The atomics weren't meant to kill anyone; they were used against the mountain to blow a hole in the terrain for the worms to get through (the region is normally protected from the worms by the mountains). Use of atomics in the Dune universe is severely illegal - punishable by planetary obliteration. But the language outlawing their use specifies that they are not to be used *against humans* . It doesn't specify that they can't be used against "a natural feature of the desert," which Paul exploits to his advantage. The book goes into more detail. During his talk with the emperor, Paul is charged with the use of atomics, but he points out that they were not used against people, hence he technically didn't do anything wrong (who's going to blow up Arrakis, anyway?). Additionally, the threat to use them on the spice fields would not have been an illegal action, not that it would have mattered at that point because by then Paul had control of Arrakis and the spice, essentially making him the most powerful man in the universe. With control of the spice, even the Spacing Guild will bow to his demands (which is how he manages to wage his holy war across the galaxy, where the Spacing Guild would normally have priced anyone out of the ability to do so). "He who can destroy a thing has the real control of it."

Jessica has trained her entire life as a Bene Gesserit, so she had the training and maturity to process those memories and trauma….Alia, by being in Jessica’s womb was subjected to the water of life as well and also gained all that trauma and memories, but she hasn’t even been born yet so she doesn’t have training nor emotional maturity to deal with those. Someone who is preborn is at risk of “abomination”, being consumed by the memories and trauma and going wildly out of control but also possessing the power of a reverend mother from birth…..Yea…Alia is going to be a WHOLE problem.

@@nkxseal8398it’s just the fact that the whole idea of the “saviour” is artificially crafted by the Bene Gesserit. Yes, Paul does have powers and visions. But the idea of there being a “saviour” for the Fremen is completely artificial- the Bene Gesserit had this idea of “hey let’s do a crazy psychic eugenics program to make people with crazy strong abilities”, and then in order to manipulate cultures universe-wide, they planted these stories over generations about this person with these specific powers and different signs, in order so when the Bene Gesserit did emerge with this person, they could manipulate the universe into following them and therefore the Bene Gesserit. That is my understanding and I’m sure I’m getting some things wrong but that’s the general idea. Make sense? So all the stuff about “leading them to paradise” is a lie to manipulate them, but yes Paul is truly a powerful mind

Lasers aren't used in battle in Dune because if it touches a shield it will feed back and destroy the person firing in a small nuclear explosion.

correction it won't feed back the explosion could be at the shield or at the weapon or somewhere in-between which is why they aren't used if it was a predictable risk it would be acceptable but because where along the beam the reaction happens is unpredictable it's just impractical because you can't be prepared for a explosion that has a random start point
@Gunnar0017 ай бұрын
Well, there’s a *chance* of that happening. It’s totally random. It’s stated in the books that a laser could cause a detonation of varying size (up to a nuclear explosion) at the shield. It could also feedback and explode in the weapon. It may even cause an explosion at both points. Or it could do nothing and simply fizzle out. You don’t know what will happen.

I've seen it twice already and I completely agree. It's the best sci-fi series I've ever seen by far. I'm fucking stoked for part 3, which will be based on one of my favorite books in the Dune novels.

21:22, I just heard that the blue scarf in Chani's hair is meant to symbolize that she is in love. In the book it meant that the woman wearing it just gave birth to a son. However, towards the end of this movie, Chani no longer wears it in her hair. She wears it wrapped around her arm. No word yet on what that means.
@matthewdhewlett7 ай бұрын
On the arm means mourning. In the book, it's because her and Paul's first child dies. In the movie, it's because of the attack on Sietch Tabr.

9:40 In the novel, Jamis' water belongs to Paul. The fight between Jamis and Paul was done without them wearing their stillsuits. The victor gets the loser's water to replace what the victor lost during the fight. That whole scene was amazing in the books, and it is sad what they did to it in this film. My biggest complaint about Part 2 is that they condensed 2 films worth of book into 1 film.
@christiand59547 ай бұрын
No they didn’t. It’s dune part 1 and 2 which cover the whole of the first dune book. Your thinking of the 1984 version which was only 1 movie.
@axebeard60857 ай бұрын
@@christiand5954 No, I AM NOT thinking of the 1984 film. I've been a hardcore fan of Dune since 1985. I read the first 4 novels about once a year because they are comfort reads for me. Dune Part 2 suffers from the same problem David Lynch's (1984) Dune has: they tried to condense too much of a long, complicated novel into a single film. What infuriates me so much about Dune Part 2 is that Dune Part 1 proved they could adapt the film properly. Jamis' funeral and the things Paul gains from it are very important part of the story. It transitions us from the culture of the Imperium to that of the Frenen. It shows us that the Fremen are highly organized perfectionists. It shows that Fremen society is far more honorable than that of the Imperium. It has an amusing misunderstanding about water rings that helps to explain how Chani's attitude towards Paul changed so quickly. The funeral scene leads directly to the scenes with Jamis' wife. Paul and Harah's interactions show how practical the Fremen are in their relationships. More importantly, though, those interactions do something none of the films or TV adaptations managed to do properly: liberation from the Harkonnens IS NOT their end goal. The Fremen want to turn the desert of Arrakis into a paradise of lush green plants and cool water. The Harkonnens are just an obstacle in their way.

