Our $500 Civic handles like linguine, so we decided to give it a little love in the form of coilovers, strut tower bars, rear brace, and rear sway bar.
Donut = We like cars, and we like making videos about cars. Hopefully our videos make you like cars too.

So happy you guys are finally building a Honda! As a B-Swapped EK owner suspension was one of my first big upgrades and I was in a very similar boat with worn out parts. I would love to see the braking system gone through in a future episode. Mine at 250k miles had black fluid from disintegrating master cylinder/caliper seals. Brakes were first upgrade/maintenance item. Rear disc swap, new calipers, rotors, pads, brake lines, master cylinder, fluid. Made a huge difference in braking feel and confidence. Also would love to see some old school b-swap action.

Literally I'm in Washington state and the most clapped out jank civics will sell for 3k minimum if they run. I've been trying to find a crx to replace my dying 93 accord and unless it's super clapped out I'm looking at 5000 for a 200k mile one 😭 which is so hard to justify for a 30 plus year old economy car. A lot of places in the US don't have any/much snow at all. If there's not, for the most part no rust. Southern states really have it easy with that. Up north car will eventually rust to pieces. Couple notes for the kids at home: Do not use an impact wrench to tighten bolts to final torque, is almost no cases where its a good idea and you should zip it on lightly and finish by hand... Also when replacing most suspension bushes its a good idea to only lightly assemble them and then lower the car so weight it on suspension bringing it to ride height before tightening. They're using mostly spherical bushings that are self aligning but other types you can have issues with binding where if tightened when fully extended will be over stressing the bush at full compression and it will fail prematurely and not preform as it was designed..... Most good alignment shops will have a 4 post hoist to make tightening at ride height easy ✌ do most at home and trailer it in and have the lads put the final touch on with the alignment.....
@5PYZ3R
@5PYZ3R Жыл бұрын
It should already be on jackstands if you don't have a lift, so use your jack to raise a tire until it barely lifts off the stand. That's your ride height / preload and you can tighten that corner.
@ColoradoStreaming
@ColoradoStreaming Жыл бұрын
I learned long ago that impact wrenches are only for taking bolts off. Its always worth the extra few min to not worry about cross threading something trying to zip a bolt on.
@zigmeisterful
@zigmeisterful Жыл бұрын
As long as you're careful and paying attention to what you're doing, using an impact to snug your bolts up isn't that big of a deal. Don't break out your 1000lb impact to do it either. I have a nice little dewalt 120lb battery powered impact that will make sure I don't go overboard with snugging things up.

The EG is such an incredible platform! I've been a diehard Mopar guy forever (my first car was a 72 Challenger that I still have), but when it came time to buy my first "practical" car, I went with a 92 hatch, because I wanted a car that got over 40 mpg, super reliable, easy to wrench on and large aftermarket support. Over the course of 6 years I put over 200k miles on mine and absolutely loved it! And whenever parts wore out and needed replacing, I upgraded to high performance parts, because in comparison to what I was used to, they were really cheap. And I have to say after I went through and upgraded the brakes, suspension and a bit of performance upgrades it was a great little go kart.

My father is from antigo Wisconsin. A man right down the street from his home founded Polaris. He basically invented snowmobiles. Because of this, my grandfather was a pioneer of snowmobile racing. The man who founded the company was apparently a salt of the earth type of guy. After a while, he sold the company and started another company named artic cat. You may have heard of em. Anyway, Polaris rocks and they have NO EQUAL on the trail as far as side by sides are concerned. Cheers to them for continuing to strive for better than was previously available. Also, thanks to the smoking tire for reviewing stuff that is outside of their comfort zone. Another great video matt!

I remember running custom ground control springs with Koni Yellows on my '99 Integra. I had pretty insane spring rates, I think 350lb up front and 450lb in the rear, no sway bars. Thing was a beast, immediate lift throttle oversteer. I remember when I had H&R race spring with no bumpstops, my upper a-arms started hitting the chassis in the wheel well. No fun. I even had aftermarket angles upper a-arms. Good times, always wanted a Civic hatch, that's my favorite color. I would never advise a FWD noob blast down a canyon in an oversteer setup Civic. Literal lift throttle oversteer, most "racers" aren't used to it.

Slow, but fun. It's why I loved my 1.3L Suzuki Swift (2001) so much. No power steering, manual transmission, 155/70r13. It really did feel like a big go-cart, and when the exhaust fell off it sounded great too!

