I think you're one of the few reactors who got that Paul is like not a good guy haha. But there is a deeper level here, which is did he even have a choice? One of the messages that I think was hard to convey in the movie was that Paul was trapped by his role as a messiah. He had no control over the forces he was unleashing by claiming to be the messiah, once he steps into the role he was trapped by needing to fufill the prophecy. His ascendancy makes the war innevitable. "Lead them to paradise..." is a deeply ironic and sad line.

The movie doesnt explain this, but when one of their laser guns hits a shield, it creates a feedback loop at both ends of the shot, basically setting off two nukes. So if laser guns are in play, NOBODY wants a shield on.
@Gunnar0016 ай бұрын
The effect is stated to be totally random in the books. It could cause a nuclear explosion where the laser impacts the shield. It could feedback and detonate within the lasgun. Or both. Or the laser beam could do nothing and just fizzle out where it hits the shield. You never know. Nobody wants to find out though. EDIT: The effect is *NOT* random. I remembered it wrong. After looking through all the Dune books again (Frank Herbert’s books, not his son’s glorified fan fiction) the effect does always lead to a detonation at both ends. It never says anything about it being random. Always verify!

The thing about dune is there isn't supposed to be any actual magic. All of Paul and the bene gesserit powers come through intense trainjng and genetic breeding. The bene gesserit have unlocked 100% of their bodies function, basically they jailbreaked the human body. Paul on the other hand is a result of thousands of years of crosbreeding for specific traits that make you more efficiently use the spice or something. That allows them to see the future more vividly when consuming the spice. (Spice gives future vision anyway when consumed in crazy amounts, but you usually get mutated, thats what the guild navigators are)
@bartholomewjames10036 ай бұрын
A few things you might have not noticed /know: - "May thy knife chip and shatter" and the chest beating said/done by Paul when fighting with Feyd, Paul took it from Jamis (Dune 1). - When Feyd asked Paul "She's your pet?" when referring to Channi. Noticed that when the film first introduced Feyd, Feyd asked the three girls "Would you like some fresh meat my darlings?". Is because he treats them like pets. Hence when he saw Channi, he assumed she is Paul's "pet". - The worm nostrils (scene where Paul was riding the worm). Whenever the hook exposes the nostrils, it causes the worm to stay above surface and not dive. (sand getting into the nostrils irritates the worm)
@mykeyacosta84346 ай бұрын
By the way guys, paul has to navigate to get to a future he wants, so basically he could still die based on his decisions. In the book there's many times where he could have died in the fight with feyd, but his death wouldn't have stopped the war anyway. So he decided to fight not knowing if he'd survive.

Shield tech drives worms insane, cant use them in the desert.
@davidcastromacia71666 ай бұрын
Thats true but thats not the reason for the "No shields!" from the beggining. If you pay attention, they are being sniped with laser guns, which causes an almost nuclear explosion in contact with a shield. So the Harkonnens know that if they use a shield there, all of them would be vaporized in a second.
@Killerkwoi136 ай бұрын
@@davidcastromacia7166 I don't actually think they were being sniped by Laserguns, the first couple who got hit were hit by maula pistols, and no Fremen are carrying lasers when they reappear after the fight. When Paul and Jessica are picked up by Chani and Stilgar and the end of the first movie, Chani has a maula pistol, so i think that's what they're using. The lasers you see being fired are the Harkonnens firing back at the Fremen positions, mostly out of panic because they can't see them I guess. You're right tho the reason he shouts no shields is because the Harkonnens are using laserguns and its just safer no one uses shields

YEEEEESSSS i was waiting for thissssss, so hyped! EDIT: Also in the beginning the harkonnen soldier told "No shields" because if a laser gun hits an active shield, the result is basically a nuclear explosion! This is never quite explained in the movies, but that is why everyone fights with a sword, since guns are useless and lasers create massive explosions!
@JeshuaSquirrel6 ай бұрын
In addition, active shields attract worms and drive them into a frenzy.
@Killerkwoi136 ай бұрын
A couple of things 1. The Harkonnen said no shields coz laser guns and shields explode when they hit one another and they didn’t know whether the Fremen were using them / plus they had laser guns so it’s just safer no to use them. Secondly shields attract worms hence why no one uses them in the desert not even the harvestors 2. Paul’s sister, Alia, is pre-born aka a fully matured BG reverend mother in an infant’s body, she can also hijack Jessica’s body briefly. The BG consider pre borns to be abominations and extremely dangerous. 3. Paul only takes Irulan’s hand in marriage for political reasons, dw he still loves Chani. In the book this is explained much better and Chani isn’t as independent as Zendaya’s portrayal but Denis changed it so Chani emphasised that Paul’s rise to power is not a good thing (albeit the only way for Paul and his family / friends to survive) 4. Feyd-Reutha is also a product of BG breeding and possesses some of the abilities that Paul does (which is why he has those visions and dreams about Lady Fenring). In the book he actually uses his foresight to find Seitch Tabr when none of the other Harkonnens ever could

