Don, to answer some of your questions, the reason the cars swerve at the start of the race is to help the tires heat up and gain traction. And the reason they change tires throughout the race is because the tires get worn out quickly due the extreme speed and also heat buildup from friction.

So, being a massive racing fan I can explain 4 things that were asked about in this video: 1: The name of the series The series Cars is based off is, of course, not F1, but instead NASCAR. 2: Why do they do so many laps? NASCAR really loves putting high miles for the races (which is the number next to the race name, example: the Daytona 500 is 500 Miles in distance total), and since the tracks are usually extremely short, it causes there to be an extreme amount of laps. 3: Why do the cars swerve side to side? This is a common thing seen in warm up laps in racing, and swerving is used to warm up tires before going back races. 4: What is a crew chief A crew chief is like the coach for racing, in NASCAR the crew chief makes the main decisions on how hard to race, and the pitting strategy, which makes them the 2nd most important thing to the driver in racing. (Edit:) 5. Isn’t what Chick Hicks does illegal in real racing? Yes, Chick is what we call a dirty driver, and even in, what people see as the wild series, NASCAR, intentional crashes that result in big crashes are extremely illegal, and it’s very frowned upon to crash a championship contender, like Chick did with the King.

5:08 Cars do that to warm up the tires before racing; it helps with traction The reason Doc Hudson wanted to get rid of Lightning McQueen, is because of Doc’s backstory; “After the Hudson Hornet crashed out in 1954, he was kicked out of racing then he had a fresh start to becoming a Doctor of Radiator Springs after fixing a broken down car, then when he saw Lightning McQueen in 2006, it flashed him back into Racing when he got kicked out, so he was trying to get rid of him. Some information about the races: - It is called 'NASCAR', not F1. NASCAR is an American race series that (almost) only race on oval tracks (like the ones you see in the film) - "Why are you swerving on the track?" You are only allowed to do that under a 'yellow flag' or 'safety car'. It is used to warm up the tires. Warmer tires = More grip However, race tires wear off quickly, so you need to change tires in Pitstops

This is NASCAR, which originated with the bootleggers back during Prohibition. Most every secondary character in this movie is voiced by a prominent racing figure, the character's name a play on their real name: Darrell Waltrip, Bob Costas, Kyle "King" Petty, Jeff Gordon, the list goes on and on. And they're weaving because the rubber in the tires is softer (and provides better traction) when it's hot, but it also has a tendency to wear away faster and break loose from the tires. In several scenes during the race, you can see these bits and pieces (called "marbles" because they act almost like literal marbles when they're loose) kick up.

McQueen didn't fix the town's lights. The townsfolk were so impressed with his work on the road that they began sprucing up their shops, according to the audiobook. The traffic light was blinking yellow because there wasn't much traffic on the road but activated because of the tractors. The rocks on the track are most likely "marbles" - peelings from the cars' tyres.

Small towns without purpose get bypassed, factory workers are replaced with machines, paper companies become obsolete as more people go paperless. Sad, but it's how it goes. I don't see hanging onto a dying business in an empty town as any different from starting a horse grooming/farrier business in a major metropolitan area. In Zootopia, the US, Canada, and France I believe have a Moose, China had a Panda, Japan had a Tanuki, Australia had a Koala, and Brazil had a Jaguar as the second New Anchor with the Snow Leopard. The voice actor for Harv in this movie was also changed in this one from the US and UK. Inside Out also had two (three offered) regional changes in it, one with Riley eating in a high chair, Japan viewers saw green peppers instead of broccoli, we see a game of football (soccer for US) instead of the normal hockey (this was only offered to some countries as some stuck with hockey), the third happened when Bing Bong reads a sign to Joy and Sadness that spelled Danger saying it was a shortcut, they not only translated it but reanimated Bing Bong to point to the letters from right to left to accommodate some languages instead of left to right.

Dreamworks is a rival company to Disney but Jeffery Katzenberg used to be the head of Disney Animation Studios. He left Disney after CEO Michael Eisner refused him the position of COO after Frank Wells' death in 1994, as he thought Katzenberg was being arrogant and somewhat power hungry. In retaliation he founded Dreamworks with Steven Spielberg and David Giffin and managed to beat both Disney and Pixar with Shrek (beating them for the academy award of 2002 for Best Animated Picture).

Don, please do some research on racing. This movie is based on Nascar not F1. Tires are like shoes, compare it walking on grass to concrete. McQueen barely escaped Frank because he's on bumpy dirt and not smooth pavement. What doc did on the track is called drifting, turn right to go left is how you drift. The rocks on the track is called marbles. They are rubber balls from the tires of the race car wearing down which is why they have to change tires. A lap around most tracks is equal to a mile so after so many laps you have to change tires or they're going to blow.

So, I watch a lot of nascar have for years. And allow me to shed some light on this movie (even if you don’t see this) firstly; NASCAR does have a cup series it’s a trophy cup not called piston just cup. Secondly; crew chiefs are pretty vital for the race. They make decisions on and off the track and are over the pit crew but the driver makes his own decisions out in the field. And they are loyal to the team so for them to be fired has to be a good reason. Like coaches in nfl or any other sport. Thirdly; tires so get worn and torn so that can create debris on the road and the hotter they get the worst the tire gets. So they change them to newer fresh tires. When mater was in the field outrunning McQueen it’s because mater has off-road tires not on road like McQueen stuck with slick racing tires. It’s true they make new generation cars every few years but I doubt the cars have feelings in our world😂

They have to change tires, because they wear down due to the amount of speed they reach, for hundreds of laps in a row. A crew chief is someone who talks to the driver on the radio to tell them about what’s happening on the track, where the drivers can’t see. The teams in nascar can be multiple drivers, and the pit crew.

The little cars that the bugs are get referred to as buggies, slug bugs, or bugs, so that's also why they became the bugs of the movie

Route 66 was a real highway in the US, it was bypassed mainly by I-40(Interstate 40) which goes from North Carolina to California(Wilmington to LA), so yeh the story is largely true. Like places like Amboy, California, one of the most infamous places back then now has 0 population, and back in 2010 was reported to have 4, it used to be a bustling town though with a lot of travellers when Route 66 was still active.

Fun fact: the Director of this movie has confirmed that there were in fact humans in the Cars universe. But when cars became self driving and conscious.. the just cast the humans aside due to us being "dead weight". That explains all of the structures. edit: And the fact cars had doors and rearview mirrors.

5:44 they swerve to warm up their tires so that they stick better, and new tires are needed because at those speeds and angles for so long they wear out quickly

To sum up why you change tires during a pit stop, while racing tires may not have traditional treads, changing tires during a pit stop is essential for maintaining performance, managing heat, adapting to track conditions, addressing damage, and executing race strategy effectively.

The traffic light was always working fine. In smaller towns when there is not enough traffic to really warrant having "red lights" and "green lights", they might change it to just a flashing yellow. I believe that usually just means it turns into a regular 4-way stop, unless there are signs to signal otherwise. Like maybe yield instead of stop, or 2 ways stop and the other 2 yield.

That Ferarri is actually voiced by Micheal Schumacher. He’s a retired F1 driver.

They swerve to warm up new tires and they change tires because over time the rubber breaks down and it actually creates a groove that’s smoother than the rest of the track, the “rocks on the track” are bits of tire
