Yeah, The Doobies are famed as a rock band but they've got tons of soul and R&B influence. Tom Johnston often reminds me of Ernie Isley, and the intro rhythm guitar riff on "Long Train Running" could easily have been inspired by The Isley Brothers.

IMHO the doobie brothers are what happens when you put a bunch of talented musicians from different cultural and musical backgrounds together. the talent just oozes off of these people. one of the few whose music has not stood the test of time, it sounds as good or better when these guys play live as they ever have. they've lost nothing over the course of time. never had to run around with the entourages and gossip rags to stay relevant. none of them had to be shot, or come out of an egg onstage or make some stupid speeches about the same things we've heard from everyone else ad nauseam and they look like they're just there to sing, play and give the audience their best performance. i'd for sure pay to go see them still.

Absolutely phenominal background vocals! Ususally live performances show vocal flaws but this was spot-on perfect, just like when they recorded this song!
