This is only ONE example of why the Doobies were much greater before Tom Johnston left the band and McDonald joined. Completely different sound and vibe. These are the REAL DOOBIE BROS. Sweet Maxine from Stampede is pretty awesome. Song to See You Through from Vices and Habits album is a gem. Keep up the great reactions. You are becoming my favorite!

There is absolutely nothing the Doobie Brothers couldn't do. They played every style, incorporated almost any instrument know, had their incredible harmonies, laid it all down on Tiran Porters unbelievable bass lines and a two drummer set, sometimes with bongos and congas! And it never sounded crowded. Anyone only listening to their radio hits are missing out on great songs like this. I've loved "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" since 1973. There are so many others too. Respond to "Toulouse Street" for a very different Doobies sound and some more of the New Orleans groove. Hard to believe they're a California band.

This album and Boston’s debut album were the best two albums of all time in my opinion.Third is “ Escape” by Journey. The Doobie Brothers had two great drummers so tight you cannot tell there are two…RIP, Keith Knudsen and Michael Hossack. This song has it all, and the song off this album called “ South City Midnight Lady” is similar and great also.If you listen to this album from start to finish, you will not believe it….Every song a winner.

My favorite early Doobies album is "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits." It includes Black Water which is a must listen. But also good are: Eyes of Silver, Another Park Another Sunday, Daughters of the Sea/Flying Cloud, Spirit, and Tell Me What You Want. Honestly, ANY song you choose will be a winner!

Clearly you are a blues man at heart. This is my favourite Doobies song from my favourite Doobies album. This album is almost 50 years old and sounds as masterly today as it did way back in 1973 when I first heard it. It is Tom Johnston's tribute to BB King's "The Thrill Is Gone." Unreal blues guitar. So tasteful! And such great lyrics. From a time when real rock and blues was played. 🎸🎸🎸💘💘💘😎😎😎

The Doobie Brothers were originally from San Jose CA (where I grew up). That's the location of the unfinished freeway overpass which appears on the album cover. It remained in that unfinished condition for many years -- not sure how long, but maybe 7 or 8 yrs? During that time, someone would anonymously erect a lighted Christmas tree up there every December. In a way, it was kinda sad when the gov't finally got the necessary funding to complete that interchange of I-280, I-680, and US Hwy 101 in south San Jose.

well Dave you got to understand this is when it comes to classic Rock greatest Hits just don't cut the mustard that's why a lot of people say the album cuts are just as good as the hits and The Doobie Brothers are a perfect example that run of albums from two loose Street right on into taking it to the streets.

Definitely time for Blackwater ..... We were truly blessed to have been the first to hear and Experience this music..... That experience is.... getting lost in the music. You have missed the ultimate experience.... had a friend who was a DJ at weddings.... We were at the family cottage up near Algonquin Park (north of Lake Ontario)... Sun is about to go down, the beer is cold, burgers on the barbaque.... He boots up his small mobile set-up with the bullhorn tweeters and the Bogan bass cabinets, and put on The Captain and Me..... Not too loud, maybe 7, .......... Heaven..... I thought I was in heaven. Sometimes you might just be selfish and take the whole album in all at once.... Many of them where expected to be listed to that way.,. Dark Side of the Moon, the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, are the easiest, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Genesis, the albums were set up with a flow, like a good compilation "tape". Crosby Stills Nash and Younge..... Déjà Vu..... When you get the time .... Try it... You'll like it....

You not just liking but loving the same music as I - just blows me away. I wish I still had my drum kit, I bought it from Sam Ash music store for $399 added a Sabian B8 Cymbal pack, used Pearl Single Bass Drum Double kick pedal set up with 20 pairs of 7A sticks. The tag said it was a Jazz Set..... the hardware was so heavy duty it's really why I bought the set. It was compact, Black and Chrome. I gave it to my youngest son, he told me...... Dad ....I wanna do what you do ! I wanna be a Drummer. I said then you should take band in school so you can learn the right way to perfect the craft. When you graduate High School I'll give you my Drum Kit !!! HE did, being a man of my word so did I, I gave him my Drum Kit. I wish'd I'd had his reaction on video !
