This is the Dungeons and Dragons 5e Warlock class guide. The Warlock is a very special spellcasting class that's also very versatile.
Their uniqueness however, should not be a deterrent for players wanting to play the class because it is really not as complicated as it seems.
This class is also a popular one for power gamers to multiclass into, but try to work the patron into your character's backstory to make a more compelling character.

Yes, i realize now that Dead Eyes, my Bugbear Hexblade (XGTE 55-56, VGTM 119) needs more back-story. I don't have a clear contract with my patron -don't even know exactly who or what it is. All i know is that in his journeys of astral projection, he often interacted with Hruggek. Never face to face of course, but always from a distance, studying the bloodthirsty Bugbear patron. However, eventually, for reasons he did not understand, he felt compelled to journey further, and he dared to entered that cave that Hruggek is always guarding. There, engulfed in the abyssal darkness, he encountered something unspeakable, indescribable -but whatever it was it left it's touch on him, half lost to madness. Now he stares with dead eyes into some kind of abyss, but moves with purpose as if possessed with some grim task.

dracocrusher unless stated otherwise, no. However; Under the right circumstances, anything can go; it's up to the campaign at hand and the ruleset you use. Personally, I don't like wish in my campaigns unless I explicitly approve it, and my player confirms what they want to do with it prior to the session. It's largely up to the DM. But in regards to the standard rules, no. It's just not in the Warlock's spellbook.

Actually hexblade in Xanthar's guide to everything could be more flavorful and awesome. I mean what if you made a pact with the Raven Queen or something in order to become the worlds greatest assassin selling your soul in the process? Or offering to give an entity the souls of the people you kill in exchange for power and extending your own life? I mean having a warlock that takes less risk by bargaining with someone else's soul once he kills them could make for a pretty sinister character.

The master thrower machine gun build from 3.5 roleplayed as a guy who was genuinely sent back in time with a machine gun was really funny. The con artist cleric worshiping a fake god who was actually a Sorcerer that used the cleric spell list. The gnome paladin that could only move 10 ft in his plate mail but charge attacked everything. The wizard who pretended to be a fighter by casting long lasting buffs at the beginning of the day because he thought he was still in the witch hunts. Personal Favorite was the Goblin Barbarian from a one shot at lvl 15 or so who just decided he was a super hero because he could fly, carry 1000 lbs, and barely felt pain.

Why not take it further? Your Familiar could be a voluptuous little Sprite or another cute monster girl version of another monster like a Fairy or something (ask your DM). I think the book says it does work both ways. The other creature just can't initiate the conversation. The telepathic link even always you to speak to creatures that don't speak the same languages you do.

In case you want a loooot of out of combat utility The tome pact and the book of ancient secrets invocation are the best ever Because other ritual casters Even the wizard Are only ever allowed ritual spells in their class spell list For warlocks with tome and the invocation The invocation allows you to copy permanently Any ritual spell available fron any class You can cast then as rituals aka not spending a spell slot By taking 10 ingame minutes longer to cast them at their lowest level The tome itself includes 3 cantrips from any class spell list too So go crazy on what cantrip you want It takes some spell reading and brainstorming on ideas for the ritual spell but it is super worth it

thanks to my nerdy dm friend who introduced me to dnd in the first place i now know a legit way how you can put the whole magical girl theme on warlocks the armor of shadows invocation it doesnt say any clear no nos on what the mage armor looks like but one can add flavor to it by making a custom, ahem, magical girl outfit that follows the same effects as the mage armor spell then to really build a combat focused warlock, blade boon and a bunch of other invocations would work extremely well like improved pact weapon, thirsting blade, other worldly leap, maybe trickster's escape,shroud of shadows then the essential devil's sight oh and ofc hexblade patron it is up to you to make your own hexblade patron in theme to magical girls you can even make it magical devil girls(thanks to shichimiya satone aka sophia chan the magical devil girl from chuunibyou) even though devils and magical girls are most of the time sworn enemies(as stated in machikado mazoku) feel free to add extra martial class multiclassing too to truly add combat capability to the magical girl themed hexblade warlock for a more support focused role i would suggest celestial patron, then add in the chain boon, the gift of the ever living ones invocation, rest of invocations are up to you then multiclass to bard for more spells to sling especially support spells
