In the first film, Stoick didn't listen to Hiccup and almost loses his son. This time, Hiccup doesn't listen to Stoick and loses his dad. I think Hiccup's mistake is part of why I love this movie. Everybody makes mistakes and, yes, sometimes they have BIG consequences. It's heart-breaking but it's human. We all need to learn to accept when we make mistakes, and make sure we grow from them and don't just repress it or overwhelm us because it feels bad.

Hiccup being so set on talking it out and using diplomacy makes a lot more sense when you've watched the series. We see the 5 years in between the first and second movie, with Hiccup learning, exploring and leading the others. He convinces and changes so many people's minds throughout the show that it's what he _knows_ he's good at. It's the kind of leader he is. He's never been the type of leader to use threats or force, instead using his intelligence and ingenuity to solve problems, and his kindness and empathy to understand others - whether they're dragon or human. Hiccup has never been a "fighter", he's always been someone who wants to do things differently, to change the world by changing minds. This is the first time he's ever lost someone close to him because of that choice.
@jessbellis9510 Жыл бұрын
Basically it's not Hiccup's fault his dad died - his Dad chose to save him. Hiccup didn't want his dad jumping between them. The only one at fault is Drago. You're not giving Hiccup any slack whatsoever - remember his dad didn't believe him until he saw it for himself? Why do you expect Hiccup to believe his Dad based on an old memory and dire warning? It's not about victory for Hiccup, it's about saving as many lives - dragon and humans as possible. He's always been an optimist and forward thinker - believing in the best of people is how he's come so far to begin with.
@x_rouxi_ian_x4804 Жыл бұрын
@@jessbellis9510 agreed not to mention he shouldnt have to push hiccup away. in the series we already knew this isnt the first time toothless went feral (aka the eels island and the time with the flee) hiccup survived both on his own at the age of 15 - 17. now hes 20 you would thinnk he knows how to dodge his own dragons shot yknow? i got a feeling hes just back away so toothless could shoot the ice and distract himself so he could go ovet to drago to fight. but that plan went away when his father once again, got in the way (just like in the first movie with the nightmare)
@estefanostesfaye3601 Жыл бұрын
I get why hiccup upset you but he didn't tell his dad to do what he did but anyone fault for his death is drago he abused the alpha dragon and plus hiccup said he not his dad it not who he wants to be being a peacekeepers is who Hiccup is his dad basically abused and he said your not my son his mom said he's the strongest of them all and has the heart of Cheif and soul of a dragon that is who Hiccup is and he learns from his mistakes
@tinyreader6759 Жыл бұрын
Since you said you weren't watching the TV show, I just wanna say that Hiccup has in fact convinced several enemies to accept peace with dragons. His belief that he can do the same with Drago makes so much more sense in this context. He's literally done it before with people who were determined to continue trapping and selling and killing dragons. Drago just happened to be an exception and that's what makes this so tragic. Going for the peaceful solution first is part of Hiccup's character and he's used to doing things that others tell him is impossible. The tragedy of this movie is that all the decisions make sense for Hiccup's character and if he made other decisions then he wouldn't be him.

I love that final confrontation between Toothless and the ALpha. I, personally, believe that the Alpha wasn't fighting back against Toothless because it wasn't a bad dragon. It was being controlled by fear and pain. The Alpha's role and duty is to protect the other dragons. It never wanted to fight the others, but it was being forced to. And then, when Toothless stood up to him, it was, most likely, the only other time outside of Drago that it felt fear and pain. So it thought that Toothless was stronger than it.

So you can get all mad about hiccup insisting he can change people’s minds by talking, but like,,, in the series he did get out of situations by talking. It’s a point that hiccup as a character uses his intellect over his fighting prowess, mostly because he physically is weaker than the other character (but rip snotlouts jaw). And he has made allies out of enemies. So from that perspective, his approach in this movie is very in character

Honestly, the series(both) really explained why hiccup thought he could change dragons mind. I mean, he was the best man at the wedding of the guy who wanted nothing more but to kill him, he got alvin to become an ally and he even had Viggo, a guy who declared war against him and drove hiccup a tad nuts trying to stop him to see dragons are good leading to his sacrifice. I would think I could change his mind too.

