UPDATE: I've linked all the locations and pinned them onto Google Maps so they can be helpful for your next Hanoi trip! I've starred the ones that were my personal favorites (even though I enjoyed everything), but keep in mind that a lot of places were closed for Tết holiday, so my options were a little more limited. Nonetheless, I can assure you that even the "average" street stall with patrons eating will be better than any noodles you'll get anywhere else in the world. I apologize in advance for all the spelling errors in the video, promise I’ll double triple check next time :) re: to panino/ panini statement, I was testing y'all 😉 Time Stamps! in courtesy of @naumbtothepaine0 Day 1: 0:52: Bún cá (fish noodle soup): "Bún cá cây si" - 5 Ngõ Trung Yên, Hàng Bạc ⭐ 4:05: Bún chả (grilled pork with noodles) + Phở gà (chicken pho): 40 Cầu Gỗ 6:54: Nộm thịt bò khô (beef jerky salad): 57 Đinh Tiên Hoàng 8:58: Chè (sweet soup): "Chè khúc bạch Linh Linh": 12 Đường Thành⭐ 9:37: Bánh mì: "Pate cột đèn" - 116 Cầu Gỗ⭐ 10:54: Bánh tráng cuốn (rice paper rolls): somewhere opposite to the below "Bánh mì Phố" 11:38: Bánh mì + Milo: "Bánh mì Phố" - 57C Đinh Tiên Hoàng 13:33: Bánh cuốn: 35A Nguyễn Hữu Huân ⭐ Day 2: 16:38: Cà phê: "Cộng Coffee" - 27 P. Nhà Thờ 17:29: Bún ốc (snail noodle soup): 1A P. Đinh Liệt 21:30: Gà nướng (grilled chicken): "Gà nướng Oanh Oanh" - 5F Lý Văn Phúc ⭐ Day 3: 26:16: Cháo gà (chicken porridge): 3 Ngõ Huyện ⭐ 27:58: Phở bò (beef pho): "Cơm Phở" - 12 Lý Quốc Sư 29:55: Bún chả: 1 Hàng Mành ⭐ 32:53: Nước dừa (coconut water): Around 35B Hàng Điếu 33:57: Cà phê trứng (egg coffee): "Cà bóp" - 23B Hàng Vải⭐ 35:32: Nem chua rán (fried nem chua): "Nem Chua Rán Thành Xăm" - 38 Hàng Bông 38:29: Bánh xèo (Vietnamese pancake): 79 Hàng Điếu ⭐ 41:16: Chè: 77 Hàng Điếu ⭐ Day 4: 44:17: Bánh mì: "Bánh mì Vân Mít" - 52 Lý Quốc Sư 45:56: Bánh tôm (fried shrimp bánh), bánh gối (pillow bánh, it's shaped like a pillow idk): next to 91 Hàng Điếu ⭐ Google maps pin: maps.app.goo.gl/wFo4mnMz1f8P1i1Q8

If you ever visit Hanoi again, please do so in Autumn when the weather is nicest for noodle slurping. Food selection during Tết is extremely limited and up to 25% more expensive due to inventory shortage. Too bad you haven't got any great phở bò, next time ping me, I'll happy to be your phở guide.

Hell no. It’s a very very lazy video ( not the filming/editing which Im aware are lengthy ). She just roamed Hanoi’s tourist area because most places in the city are closed for Tết and gave very questionable comments about the food, sometimes entirely wrong or uneducated. Hello Tina! Congrats on your trip to Vietnam and Hanoi! I’m honestly more proud than I should be to have you visit my city lol😭 but anyways. I do want to add some extra notes to the foods you featured here: - I wouldn’t describe it as fish pho personally, bún cá feels very much like its own thing. - Regarding the place where you ate both the phở gà and the bún chả, from my experience, restaurants that covers many different types of foods usually can not match with a restaurant who specializes in that food. So the bún chả having the chả (which is the meat) being a little dry is honestly kind of expected😭 - Actually, the papaya salad you ate is actually called nộm, while the “bò khô” is actually beef jerky, and the fish sauce should be called nước mắm, with an “mmm” sound at the beginning of the second word - The Bánh Mỳ Phố is actually a chain of bánh mỳ, and personally, independent vendors will generally always have better quality - I love you so much for covering bánh cuốn!! It’s always seemed very underrated to me as a dush - I actually think you going on Lunar New Year was a disadvantage, because everyone will close their business on New Years (understandably so) so it might have hindered your food experiences a little bit - Riêu would be more closely translated as crab butter in English, and the combination of bún riêu and bún ốc would be bún riêu ốc - Very glad you tried out Grab, it’s just so iconic to Vietnamese transportation - Nem chua rán is such an iconic snack, and it’s actually made by fermenting raw pork until it develops a sour smell, which is the “chua” part Again, thank you so much for visiting our country and city, and producing a beautiful video to accompany it🩷🩷

