The destructors book is actually the bible complex we have in the real world. While the house could have still stood, overtime it would be destroyed in value or declining quality of care. Like when God says he reaps the wheat and only burns bad ones. Just to eventually use the wheat and burn it to make bread. Its like the destruction is either prolonged or brought in a powerful approach so that the jackals or greed does not destroy its legacy. So that it is destroyed in its glory and still known for its greatness. Beautiful.

It's about the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. Notice how there is a star on the door of the loo? It is the star of David. Also notice that 'Old Misery' has a lot of money, well that is a trope against the Jews being rich bankers. In the Bible, God allows the destruction of His own Temple as a punishment of idolatrous Jews. Greene is referencing this but he is actually referencing the destruction of the Third Temple which will happen in the future (book of Revelation) by Gentile nations against the Jews. It is because it will be claimed (gnostically) that the Jews are responsible for the earth's destruction (in this book that saving the Jews from the Nazis led to the destruction of London during the Blitz). Greene was reported to be a anti-Semite so it all fits that this book is actually a celebration of the destruction of the Jews in revenge for all the things that Greene believes the Jews are responsible for. This is a very prescient book as scapegoating the Jews for all the world's ills is literally happening right now all over the world.
