I've been saying this about cameras for years. It's always shocking to me when a beginner spends thousands of dollars on a camera when I can get awesome images from my 12 year old camera. It's not about the tools as much as it is about the experience you have using the tools.

A and B should have been shot over the same sorts of footage to make a better estimate. Those Windmill blades are so well lite up you could take the cheaper drones and still get some pretty nice shots. I started with the Mini 2 and in some scenes I have gotten some pretty nice footage out of it. Plus it got me into the hobby. I have since added in the DJI Air 2s, The DJI Avata and the Mavic 3 Classic which was my latest one. My Air 2s was my favorite drone and it still is a very nice drone, but since I got the Mavic 3 Classic I haven't used it so much. I do like the Avata, but I don't use it as much as I should. I started making more of an effort to taking the Mini 2 at least with me when I go else where. You never know what you can run into and having a drone to capture it is pretty sweet. All in all the Mavic 3 takes the win just because it takes the best pictures over all especially at night. I do love the Mini 2 because it is the best Anti-Karen drone. I do agree with you. Example we have the Avata 2 about to be released this month. I am not rushing toward it especially when DJI is pushing a newer opti sync version that is forcing us to buy new everything after I already brought the Avata package and don't want another Goggles and another controller. I have that stuff already. I might over this next Cyber Monday or Cyber Weekend whatever they want to call it try to get a refurbished Mini 4 with the controller and the screen included if it's an option. If not? There is always next year! Sorry Amy for the long, long reply!

I will not buy another DJI drone until they either get rid of geofencing or allow you to turn it off by submitting a copy of your Part 107 drone license. The whole point of getting the license is so you know where you can & cannot fly your drone, and those with the license shouldn’t be tasked with unlocking certain areas when they want to fly in certain controlled airspace areas. We only fly where we should and always get proper authorization to fly in controlled airspace, so making a commercial drone operator jump through a ridiculous set of extra hoops is just plain annoying and ridiculous. I know for a fact that there are lots of unlicensed operators out there who fly their older unlocked drones wherever they want, and they also do commercial work without a license. These people usually get away with breaking the law, and should be punished for doing so. I would venture to say that virtually all commercial pilots that went to the trouble to get their license do not fly where they shouldn’t and should be trusted to fly their drones in controlled airspace without having to go through double regulation from both the FAA and the drone manufacturer. Licensed Drone operators already use the LAANC system to get authorization and they don’t need to be babysat by DJI restricting them and making them go through tedious unlock procedures every time they want to fly in an area that might be close to an airport but still legal to fly there with proper authorization that they always get from the FAA before flying. It would be like buying an airplane from Cessna, and getting flight plans made, and clearances from the FAA, and then having to go through additional clearances through Cessna online before the airplane would be unlocked and allowed to fly there, it’s just totally stupid and ridiculous.

​@amycreighton Oh right, because the Mini drone has a 70mm 1/1.3" and a 166mm 1/2" camera just like the Mavic 3 Pro. Not to mention, ANYONE that claims that a shot made with a 1/2.3" sensor is the "same" as one made with a 4/3" sensor, is off their rocker. Don't get me started with flight characteristics, wind resistance, stability, speed, etc, etc, etc... It just blows my mind that's it was a good idea for YOU to buy the top of the line DJI drone but the Mini is good enough for us unwashed. Yeesh...

Had a mavic, too many geofenced flights even with faa clearance and tons of problems with connectivity. Also multiple events with 3 different pilots using it having not recorded footage. Been flying for 6 years. Mavic embarrassed me in front of clients. I tried autel and literally have not had a single issue, beautiful footage and it flys everytime. 3 years of flawless service.

I own 6 DJI drones, when new models come out, I usually sell my older models and upgrade. But I've been holding on to my older models lately, when I upgrade. I currently have the Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, AIR 2s, the AIR 3, & FPV Drone. All are Fly More Combo's, & I have the Integra Goggles Motion 2 Combo, to fly the Mini 4 & AIR 3 with goggles. I don't think I'll be upgrading, to anything for a long time, except maybe the new Avata 2 when it's released.

