I think when many think of Donna Summer, they think of Disco and many people didn't like Disco, despite its popularity (or because of it). The woman could be soulful, rock out as hard as Springsteen, touch your soul with a ballad and, of course, make you get up and dance. She is The Queen Of Music to me because she could sing anything.

Donna does an absolute beautiful, rendition, and so full. The Norwegian singer Sissel who was also the voice throughout the movie, ‘Titanic,’ has also an incredible moving rendition in her native Norwegian. It’s her 2009 version on utube, and is a powerful Joy. It’s worth listening to,

I remember the night this aired. I came home and turned on the TV just as she started singing. Had not seen it again until just now. I just found it here on KZbin, but I remembered the stage, her dress, hair and of course her delivery of O Holy Night. What a treat to see it again after thinking about it for 41 years. The beauty of her singing is the power and resonance of her voice. She really refrained from a lot of contrived embellishment, and forced emotion. She is most relaxed when she is singing, and the sounds she makes, are resonant and relaxing. Yet her voice was very emotionally. She did her own thing, and she is GREAT! There is no one like her, however, the screetchers and yellers, are a dime a dozen.

I have always loved the way Donna Summer sang this Christmas hymn from the very night I saw her perform it on the "Solid Gold" Christmas Special in 1982! It still remains as one of the most beautiful and powerful vocal deliveries of this beloved song as ever! Since hearing her sing her amazing rendition, "O Holy Night" has remained my favorite Christmas hymn !

I remember the Xmas day Mrs. Summers sang this song. It left a lasting memory. I spent years after hoping I could watch her sing it over and over again but this was before the internet so all I could do was replay it in my head. Which is why I remembered the clothes and hair style she was wearing so vividl. I especially remembered the high note (Divine) in the song. When I was finally able to access this video it was exactly how I remembered and even better.

If I didn't have a reason to love this woman before she blew me away with this wonderful performance of my favorite Christmas song on that 'Solid Gold' night. Never forgot it. So inspiring - can you really name anyone who had such a strong voice yet such beauty - a wonderous chameleon she was - "acting" vocally as she felt the song required - but NEVER into the crazy vocal acrobatics and runs that are so unneeded - just an extremely POWERFUL and MOVING singer - I wish I had the chance to have told her what a true friend her talent she was to me - especially growing up (or inward???) in the second half of the 70's - every release seemed to speak to me - especially my favourite lp of all time "once upon a time" - it's like all her music was released only for me!!!! Aside from her amazing voice - the thing that drew me to her was her SMILE - to me, the most sincere and beautiful in showbiz ; - ) Still cry and miss her dearly - she really was a true friend to me....maybe now she's able to know how I, and so may of us, really feel about her!!!

I remember this Christmas special on TV! I used to have the entire show on a recorded VHS tape! One of the absolutely BEST renditions of 'O Holy Night' I have ever heard! Beautiful! She has such a great voice. I love how she sings the song straight, not all those riffs trying to find the note, sorry Christina. She hits the note and holds it. She has a clarity to her voice that rings like a bell. And, she seems to do it effortlessly. Making it look easy when you're singing a song that has a range like O Holy Night means you've got a range and vocal control that is rare indeed. You, and your incredible talent, are missed.

There is a lot of power behind her voice, and the tonal quality she had- so much depth to her voice and so rich. She didn't have to run up and down the scales (I can't stand that when it is too much). Even her speaking voice was beautiful. You know, when she sings now, she has to hold back a little because her voice could overpower nearly anyone. I love a singer who can sing FULL VOICE like Donna did, and sing as strong as she did. God, How I miss her.

I do wish that Donna would have had more UK TV appearances....I can't remember any in the 1970's .. the earliest I remember is an appearance on 'Live From Her Majestys' in 1987 and her first appearance on Top Of The Pops that year performing 'Dinner With Gershwin' which got to number 13 in the UK Charts (There was the odd promo film on TOTP in the 70's performing songs like 'I Remember Yesterday')...she did do several performances proomoting her 1989 album 'Another Place And Time'