33:48 In the book the blue scarf in Chani’s hair symbolizes that a Fremen woman just gave birth to a son. The director has said that in the movie it is a sign that Chani is in love with Paul. Watch where she places the scarf in the end.
@tgiacin4356 ай бұрын
For me that said she still loved Paul, but she morns the man he became, so I get the feeling they’ll have them get back together early enough in the film. I feel like the next movie isn’t going to have a drastic time jump, so they might play more on a tragic note depending on if they’re gonna try to add the contraceptive subplot. But maybe they might not go that route. They’ll probably use Irulan as a spy and maybe try to kill the baby. There’s a few avenues they could go down, but I feel like they could really make it tragic because of his visions, especially his visions of Chani

At the end of the movie the Great Houses came because the Baron sent a message saying that Arrakis was under Sardaukar attack. Also, the reason Feyd is so strong is because he was meant to be the father of the Kwisatz Haderach and Paul was supposed to be a girl and the mother - they're almost similar in power level, but Feyd didn't have a Bene Gesserit mom to train him, so he can't knowingly tap into that power like Paul does. It's the reason why Paul didn't forsee the attack on Sietch Tabr, one prescient can't see the actions of another, something that's central to the plot of the next movie.
@NestorCaster5 ай бұрын
1:20:52: Technically, both in the book and the films, Paul unites 3 houses(Atreides, Harkkonen and Corrino- through his political marriage to Princess Irulan), and with both the marriage, and defeat of Feyd, he sits on the throne; BUT because of the Bene Gessrit’s own doing, he leads no only the Fremen as the Mahdi/Lisan Al Gaib, but is also the Kwisatz Haderach. So in recap, by the end of Dune(book and film) Paul sits as the single most powerful person in the known universe, who not only has god-like powers of seeing the future and possible futures, and being the Massiah/Chosen One of two of the most powerful forces in all the human race (Bene Gesserit & Fremen), but also leads the top 3 powerful Houses in all of the Empire, WITH ALL THE RESOURCES THEREIN, all though less so with Harkkonen, definitely so with Atreides and Corrino.

One thing that they left out of this adaptation which I think was important was the role of the Spacing Guild. In this world, power is really held by three organizations, the Great Houses of the Landsraad, the Emperor, and the Spacing Guild (which is supposed to be independent and unbiased). Everyone is truly at the mercy of the Spacing Guild since they have a monopoly on interstellar travel, however, the one lever (as the Bene Gesserit would put it) that can be used to control the Spacing Guild is access to spice since they cannot navigate without it. This makes Paul the most powerful emperor ever since he is the first to control the Spacing Guild and ultimately the movement of the other Great Houses.

@1:28:00 Notice how this is exactly like the 1st fight we see Paul do in the 1st movie: in his practice fight against Gurney, when they get each other with their blade. Now here, against Feyd, Paul basically does what Gurney did to him, and gets his opponent in the same spot.
@malexander40946 ай бұрын
The non-drugged Atreides man Feyd fights, is actually (1) the stunt coordinator on both movies & (2) seen in part one, as the Atreides commander leading the first defensive assault in the palace steps against the night attack from Harkonnen.

Remember, shields can not be used in the desert. It attracts worms. The Fremen are as ruthless as any other violent group, so what they did to the Sardaukar is very befitting. The hooks expose the worm's sensitive bits, so they roll to get at that area to the top. That's how riders get up to the point they can throw the lines. Jessica is talking with her daughter in utero, who is also a Reverend Mother. What happened is a huge no-no: pregnant women are forbidden from becoming Reverend Mothers. As was said in the previous film, the Bene Gesserit been working in the shadows for thousands of years. The homeworld of the Harkaunans have a different atmosphere. It's not as earth-like as the other planets you've seen. It makes them all look like uncooked sausages. All of the men that Feyd fought were the vestiges of the Atreides house. That said, the one that wasn't drugged was Lanville, who was a lieutenant whom you met in the first film. I'll probably add a bit more. When the emperor showed up, the Barron ordered a call to the great houses, stating the Sardaukar was attacking Arrakis. If you think about it, he was able to do what the Atreides could not. When Paul said what he did about marrying Irulan, if you recall, he also said it to Liet-Kynes. The fight between Feyd and Paul was similar to the practice fight in the first film, when Gurney made the comment of them being joined in death, when Paul didn't notice the threat. Leto didn't marry Jessica either, so there isn't an issue there, culturally. The issue is that Paul is behaving, not like a Fremen, but a Duke. Chani said he'd always have her if hey stayed himself. You know when that changed.