riêu is actually referring to the sour taste of those dishes honey

Additional corrections, she also mistakenly listed beef as an ingredient in 'Bánh cuốn" when is actually ground pork. Also for "cháo sườn", the meat were pork ribs and pork floss, not chicken.

Really really nice video! I can see the dedication you put in for every shot and the effort to speak and write the vietnamese name of each dish. Thank you so much! It's just that I cant help myself correcting some details: 1:47 The "phở cá" that you mentioned is actually a very different and not a common dish, definitely not the same "bún cá" that you were having, even though "phở" and "bún" are both types of rice noodle, the soups that are paired with them usually have very different and distinctive flavour, hardly interchangeable. The vegetable is probably water crust or some similar sort as I have never seen morning glory go with this dish before. And you are absolutely right about "bún cá" being a good refreshing hangover soup, the youngsters ate it a lot during the Lunar New Year Holiday after all the repetitive heavy traditional meals. 5:06 Here in the North, "chả giò" is usually called "nem rán" (literal translation is fried meat roll) 6:22 I'm not quite sure about the yellow skin indicating that it's aged chicken because normally "phở" is preferably prepared with fresh chicken. And the boiled chicken skin we have here is always that yellow. 6:53 8:02 You got the translation for "nộm thịt bò khô" quite correct but the word for "salad" here is "nộm" while "thịt bò khô" is "dried beef" or "beef jerky" 9:01 "Chè" is actually a broad term for many of different types of sweet pudding soup we have here and even though "chè khúc bạch" is the name of the shop, I believe what you had there was a different type of "chè" as the "khúc bạch" one is flavoured milk jellies that are eaten with thin lychee flavoured syrup and topped with lychee and almond slices. (Personally really love it myself) 10:59 "Bánh tráng cuốn" (without the ending "g") is actually rolled rice paper and it should be "bánh tráng nướng" - fried rice paper that you were showing. 13:24 The higher price for public holidays is a way that businesses try to pay the employees that sacrify their days off to work, quite common here. 14:33 The spatula is actually a single giant thin chopstick. In addition I doubt that the meat must be pork and not beef, never seen it in typical "bánh cuốn" to be honest. The cinnamon note is obvious because that type of ham is purposely made with the cinnamon flavor (the orange part). It's called "chả quế" - cinnamon ham. 18:16 The "riêu" is actually crab paste as we would crush/pound whole small sweet-water crabs and gently boil it to get that airy crumbly cake texture. 28:14 We can let go of the other mispelling but definitely not this one because of the meaning of that word 😅 The one you want to put there is "Phở bò". I guess that you pick up the "Cơm Phở" from the vendor's sign but it just read as "rice and phở". Fun fact is that many vietnamese vendors dont really have a name and just put up name of the dishes that they are selling. 28:24 We dont use chives for phở, that's actually spring onions 30:45 They're pickled papayas and carrots, other places might put them on the side for you to put in based on your preference. 32:00 Yes, bún chả is supposed to be served warm, perfect for the cold winter of Hanoi. Love how your mother did a ssam for you there. 36:50 The "nem chua rán" is actually made of pork and pork skin, which explains the jelly chewy texture. The black sause tho, I think it's a mixture of soy sauce (maggi or other brand) and tamarind as we call it tamarind sauce - "sốt me" 42:40 The typical filling should be green beans. Most types of nuts except for peanuts are quite expensive ingredient in Vietnam so the most popular filling for so many traditional cakes and sweets is bean, expecially green bean. Lastly, it's so cute each time you said fish sauce in vietnamese but it should be nước "mắm" with an "m" ^^ Of course my notes are not absolute as the culture and cuisine of Vietnam are very diverse and there are a lot of variations of each dish among regions. Just an urge to share a more indigenous view. Again, thank you so much for making such a nice video introducing Vietnamese with your culinary insight, Tina. Glad your family had fun!

