I'll never get to experience again. i used to play this game as a kid when snes was still the thing. this song always stood out as my favorite from the series. i stumbled back on it one day as an adult from another person and was like man what is that i feel like i know that one. low and behold it was one of my old safe spaces. so glad it got restored and isnt in terrible audio quality anymore. its a nice one to just come back and listen to sometimes.

I am sorry to hear. My cat died suddenly at 6 years old. She could have lived another 12 years or so. It was unexpected and the vet said she had a heart problem we didn't know about until after we found out she died. I just hoped that she didn't feel pain and i still get heartbroken when i see her pictures and think of how fast she passed without a warning.

When I was in elementary school, my dad and I would play DKC after work/school. It took us months of trial and error to beat the game. I looked up to my dad for being able to beat the harder levels. He lost his fight with Dementia last year. Miss you dad. ❤
