I'm here to add to the "Danny Mo was my teacher at Berklee" pile. Seriously you couldn't ask for a more ideal instructor, he was so supportive and encouraging at every level of proficiency. Incredibly nice and charming guy with incredibly helpful advice no matter who you are. Much love to him, I'm glad he's in the modern content creation biz, I studied with him over 15 years ago and he's still just as cool as I remember him.

Great to see Danny here. I had a couple of classes with him at Berklee and I wish I had had more. About 10 years ago I went up to Boston to visit and I saw him and he actually remembered me! (since we're both from NY, we had that connection) Sweet dude and a helluva bassist!

Danny is such a great guy, only was able to take a few classes with him during summer programs but, but I took more away from his classes than any other class. He even wrote me a recommendation when I was thinking about applying to go to Berklee full time

I feel your first honest reaction to Donna Lee. Even when I had worked on it for a while I heard it as a minor line (until then I had only gotten familiar with the Jaco-version). Was really weird to hear the original with the chords for the first time..

@@anferz It may not be the most informative reply, but with woofy tones like that you can often get much closer with a graphic eq pedal and the right kind of subtraction. Rolling off the volume knob (in addition to the tone knob) on passive basses can also warm up the sound a lot!

This funk version of Donna Lee sounds very cheesy to me. I prefer Donna Lee by bassist Alex Bershadsky He plays it with slap technique. I don't like it because it's slap, just the arrangement is funkier and not as cliché funk

Amazing. Nice video and interpretation. It also may not be for everyone. Imho, Jaco took this to another level. Clearly. Still, this is nice work. I’ll add, it never ceases to amaze me that on internet, someone always has to put someone else down. And both ways…especially with a diatribe scolding response. Really? How about maybe we don’t all have to have the same opinion? You lose your point when you go into net shaming of another opinion. If a person says it’s not their thing, it should be fine. Why put them down? What’s that about? Nobody is always right. And it’s ok to hear something and it’s not your bag. We don’t live in boxes… where we all do the same thing and everyone is supposed to be in ‘ the cool club’…or are we going there? Hip and cool is really what you yourself think it is to you. Not someone else. I suggest we all act like mature adults when commenting. It shows intelligence and wisdom. ✌️