This time I agree with You to 95%...... Which picture, A or B, is the best? Recording trains at a junction for 4 railroads the issue number one is to be searching in the luckiest direction..... Being unlucky half the train has passed before the camera is focused on it. My way was getting a Mini 3 pro to learn flying, getting accustomed. Then a Mavic 3 pro was bought due to the 3 cameras. For small places like a little lake the Mini 3 pro is excellent. Even bought a wide angle lens to it. Recording wild animals the big dragon and its second and third camera does a good job. Nice hand launch! Watching numerous of droning KZbinrs a new, very pleasant way of catching was practised today! Having the drone in full sight and near You, turn off the obstacle avoidance! Let the drone descend to a convenient altitude at the hight of a straight out arm. Then walk up to the drone and pick it without moving the hand, and press the descend. The props stop within a second! Cheers!

I agree to a point. In my case, I had been flying the Inspire 1 with the X5 camera since around 2015. Upgrading to a Mavic 3 Pro Cine was a huge step up in so many ways. So it really depends on what you’re upgrading -to- and what you’re coming -from-. The Mavic 3 Pro flies so much smoother and faster than the I1. Plus, the Mavic has features not found on the I1. The image quality and color representation on the Mavic 3 Pro is much better than the I1. Also, you can’t buy batteries for the I1 anymore.

I enjoy just going across the street to the school to take my mini 2 up. I can see if there are any updates to be done, re check my settings, practice flying while looking at the drone. Practice changing camera settings. It’s the coolest technology I’ve ever owned. I like to joke with friends or ham radio buddies that my drone is smarter than a lot of people 😆 🚁

Just updated from the air 2 to air 3. Not so much for the specs... but in Europe the air 3 has a C1 label which allows for flights over building etc . The air 2 has no label... so only flights allowed 150 meters away from People and buildings

Well, I really don't agree with you, especially for people just getting into UAVs. I feel you certainly should look at the latest DJI models and pick the best one you can afford. It certainly may be possible to go with an older model if it meets your needs, so check them out as well. Get the best you can afford. The Mini 4 Pro offers a staggering amount of additional features over the M3P (ie all around obstacle avoidance, landing light, programmed GPS video tracks, better battery performance, better Controller connecttivity with Occusync 4, more advanced RC2 Controller, higher FPS 4K video, improved AcccuTrack 360 for improved subject tracking, GPS route planning with video & gimble control, etc.). The M4P will allow you to grow into it's capabilities and give you several years before needing something new. Agree, that video capabilities are not overly different in most DJI models (accept variable aperature and zoom & wide angle lens capabilities). A lot of what makes one better than another is settings used, backend processing & filter use. Your example really isn't relevant to the discussion since those videos are just commercial recordings and the "quality" really doesn't matter. You should also show the exact same route vs showing 2 videos of different subjects and you should list settings, filters, color profiles used and backend video processing details. A lot more needs to be discussed for this topic.

When the DJI Phantom first came out, I wanted one so bad. So as soon as the Phantom 2 came out, I purchased one right away and I was just so excited of owning the best drone back then. But as soon as the Phantom 3 came out, I lost interest with my Phantom 2 and wanted the Phantom 3 instead. I held back in purchasing a new drone because I would always find myself always wanting the newest drone out there. I haven't purchased another drone since the Phantom 2 but I think with the sea of new drones now and with so much features since the Phantom 2, I think Im ready to buy any drone now as I dont see anything else they could possibly add as a new feature now.

Nice video. I am looking to get a drone, the main reason is for when I go off-roading in my Bronco, and trail riding. My question, and I know you speak on the DJI, is what do you think of the Autel Evo II Pro v3? It seems to also have a lot of nice features, is sturdy, but I was looking at the avoidance and tracking. That is the reason for buying. Thanks in advance. Also again, good video, great info. Last question Air2 S, I been offered a fly more with the smart controller for 1100. Is it worth buying an older drone?

I would stick with DJI as like I said it has the best customer service and you know all of their drones are quality. You can buy an older drone, just make sure there has been no gimbal damage :)

They are the only ones putting the customer drone at risk iff you enter a no fly zone ,putting the drone stuck not allowing it to the pilot to take it back ( ridicolous ) and theuy have Ce and FCC versisons were the euro version is much weaker !!! Autel ,hubsan ,fimi and even some aliexpress drones are more than enough if your starting out !!!
