While I was explaining the combat rules to my players, one of them tended to get very creative. One time, we were investigating this mansion, and a cultist attacked him in the gym with a knife. His character didn't carry a weapon (due to the fact he was just a librarian) and had to resort to using a dumbbell near him. He found it satisfying to cave in his attacker's skull with just some random object.

Call of Cthulhu was released 1928 and a steamship was one of the biggest baddest machines humans had invented when the story was written. yes, mythos ghouls have dog-like heads, and are not undead
@nostromo97434 жыл бұрын
@Naren Gurrier-Jones Well, Mythos ghouls are not really open to interpretation, they are their own species, they are not undead and they are not created, they are hairless cannibalistic humanoids with canine heads, often feeding on human carcasses or fighting moonbeasts with spears on the dreamlands.
@nostromo97434 жыл бұрын
@Naren Gurrier-Jones Theres a bunch of boardgames and other stuff that illustrate ghouls as shambling undead but not because they are a different type of ghouls, but because they are named "ghouls" and that misleads people into thinking they are the classic undead ghoul of every other setting. In reality Mythos ghouls are completely different creatures, you may actually summon one with magic, but cant create them. They can be found in the dramlands, other planets and on earth, they first appeared in the short story "Pickman's Model". Undead on the other side can be found in a lot of different shapes and sizes from the basic zombie to the more rare and complex undead, like the Spawn of Gla'aki or the Peruvian Kharisiri, but neither are remotely related to Mythos Ghouls. Theres more info about them online or on the Monster section of the Keepers Rulebook.

Hm i just thought of a intresting characters to use in this module. 1 a half human, half eldritch entity, starts at zero sanity, due to his "nature" he can easily use spells and can shift parts of his body into madness inducing (and deadly) limbs and loosing sanity helps him, However, he gains sanity when away from eldritch entitys and becomes more unstable the more sanity he gains, causing him to loose control of his eldritch side of himself which will negatively affect his allies. The longer he is away from said entitys, the harder it will be for him to lose his sanity and become stable again 2 A individual with a large (perhaps otherworldy) amount of luck, can choose to double his chances of success on any role, but will cause the penilty to double if he fails the role as well as deal sanity damage to him in the process, carries a roulet revolver which has a one out of six to fire a extreamly powerfull shot...and a 5/6th chance to do absolutly nothing, which was unfortunate for the guns previous owner...he had no idea blood could even stain half of the stuff in that room..oh well free firearms! That all i thought of for now what do you think of them? I allways apreciate criticism..if its constructive Also great video.

I'm curious if it would be feasible to play Call of Cthulhu combat (or opposed rolls in general) using the Gumshoe / Delta Green "Blackjack" system: In opposed rolls, the highest roll without going over the skill number wins. Effectively, it has the same percentages of success or failure, and I don't think it changes anything as far as odds, but I like it better because it reflects the idea that when you have a higher skill in something, you are more capable at that thing. So, for instance, if I have a 30 in Brawl, and some Cultist has a 40, that cultist has a whole range of 31 - 40 which I just can't even hit.