Suspension mods are the best thing you can do on a slow car... my 92 525i has 189hp (or at least it did back when it was new), and in a 3500lb car it's not exactly fast. With coilovers, monoball suspension all around, an aggressive alignment, and sticky tires, it's a total blast to drive in the canyons.

I like how the rear LCAs and subframe brace are the same color as Nolan’s Jacket 😂 also you guys should swap out the trailing arm bushings. Makes a MASSIVE difference in handling especially as you’ve done everything else, I’m sure that’s plans for the future tho. Also maybe look into a front lower H brace and a front sway bar! Megan also has these. Love this boys keep on keepin on! 💪🏼💪🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

If you want a new drive experience, what you need is a Reliant Robin, if driven correctly can feel like a sports car through windy roads and I drive mine like I stole it round these rural Dorset lanes and just leave 4 wheel cars in my dust, should ask Aging Wheels if you could sort his one out for a bit o' speed, Mini gas dampers on the back, Gaz front shock, PU bushings, Peugeot GTi anti roll bars on back axle, Triumph Dolomite Sprint brake cylinders, 4 branch manifold, ported inlet, Ford Weber 134ICH carb conversion... 0-60 under 10 secs and about 100mph top end... scary fun :D

I'm not a huge fan of this car. But watching you do a moderate mid range rebuild on an older car to bring life back to it. Really isinspiring to watch. Makes me wanna rebuild the grandprix to add more horseies to it after

These Civics were so fun to work on. You have so many ways to go. Engine swap into turbo upgrades. Rims + Body Kit + wrap. Interior rip out projects only to add back what you need to drive around with 2 people in the car 😂. Love it! Makes me miss my 99 Ex Civic. 😢❤

I absolutely love this video. Right now I also have a stock EH civic CX and I love seeing some mods done to one in a high quality video. IDK if you guys are planning to swap the engine but if you are, consider a B20VTEC build.

I only discovered the channel a few days ago and it's been a while absolute joy watching the content. Idea for future vid series is an LowST vs HighST series. I'm from South Africa and the Fiesta and Focus ST are really popular cars here.

I have used this video like 4 times now to remember what i needed to do, rebuilding my ek hatch. I super appreciate how much of the actual tear down you guys did show. I do wonder why you didnt swap the trailing arm for a disc brake upgrade or replace the compliance arms?

Can we talk about Zach's hair for a minute?! Holy shit!! That mane is going to get a show of its own pretty soon!! It's going to get endorsments, sponsorship deals etc!! The longer it gets the more it dominates the shows. Zach is the best host Donut has and pretty soon theyre going to lose him to modeling agencies and hair care product companies lol.

Man, I'm so jealous of you guys in Cali. 400,000 miles and hardly any rust and control arm and exhaust bolts come out like they're brand new! It's a battle getting those bolts out on anything with 100,000 miles here 😂

When I was 17 I owned one of these. I put an obnoxious sound system in it probably worth what I bought the car for. I installed a copious amount of bright blue LED strips throughout the interior to match what was left of the blue paint on the exterior. I had 3 near misses in it: 1. I was driving down a dirt road with the car full of people. I wanted to show off and have some fun so I started whipping the tail out around some corners. I went too far, then over-corrected and skidded straight toward a 3 metre drop. The car stopped with one of the front wheels fully off the drop. Someone in a van towed us out. 2. I was driving home at 3am down a windy hill. One of my rear tires was very flat, and I knew that. But I wanted to see a girl, so the reward seemed to outweigh the risks. I was turning a corner and must have rolled the tire. The back of the car started to slide toward the slope next to the road but somehow the car straightened out. Got my tire repaired soon after that! 3. I was racing down the highway in my hometown, mostly down hill, so I'd been using the brakes fairly heavily. Got to a small roundabout where I needed to give way to a car coming across it. My brakes failed due to heat and the pedal went straight to the floor. That was the scariest thing I've experienced in a car. Wow, I was young and dumb. I do miss that car though.

My last Honda was a 1990 Integra GS. That car was a blast. I never got more than about 20,000 on a set of tires, it could just eat them up. It could almost make 140 mph, (I got to 138 flat out on highway 99 heading into Nevada) and it would accelerate like nobody's business. I called it "clear the console mode", everything in the center console would end up in the back seat (like instantly!). I get the attraction. Wait till you put some ponys in it.
