Back in Vancouver canada in the late 90's, I bought a rare hatchback 6 speed Civic VX. Didn't know the importance of it because every 3 weeks I would get notes on the windshield to sell the car. And it had MILES, not Km's like in Canada. I "knew" then after I broke the front axle and left it on a side street for recovery. 5 days later when I returned, there were NOTES on the windshield naming prices they would buy it. I said "who buys cars with a broken axle with above market price? Are they insane?" I had no repair money back then as the insurance co said it was my fault so I sold it double to one guy who had the highest bid. He said he didnt care about the axle, he wanted the engine and the transmission.

@jinxtacy Жыл бұрын
@@Felrock12 They actually rode well if you weren't stupid and modified them with garbage, but we were poor. The suspension was great and by comparison, all modern cars are fast. I think part of the charm was the character of the motor and the induction noises, the crossover, the potential, and the aftermarket. I remember always wondering why Honda refused to compete with everyone else with turbos and looking back I get it way more now. Looking back at the history of a motorcycle manufacturers doing everything by themselves and the cars made so much sense in their evolution especially outside of America. Where there were the Cosworths and Yamahas lending their expertise in cylinder head design Honda was doing the same on their own. Cable clutch aside, I'd probably toss the EF in as the trinity. Civic lost me in 06+. I think it was just lacking much character with the non-ergonomic mouse shape. What I dislike about them also was that they felt larger while having less space inside somehow. The competition also plays a huge role and if you compare the experience of a Civic in the 90s to a Cavalier or a Neon of the same time period the difference was staggering. I think the 90s Sentra SE-R actually stood up pretty well and the SR20 was a nice torquey experience. MKIII VR6 maybe? I'm still interested in picking one up after I finish the current build.
@deancoronado4898 Жыл бұрын

@jinxtacy Жыл бұрын
@@deancoronado4898 I think a lot of 90s interiors being plain is something I kind of like about them. They seem to hold up better if the plastics don't get too brittle or dashes crack. I think Honda was a bit better with their plastic choices, Toyota was good, and Mazda was very poor in the plastics they used. Then again I think it almost got worse in the 2000s. Personally I dislike "soft touch" quality that journalist rave about after sitting in more than enough aged BMWs and VWs to just see what a mess they turn into in under 100k. Just my preference though. I don't remember too much about an LSD. I just remember it being a torquey experience that seemed to fair well against the Hondas of the day with less HP. Parts are essentially free (for real, parts for my rc car cost more) Had 230k plus on it when I got it. ended up parting er out (every body panel was f'd up, no way I was gonna try to restore and no one would offer more than 500 to buy) and made about 1500. I was also able to buy a whole set of nice snow tires for $150 bucks on rims. Wow guys, thanks for getting this basically right. Having owned 50+ 4/5/6 gen civics, as much as I love the EG the EK(but get a HB) is just a better and unfortunately heavier car. New FK8 owners have a hard time admitting the old cars are better. Next you can go down the rabbit hole of modded 5/6 gen civics, B swaps, K swaps, AWD, turbo... I have owned a 1980, an '88, a '91 and a '98 Civic. The first two were sticks and crazy fun to drive. The thing I love the most about Honda is the evolution of their engineering. As you line up these cars side by side by generation and look under the hood, you can see a steady progression over the years as they improved their design. You don't see that in other cars. You may not find any resemblance from one generation to the next because they scap the old design and keep starting over. Honda understands how to keep what works and keep building on that till you have a beautifully refined machine.

In 2006, the 8th gen, the coupe was never available in Japan so it's actually kind of a gem in that way. It has no traction control and was one of the coolest cars available anywhere near that price, also it only came in a coupe that year, and it's the first Si with an LSD, (an upgrade over the 07 RSX type S)

These aren’t true Honda men, just look how they shit talked the 8th gen or even some of the older models. The 8th gen is the last true vtec of its kind. No appreciation what so ever. They don’t know shit

@@trentonminter3131 in 2006 they only released the Coupe and it didn't have traction control standard, when the sedan came out in 2007 model year, it got traction control so it could be that.

So awesome that my second gen was featured in a Donut video! It’s my daily driver now :)

I drove an old '77 Honda Civic in my early college days in the 90s & it was so much fun! Yeah, you had to turn on the heat in the summer when you went up a long hill to keep it from overheating & yeah, the top gear of the four-speed manual sounded like a wound up sewing machine on the interstate, but I haven't had a car since with so much personality. :)

They need to bring back the Two Door, especially for the Si and TypeR

Love it. I had a 91 CIVIC back in college with a 4-speed manual, this brought back plenty of memories. Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed mine so much as a youngster I decided to hold on to it...23 years and counting.
