Good tip Donnie. I had 1967 Cub Cadet tractor that I finally traded in on 2016 model Cub. The safety features are a good thing if the wife and kids are mowing, but I hate them. That safety switch under the seat was most troubling. When I would mow the ditch bank, the engine would stop because not enough of my weight was pressing down on the seat. Also, when hauling brush and leaves to a dump site just down the road, I had to get off the seat to make sure no cars were coming behind me, and the engine would stop. I did circumvent that switch. I know people do dumb and unsafe things with mowers and get seriously injured. Myself, I like the option of using the safety, or not using it. Some lawn tractors even shut the blades off when going in reverse. On the Cub a button has to be held in for a few seconds, then you can mow in reverse. I most definitely would circumvent that switch if it did not have that option. Geez...come on, this is ridiculous!
@circuitbreaker90013 жыл бұрын
It is amazing how many people don't read the manual that comes with the machine. When I bought my newest Kubota the mechanic was showing me how to remove the backhoe and loader said the PTO will not run when I am not in the seat. I said how do I run my chipper. He said some put a cement block on the seat. I came home and read the manual. On a page with one sentence it stated . To keep the PTO on you lock the parking brake on. I went back to the dealer and showed him this. It has a micro switch on the brake lock that bypasses the safety shut off. I also wired a light on that switch so I don't move the tractor with the brake on. That video will help the non readers. Good job I know this is a bit different than keeping the tractor running but is the same

I bought a Cub Cadet XT1 46" about 3 years ago now. Had to replace the starter in the 2nd year. It was super-easy to replace...but still...less than 2 years? I've seen posts online by others that had the starter go bad as well. Now I start the tractor once when I cut the lawn, never turning it off until it's back in the garage. (It's a long way to push the tractor from the furthest point in the backyard.)

So I finally got to try it out. WOW!!! and then after reading other comments about "reading the owners manual" Well I can tell, I must have read it multiple times over the years for other things, so this time I sat down and read it from front to back and lo and behold, I did find out where they state it. It was "hidden" under the section for "how to check to make sure the safety switches are functioning correctly". I really think they really don't want you getting off the tractor with it running :-) Thanks again for the information and a very informative channel. You and Steve are my favorite channels!

I had a Honda mower that had been modified (butchered) to keep it running when you step off. I stepped off one time, my foot slipped on wet grass and went under the cutting deck. My big toe was sliced like a loaf of bread so there was nothing left, the bones in the next toe were smashed beyond repair and the third toe was broken at right angles. At the same time there was a very deep cut in my heel which required 48 stitches. There is a safety reason why mowers stop when you get off them. Don't mess about with it.

I'm still waiting to get steering parts for the old Lt craftsmen and a new regulator rectifier for the other Lt craftsmen Any time I step off mine I shut the blades off because theirs no safety buttons on it that cuts the engine off so that's what I do Then I'm needing a new wide pulley for the John deere L110 deck i checked at the store that online said they sell i couldn't find them so have to get one of those from off here and need to get more extra gasoline because I'm always working on riding mowers or for friends

In other words... people don't read manuals. :) I've left this "feature" intact as it's not that big of a deal to set the brake and disengage the blades (only mildly annoying but does prematurely wear out blade brakes), but had to axe the button that allows backing up with the blades engaged - that was too much. (before anyone comments about how "dangerous" this is - I'll risk it. lol) However, I do get that as a business, you can't/won't condone bypassing any type of safety device.

Don't bypass any safety switches, especially if you have to ask someone else to do it or reference how to do it. There is only one switch that might be ok, but again if you need to look up a how-to, then you probably shouldn't be playing with any safety switches. And if an incident happens with anything bypassed, forget about getting any type of settlement from the manufacturer.