@@YaBoyRockLee Also the reason Paul and Jessica were so different after the water of life is that it awakens the one who drinks it to the memories of all the Bene Gesserit that came before, like a collective consciosness, so they know everything the Bene Gesserit ever knew. It allows them to play the long game better, but also it's hard not to lose who you were before.
@ryanhampson6736 ай бұрын
Jessica was trained her whole life, she has the mental strength and maturity to deal with centuries of memories and trauma of all the past reverend mothers. Alia received the same memories and trauma but without training or the maturity to process them. Alia is at risk of "abomination", being consumed by all the past memories and personalities so they you lose who you are and go wildly out of control. Yes...Alia is going to be a problem.

@1:33:45 That confusion is on purpose...Part of the whole point is the foolishness of the Bene Gesserit. They can look backward (the past) & want a superbeing capable of looking forwards. What they misunderstand about time is that the future is constantly changing, because of people's choices. So, Paul's visions are SUPPOSED to be confusing, because they are possible futures he keeps seeing. What is so terrifying, of course, is that in just about all of them, no matter their variations, all these futures he keeps seeing end in billions of dead across the universe, because of his choices.

1:27:16: also all of this from the start of the fight and all the way to the end, hits different, when you realize, Paul saw this exactly how it was before hand…. EXACTLY HOW IT WAS…😮

I’m gonna make a call, they’re gonna condense the timeline, and have the start be about Paul finding Chani, and and while he gets Chani back, Irulan grows jealous because she’s being treated little more than a scribe which will lead her to join the conspiracy, meanwhile Paul is having visions of Chani, and he knows that the longer he tries to prolong the inevitable, the worse things will become

I haven't read the books (yet), but I interpreted the final fight as being a choice by Paul (since he now can see different diverging paths of the future and all) to allow himself to get stabbed so that he could get close enough to do the same stabbing attack that Feyd-Rautha did in that colosseum scene.
@uzukiz38706 ай бұрын
tthe message sent to the great houses was that arrakis is under attack by the emperor that is why the great houses arrived, not to free the emperor.

Again, Paul sees all outcomes, the injuries sustained was chosen by him in the end fight scene perhaps self-hatred. (I just had a thought was this vision seen in part 1 of Dune?)

Rabban was never it. He was always covered by uncle's wealth and the tsunami wave of other soldiers crashing over their enemies. He's a coward and a dummy and not aware of strategy. He yelled and employed brute force and while that may work in certain situations, it doesn't across the board, so that guy got a tracheotomy in the field

Marriage to Irulan is a formality. The only way Paul holds any chance of taking control of the empire is by tying his bloodline to the imperial house. This kind of thing happened all the time in ancient times.
@quanlinglingdingle61226 ай бұрын
for context abour gurney's connection with rabban is that gurney was a slave in harkonnen's world, he endured the torture and labor even her sister got worse than him (anything above plus sexual assault and abused) the scar on his face was from rabban's whip, and later on they killed his entire family, and then atreided freed a sector/planet where gurney was in and he later swore loyalty to leto atreides as for why rabban is never "him", well hes evil and sadistic, he only know how to rule with fear but hes never a good fighter at all, hes like a scavenger like in part one where the atreides already gave up then he started to beheaded all of em

It's never explicitly stated anywhere, but the ramifications of the shield wall are significant, took me a while before I realized the significance of its destruction. The wall protects the plateau from storms and worms, meaning all northern settlements and cities don't have to worry about either. Neither of these things bother the Fremen at all, it's how Paul returns power and control to the Fremen, all off world people can only survive in the cities, and any who are enemies have nowhere to go now
@noordeepsingh17326 ай бұрын
A Fun thing about the fight that everyone missed is that Paul saw it, He saw how he won and it's with the blade of the emperor plunged into the chest of his enemy and how does he get that said blade? He lets himself get stabbed by it, making his opponent confident while setting the line to win because everyone is right where he wants them to be.
@noordeepsingh17326 ай бұрын
additionally, he might be looking at Chani during the fight whenever he got beat like "I'm doing this for us... I wouldn't force you to believe but you can see it in front of you. It is my burden." subtext op.

Timothee Chalamet is the perfect cast for Paul. Paul's age in the books is 15 when everything started if anyone's going to complain he's a skinny lil b. If anything, he was *too* menacing at the end