Hi, the fish noodle soup and snail, crab meat noodle soup are made with another type of noodle called Bún, it’s round rice noodle, it has a little hint of sourness. Phở on the other hand is made with Bánh Phở/Phở, flat rice noodle, that is more bland, when it comes to the taste.

Thank you so much Tina cause u share Ha Noi foods with a bunch of compliments to national friends. I also know that you might be meeting some situations that are hard to share(Food hygiene, service attitude...). I absolutely can see it in this vlog, but surprisingly, you are so kind, nice, and positive. and I like you act like no problems with me. nothing can affect me when I enjoy the food. I appreciate you cause you are very brave and you respect our culture. Sometimes in this vlog, you have some mistakes about names but no problems. Because I appreciate your attitude and behavior 😘 You visit Ha Noi during the Lunar New Year vacation so I think it is not a good time. Hope you can come back to Ha Noi at another time so that you can have a more fun, and exciting experience. I hope this trip to Ha Noi doesn't give you a bad impression of our city. Our country also has many beautiful cities, places, and delicious food. and we always welcome you to visit. That is really LOL when I hear u pronounce fish sauce in Vietnamese

The "Bánh Cuốn Nóng" (13:50) is made of pork, not beef :) Btw "Bún Chả" Hàng Mành (30:39) is just famous for tourists. As a local, I highly recommend to try "Bún Chả" at 52a Châu Long street, Hanoi, for lunch. Simple spot but taste amazing! The other locations are ok, "Gà Nướng" (22:19) is pretty good tho.

I just want to correct 2 things on this video. First is the bánh cuốn, the filling is actually pork (the filling for bánh cuốn is almost always pork, and shirmp in some place, never beef). The ham is called chả quế and you have a great palate. Chả quế is made with cinnamon, skipped the banana leave step and just straight up bake/ deep fried. The dish cháo gà is actually cháo sườn, make with pork ribs (pork rib broth and meat), and the floss is also from pork. Very informative video and I’m glad you were able to try the lesser known food option!

First of all, thank you very much for your interest and sharing the extremely beautiful and delicious videos about my country's cuisine. Personally, I don't like it when someone compares my country's cuisine with others. The cuisine of other countries is different because I see that each country has its own culinary characteristics. It's just that I don't really like being compared. So please, if people try a certain dish, just say what that dish tastes like, don't say it's like this dish here or like a dish from another country. And through history, even though my country Vietnam is China invaded our territory and brutally tried to assimilate us for more than three thousand years. The Vietnamese people themselves are always fighting and maintaining the traditional identity of their own country. the youtuber is extremely adorable , btw.

Hi Tina, i am so glad to run across your video. As a oversea Vietnamese and grew up with VN street foods, I am still amazed at your broad knowledge and understanding of Vietnamese cuisine and street foods. Just the joy your parents and you have when tasting the food and be able to remember and say the food name like a local can speak for your love of food and Vietnamese country so thank you! I can tell you that the amount of food choices you have tried in 3 days from known phở, bánh mì, bánh cuốn, to less known bún ốc, bánh quai vạc chiên, chè etc, are even a local can hardly beat including me. Vietnamese cuisine is IMO l generally quite healthy, less processed and oily. you will find a lot more vegetables + herbs that come with every dish in the south side. I didn't browse other videos of yours but i hope you also had a chance to visit Saigon and miền Tây where you can find a lot more Vietnamese foods to fit your appetites. Bon Petite, best wishes to your parents and your food adventure 🫶❤️🫶

My brother was from Vietnam. This is such a treat to be here virtually. I didn’t know we’d be coming to Vietnam today but Tom choose the vacation. It I so important to me. I love your soup grandma would make noodle soup hanging the noodles on strings across the living room. Allowing them to dry. She ran a soup kitchen. We would make the stock out of chicken mostly but sometimes out of beef or fish.

Agree with your point about the hoisin and sriracha sauce in Pho. It is originated from the North of Vietnam and that's how we properly eat Pho. However, people (Southerners) usually attack us online saying Pho has to have hoisin kinda like they own that dish. Moreover, they even call Northerners with racial slurs online for not putting veggies in.

One small thing that the second dish you ate is "bún chả" not "bún chà". But really, I'm so grateful you added the original name of the dishes and even tried to pronounce them. Love this so much~~~~~~ Edit: nvm, most of the dishes name are wrong but everything else in this video is legit 🫡 "phò bò" = "cow slut" hahahahahahaha so fk cute 🤣
