I've heard many people sing this song and no shade to them because they often do sound very nice..for example my girl Amy WineHouse but No one can come close to touching this man and the way he sings this song. He just sings it with way too much passion and soul..you know it was from the heart...

***** Speaking of Amy’s cover of “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know”, there is a rare live version that stands head and shoulders over all the rest, imho. Donny Hathaway’s live version is transcendent, however. Absolutely perfect and painful; I am a fan of both and grieve for the loss of both artists. Look for: KZbin v=362JArvhAqg “Amy Winehouse I love you more than you'll ever know LIVE (Inédit RARE)” - Duration: 4:52. by Onlymusicmusique 3,641,414 views

Blind Man Bert Late to the party I Know, but Amy's version is incredible. But yet, Donny still holds the all time greatest title on this one..imho. The seductive instrumental, along with Donny and his painfully soulful voice is just untouchable.

Donny had the magic of being able to express all of those little things most people find it hard to say. I'm a soul fan, but this isn't Soul music. This transcends that. This is spiritual. Every time I hear this it takes me to another level.

Like most of the greats, everyone loved him, but no one was there for him when he committed suicide. Being a manic depressive myself, you can tell he had it in his words, from the highest of the highs (queen of everything) to the lowest of the lows (tiny grain of sand). But many creative geniuses have mental illness. Which causes the other I'm not sure
@thelink56468 жыл бұрын
Amen. It also came partly as a result of his hit album with Roberta Flack (his second album). Much like Amy Winehouse spun out of control after her second album, Back to Black. Folks don’t realize perhaps how MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) was likely the driving force in her life far more than alcohol, and later drugs. I’m there with you, sister. Type II Bipolar and coping. But yes: it’s in his words, and this song stirs up emotions deep every time I hear it. Regarding the association of these chemistry flips with creativity, I don’t know. For me, the principal difficulty of my milder form of bipolar disorder is lost relationship, great ideas and projects which never come to fruition because despite them being solid creative ideas, there are just too many cross current thoughts and whims passing. It becomes had to follow through except in the most meager ways when you are hypomanic, depressed or full on manic and swinging about all the time. You’re totally right. [“Blind Man” Bert Sierra here - I couldn’t figure out how to switch to my personal account to comment, so I used The Link’s account login.]
@LLindsey14278 жыл бұрын
Everything you said. I'm in the midst of several projects. My new take on things is writing down the basic idea, and then working the best to finish one, at least the entire bare bones/ draft. Sitting down and working on it when you don't want to is never as bad as we imagine it is. Lamictal helped me with all of the stuff you say, yet side effects ranged from putting me in the ER when I was upping my dosage to severe anxiety/hypomania when missing a dose. Also the withdrawal is horrific.
@LLindsey14278 жыл бұрын
Maybe you have some ADD issues? I'm not one to diagnose. I know that my comorbid OCD and official Aspergers diagnosis exacerbates things. I've been told I have bipolar and have been treated as if I do, yet my one official diagnosis is mild Asperger's syndrome. But Bipolar one runs in my family, I'm thinking I likely have that too. Most artists have some interesting/unlikely way of thinking and taking perspective which often leads to neurosis.

+Shannon Lee the closest I have heard is Frank McComb. But even he is no Donny. Apros pos of nothing, when my sister was at Howard in the early 70s, Donny would stop by, just to chat. To see how he could help upcoming singers and song writers. She remembers him as very kind, and very generous. What a loss.
