Everyone will call me a liar, but the Model 3 was more fun to drive than the Porsche. Driving them back to back was eye-opening. I know the Porsche is faster every way you measure it, but the model 3 felt faster. The PDK is awesome, but the EV's constant power is better. The Model 3 was like driving a big go-kart, it was really easy to feel what the car is doing and really easy to control it. The single pedal driving makes it really easy to balance the car in corners. My prediction is that the Boxter EV will be the best sports car ever.

an interesting perspective I’ve realized this year driving multiple cars on the same track back to back is that the driver may actually be the limiting factor in regards to lap times in the sense that a person has a certain confidence level or sense of speed they wont go past, and that leads to very similar lap times between cars whereas the cars might be able to go around the track faster than the driver thinks it can. It’s extremely hard to extract 100% potential out of a car without having a substantial amount of time behind the wheel.
@JerkFrags Жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone is doubting that the driver was the limiting factor for the lap times in this video. That being said, I would bet that Jeremiah got faster laps than most of us could (he does have some good experience - Skip Barber). Rather than looking at athe driver as a limiting factor, look at the driver as a controlled factor when it comes to testing. For example, if you put Verstappen in either of those cars, and Jeremiah in the other, Verstappen will have the faster lap. The results of the test infers that if you put most experienced drivers in both cars, the GT3 RS will have a slightly faster lap time....but I want to see more testing between these two cars!

I don't find anything wrong with EVs but I recognize they are not for everyone so I don't think they should be forced on everyone by the government. People should have a choice. I looked into buying one last year but they are not in my price range. I absolutely don't find EVs appealing for racing because of the limited customization that's available. Combustion engines come in all different sizes with nearly an infinite number of aspects that can be changed to alter performance for different types of racing. Camshaft profiles, changes to spark timing, turbochargers, exhaust header tube length, gear ratios, etc are aspects that let each car become unique. EV don't have most of that. Aerodynamics and suspension tuning looks to be about it. The heart of the whole thing is stock. While they are quicker and faster, than combustion engine vehicles, I'm a gear head and I don't feel a connection to the EVs for racing because they are off the shelf with no real customization and no sound. I've been to NHRA Drag races, NASCAR races, Formula 1 races, etc and I could not imagine there being no sound! It's like EVs have no soul.

I'm actually so excited to see that battery radiator mod on the Tesla Model 3. It was the first thing I thought of when it came to building performance mods for EVs beyond the obvious stuff like weight reduction, and I'm glad to know my thoughts were right! I'd love to see what happens when you do this to like.. a Plaid
@CRneu Жыл бұрын
the issue is you can't cool battery packs fast enough. There's always a lag between heat generation and the cooling system being able to compensate. You have to move that heat from the battery packs to the radiation system and back. Batteries, under full load, can produce way more heat than most systems can mitigate. EVs are good at quick bursts of performance but they still lack the ability to maintain that performance. It's getting better but they aren't there yet.
@CrossWindsPat Жыл бұрын
@@CRneu Liquid cooling has entered the room
@m_ism Жыл бұрын
@CRneu absolutely, even liquid cooling only goes so far. My thought initially was a nitrous or nitrous-adjacent system that, rather than blowing super dense air into the fuel system to increase combustion, was to just flush super compressed (and subsequently much colder) liquid nitrogen over the batteries in an attempt to flash-cool them. It'd require a lot of testing and I have no idea if that would be *nearly* enough cooling potential, but being able to port nos into EVs just for a different use case sounded so cool. Especially for show builds where EVs are already bagging their cars and putting the compressor tanks in the frunk. Just do that but with nos

Worth mentioning that everyone who does race car stuff knows, you as a driver get faster with each lap. Part of that is fuel weight loss, part of that is level of comfort, but the Tesla its the opposite peak power is the very first lap. But I have to say, that's pretty sick and it makes me want a Tesla tbh. To have a car that keeps up with a gt3 rs around a track, that probably costs half after those mods, and way less before the mods. Very cool

While the Model 3 will overheat on a road course with prolonged acceleration and deceleration at the drag strip you actually have to heat the battery for max performance. At drag strips you don’t accelerate long enough to heat the battery. The Track Mode actually slows the car down tremendously because it cools the battery. My model 3 does the 1/4 mile in 11.17 @ 120.0 mph but only when I use preconditioning to heat the battery to over 130 degrees F.
@ChrisLeiter Жыл бұрын
I was thinking about this the other day - tempted to take my 3 performance to the nearby track. Would you recommend setting nav to the Supercharger so it will precondition the battery before I make a run?
@LearningFast Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisLeiter which Track? Dragstrip or road course? For the dragstrip just navigate to a supercharger about 15 minutes before your run. I usually start preconditioning when I get into the line. For the road course you should put it in track mode about 10 minutes before your run and then leave it in track mode for each run. That will cool the battery and motors for sustained accelerations and braking.