38:00 I fully understand Hiccup's reaction here. After the loss of a loved one, you almost lose the capacity to think rationally. I literally did this exact same thing to my dogs after my mom died, and they had nothing to do with her death. Though I didn't lash out after that, I fully resented a lot of the people around me, whether it was because their parents were alive or because they appeared to have their lives together, while it felt like mine was in shambles. I quickly realized those feelings were irrational, but I couldn't stop feeling them for a long time. Though Toothless was not at fault for Stoic's death, he did directly cause it. I can't imagine how hard it would be and long it would take for your emotions to reflect your rational thoughts in that situation.

I honestly love the franchise and the movie as a whole. The TV show you mentioned in the first video of these movies, is basically the development of the world, where you learn about more of the dragons that are featured. So a lot of dragons, in this movie were 'discovered' and explored in the TV show if you are interested. If you haven't seen it yet I would recommend the movie 'Rise of the Guardians', which is about Jack Frost.

So when I saw Stoick's death for the first time, I cried till I felt physically weak, even while watching this vid, tears welled up in my eyes. When a show could bring out the emotions you usually supress or any emotion at all, then you know it's a masterpiece, can't wait for the 3rd part.

I love this trilogy, but ngl, i kinda disliked that hiccup became chief. They shouldve made it fall on astrid's responsibility as hiccup's partner - holding down the fort. Now that he's chief, hiccup cant be out there finding out abt dragons and completing his map like how the montage with valka went and it kinda makes astrid more of like an accessory to hiccup despite the very good characterization. + Tbh, i dont think stoic had to die here to force him to become chief. They couldve just severely wounded him or put him in a coma state and their worry for his condition wouldve pushed hiccup to defeating drago, along with everyone in the village, proving that the bond between man and dragon is stronger than an alpha's influence thru fear and mind manipulation. Cuz i think that fight was missing smth, and with the relationship eret developed with stormfly, a dragon, it couldve lead to all the people of the village fighting w their dragons against a single foe lead by astrid or eret himself. Also, they couldve also freed the abused alpha first by getting drago out of the way, freeing the it from drago's manipulation. They couldve even killed him considering they could afford to kill off stoic. "We need to get those two apart" seems like killing drago is the best course of action here. The way the movie did the fight made it seem like a alpha was an enemy when in reality it was also a victim. After the fight, hiccup's resolve to unite dragon and mankind's world would be stronger because he failed to turn drago and even had to kill him, which crushes him and hurts his ideals, convincing his dad to not make him chief and instead give it to the next most preferable candidate, astrid. I mean this movie started off with hiccup gone and about doing his business, and astrid dominating that race in the village. !!!!Spoilers here for those that havent seen the 3rd movie!!!! Then in the next movie, they put toothless' powerup there, not here in the 2nd movie. Because the 3rd movie can be more about unraveling the dragons' secrets , as valka said they both would, as in unraveling their potential powerups and stuff like that, and finding more dragon species and more unique and weird dragon-to-dragon dynamics, not just about their secret area hidden from the rest of the world. So hiccup and valka go on a journey way beyond the village and find the hidden world. With how the 3rd movie's villain is, hiccup realizes that the world really isnt ready for these dragons still, same as how the 3rd movie actually is, which ultimately pushes hiccup to hide away the dragons someplace, which would still be the hidden world, in spite of his great desire for dragons and humans to coexist. He cares for them too much that seeing them mishandled and abused by the likes of grimmel, hunted for sport, hurts him on the inside so much so that he has to decide to hide them all. The village didnt have to be evacuated, all I said about the 3rd movie so far couldve started when grimmel invades hiccup's home. Toothless' powerup could still be because hiccup needs saving, but this time from grimmel and his scorpion dragons, which incites a reaction from grimmel which could be fear or insterest and be a set up for the show theyre making for antagonists that want to eradicate the dragons due to fear or use them basically like drago.
