I remember that all season long Criville was doing these kamikaze overtakes on the last lap. It was his strategy all year long. It was pissing Mick off to no end as Criville couldn’t go fast enough to lead the race if Mick let him through. So Mick would pretty much lead all laps in all races knowing that Criville would attempt his all or nothing manoeuvre. Funnily this incident marked the end of these overtakes as next season Mick threw his leg over the “screamer” and left Criville for dust. Mick was an amazing rider who beat the legends of the sport in his and their prime...

Mick was right there in the thick of things, but that doesn’t change the fact that by ‘91 we had no Lawson, Spencer, Mamola, Sarron, Haslam, Mackenzie, and so many others. Not that Doohan couldn’t have raced with them, he just never had the chance. It’s not an insult to state facts.

Have a look from 1:10. Doohan is the active part here. Is is making his way to Criville. He is neutral in language and appearance. He shakes C´s hand and asks if he is ok. He says: "That's the way it goes right?” and gives C a chance to show signs of responsibility, concern, blame or maybe even shame. C does not do this and M therefor starts to make his way back to his part of the garage. Then C suddenly take initiative and it is very clear from his very first words that he wants to explain circumstances to D, that takes responsibility away from himself. Well, that right there would make me pretty mad if I was in D´s shoes. And rightly so, I think. C is behaving as a very immature person with no regard at all for others safety or interest. An asshole. Maybe D also is, in some regards, I wouldn't doubt it, but how C behaves here, I think says a bit about his personality and it sure doesn't do him any good (if is important to him to be perceived as something else than an asshole).

I'm an Aussie and a Mick Doohan fan. One thing that you can't deny is that Greville never failed to give it a red hot go. If I was a commentator back then I would have nicknamed him "Blacky" for all the rubber he left on the tarmac when exiting corners. He was an exciting rider to watch. Greville's only problem was Mick Doohan. Doohan was better tempered, smoother and more disciplined than his rival. It was the difference between 1 championship wins and 5.

@tb8573 Жыл бұрын
@@Mistiff The notion that only them who have better particular skills than an individual, is allowed to make critical comments about the particular individual, was dismissed as a viable argument (among intellectuals) a few thousands years ago. It´s up there with the notion that only opinions that yourself are in favor of should be included within freedom of speech. As far as Criville, one could argue that it is within the expected competence of someone with the salary he was paid, to able to communicate in the language that is called english without being misunderstood. I know it is a well spread opinion in Spain, France and some other countries that it is unworthy of them to know how to speak in any other language, even though they encounter communication problems like the example here. Immense stupidity on these individuals part. English is not the language that is spoken where I was born and lives, but I understand and accept that it would cause me limitations and problems to chose not to learn it. My conclusion is that Criville and fellow professional motorcycle riders like him think it's not a problem to be able to only communicate empty and hollow phrases.
