I'm so glad and proud of you that you found Donna Summer and came to love her. I grew up in the 70s with her Music being the most powerful, sound-wise and every dance floor was Donna Summer. She was the pioneer of Modern Dance Music and her sound formed the basis of Music you hear today. She laid down the gauntlet for the likes of Whitney, Maria, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Gaga, Madonna (and even Kylie Minogue who idolizes Donna Summer). I have all her Vinyls and also bought all her CDs when they became available from the 1980s.

This is why she has the best range as a Female Singer. Throughout her recording history she disguised her voice on some of her tracks that you wouldn't even know it was Donna. Whereas someone like Whitney sings and it's just the one vocal style (therefore unmistakably Whitney)

Although we may argue that her sound was very eclectic after her Disco era, and that this single/album was poorly promoted by her then label (Geffen Records), I do believe her 80's career would've been more successful had people in the music industry (notably at Geffen) had provided her this kind of recording material. After her Disco era, and like many other artists, she should've pursued a more traditional Funk/R&B route...
