A few additions: 1) Always insist that the car engine is cold when you arrive (a warm engine can hide any start-up issues) 2) Drive fast in a straight line and break super hard with your hands barely touching the wheel to determine if the car veers under hard breaking 3) If you are buying a car that delivers power to the front wheels, put the steering wheel into full-lock and drive in a circle (any clunking will indicate a likely fault CV joint) 4) If buying a performance car, feel and inspect the inside of the wheel wells for bits of rubber, to determine if they have been doing burnouts 5) Check the manufacturing date that is printed on all tires, as they may need replacing, even if they have full tread 6) Ask the seller if they are aware of any potential issues with the vehicle... sometimes they will tell you

what kills me on listings are folks who say "no tire kickers" when what they actually mean is dont look too closely at the car and don't ask me questions. Guess they don't want my money.
@AAllinsonNN4 жыл бұрын
Nawh m8 - a tire kicker is someone that just shows up, kicks the tires, asks about it, then leaves. They’re called a tire kicker because they’re not showing up to find out about the car and buy it; they’re just curious about the car and want to check it out, without a true intention of buying. Saying “no tire kickers” is a fair statement to deter people that aren’t going to show up with cash in hand to make an offer if they would like to purchase the vehicle after a thorough inspection. This is a great guide for states with less incliment weather, espically on the rust and shift front cause here in mn if a car is older than two years, and wasnt owned by a car nut, loads of rust is inevitable, and if your buying a car in winter in 10 degree weather, cold trans fluid has a big effect on shifting smoothness.
@CombatGod4 жыл бұрын
A few additional things to consider. I've bought used cars in 3 different countries. I'm hesitant on Miatas at that age but your best bet for reliability is to make sure you get a manual transmission Honda or Toyota. Those will give you in general the best access to cheap parts and make sure you don't need as many cheap parts. Also, some additional things to check for, the edges of the door and inside trimming of the door for different color paint or pain dripping. Even if they say it's never been in an accident it doesn't make it true. There's nothing worse than a car that was in a wreck that somebody fixed themselves.

I just bought a 97 Honda prelude (type s??? Supposedly) it only cost $500 cause the guy thought it needed a transmission but it was just the shifter cable popped loose. The motor runs ok but it’s really oily. But I think it’s a great project cause the inside and the exterior is in great shape and sealed up really well

AutoTempest Set range 100 mile radius from your zip code and price range from 0 to 3,500 Make sure you have dealers AND private sales checked (I think that's an option). I also believe you can break it down by title type, transmission, and mileage.

I bought my Miata on Facebook for a good price great interior and low-ish miles 👍 I’ve had the car for 9 months or so and it’s been great. I looked for a LOOONG time though. Don’t settle for something trashy just keep looking till the right one comes along 🤙

Bought my first ever car a couple of weeks ago. Nothing fancy, nothing terrible, a nice 2013 Ford Fusion. It *is* a salvage title tho. It got into a bad wreck and the owner decided to fix it up instead of junk it. He then proceeded to pass it around his family as the "teenager car" that all the kids drove. The teenage boy was apparently handy with his hands and had money to spare so he apparently fixed it up even more, put a speaker system in the trunk and whatnot. The car runs great, just heard back from the mechanic and the only things wrong with it are the windshield wipers dont work and it needs a new axel boot cuz one of em is leaking oil. That and the teenage girl ruined the tint but im fixing that myself

A great alternative that I can't believe y'all haven't mentioned yet is a fox body Mustang. They're everywhere, Ford made a gillion of them, and the aftermarket for them is endless. It's a great car that's easy to work on, easy to maintain, and easy to find parts for.

Only issue I ran into was he didn’t want it all being done at his building. This was because of condo rules. I suggested taking it to a shop and look at it there. I always recommend getting under while on a hoist. Trying to inspect a car on a jack can cause you to miss some important parts. May not work for everyone but paying a shop $20 to get under a car saved me getting a car that would have cost me thousands In repairs or having to scrap the car.
@kayancel27694 жыл бұрын
Most people will let you, just be respectful with the car, remember, is not yours (yet), also, if they got angry or upset while you're checking it move away from that vehicle, they're hiding something, remember not to get emotional, there's more vehicles on the road