About IMAX: 1. There's a misconception that the non-1.43:1 versions are "pan and scanned". This is not the case. The viewfinders in the camera had each screen size marked on it, so that the director could choose the perfect shot for all aspect ratios. The 1.43:1 aspect ratio is amazing if you can get to an IMAX that has a screen with that aspect ratio, but there aren't many theaters which have it. (See the Wikipedia article on IMAX venues.) 2. Not all IMAX projectors are the same. Both Dune Part 1 and 2 were filmed in 4k to 6k resolution on DIGITAL. It was then transferred to film to get the proper look, then transferred back to digital at 4k. There is nothing special about the 70mm print of Dune 1 or 2. (Oppenheimer was different. It was shot directly onto 70mm IMAX film. With 70mm IMAX film, you can get 12 to 18k resolution.) So, the projector you want to find are the dual 4k laser ones (these might be listed as "GT Laser"). Many IMAX theaters are "LieMAX". 2k projectors are crap, and you're better off going to see it in a theater using 35mm film. Keep in mind that even though dual 4k IMAX projectors CAN project 1.43:1, not all theaters with the dual 4k have 1.43:1 screens. 3. Because of the issues with aspect ratio and projector, I recommend that you focus on finding a theater that is projecting it in 6k resolution if there isn't a 1.43:1 screen near you.

I only got 2 minor things that i wish they'd do different/change... first in the main fight when the Fundamentalist troops and Paul enters the "castle" of the emperor... you first see all the troops come over a ridge... and then you just see some explosions on the outside... then its a switch to the inside and you can just hear the chaos outside.... What i wish they'd do is show that push with a bird angle (overhead and looking down on the battlefield)... as they push closer and closer, no close combat but footage from far away... then it basc goes back and fourth between the outside and inside. Then the "boss fight" between Rabban and Gurney. It was VERY short... lasting only like 2-3 seconds... should have been a total of around 10 seconds... as it's kinda stupid with having those 2 fight each other for that short... yeah ofc Gurney is a VERY good fighter but comon that was just wayyy too short... Everything else was a very good job

Pauline Atreides and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen would have been the parents of the Kwitzach Haderich (KW). But because Jessica chose her love of Leto before the sisterhood, the KW arrived a generation early..

Don, I hope with the Death Still, taking Jamis' water back, you understand now the "gift" of spitting on the table, and why Stilgar was telling Jessica not to throw up. While the entire universe considers Spice to be the most precious commodity, on Arrakis, water is. Fremen still suits are the best you can get because Fremen understand reducing water water as much as possible. Any waste that can be avoided is a massive loss. Which is also why they were taking the water of the Harkonnen soldiers. While it's not good to drink, it's drinkable water that they don't need to use for cooling, and thus a water gain. Edit: The Arena scene with Feyd fighting the gladiators was filmed using an infrared filter. :3

@BigSeth10907 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think the implication is that the moment you stop prying a scale open it will immediately dive, since it can now, and you can just slide/jump off of it. If it’s exhausted it won’t bother turning around to come back and kill you, it’ll go for safety and gather its strength

I'm gonna give you the same warning I gave another reactor yesterday: This movie has not been released outside of theaters yet. Idk how you got a digital copy, most likely the recent torrent that has been going around, but be warned: Warner Brothers are notoriously strict with their content, and this being up early will most likely get a strike against you. The other reactor I warned no longer has the video up, so it's only a matter of time before they get you, too. You're better off waiting for this to actually release, most likely in the next few weeks (if rumors are to be believed), then re-uploading this

Loved it and have it on pre-order to watch again. A little bummed that they changed so much about Alia and the ending for Chani. But I can understand how doing anything with the Baron and Alia scene would have been hard without it looking like uncanny valley. And I suppose they've modernized Chani to give her a stronger arch but she was hella strong in the book anyway. Ugh, we have to wait for the next movie for her to get her emotional justice.
