This instanstly made me feel old haha, in a good way though, happy to have experienced Doom the nostalgic way, low res and no mouse aim. If i remember correctly we had an soundblaster 16 card which was leaps ahead of ye good old pc speaker that produced the epic prince of persia theme song music.

The first one sounds exactly like my setup at the time, the card was a Sound Blaster Pro.

@@bradallen8909 I agree with number 2 in this video. Wth was that lol But the ESS Audio Soundblaster Pro I had in my PC back then. And I really liked it. And now I get the nostalgia here with the number 1 😀 The best way to listen to doom is obviously using a Roland SC-55 device though. Because with this device the music was made with and you have the most accurate and most detailled music with it
@De-M-oNАй бұрын
@@bradallen8909 Gravis and AWE32 did sound much worse too Also compare with the Roland SC-55. The both ESS audiodrive were the most accurate to it compared to all the other ones in the video
@bradallen8909Ай бұрын
@@De-M-oN What? The ESS AudioDrive was the cheapest, shittest soundcard on the market. A poor quality ripoff of the Sound Blaster. I certainly do agree that the SC-55 sounded much nicer than the GUS or AWE32. But in terms of actual sound cards, rather than MIDI interfaces, the Gravis was in a league of it's own. An absolutely incredible piece of hardware.

Video suggestion: Shadow Warrior Level 1 on different ISA Cards.
@the1990kman29 күн бұрын
Not possible , at least not with music. As far as I know Shadow Warrior uses RTS files for music which is basically like CD audio.

Possibly Adlib or Dreamblaster, but Bethesda (or more accurately modern iD) uses Gravis Ultrasound for the fallback midi soundtrack in the latest official Doom port

The soundtrack was composed on SC-55, so of all the sound cards featured in this video the closest is the Dreamblaster X2GS because uses the same GS sample bank as the SC-55.

Was the PicoGUS using the original GUS sample set?

I think so, at least that's what I assume, because I've never owned a real GUS. If I'm wrong people can correct me.

@@De-M-oN A GUS was by FAR the best sound card to play Doom with. Did the music sound better on the Roland devices? Maybe. But you didn't get sound effects.

@@bradallen8909 Every Video I listened to it on youtube and BFG Edition too, it did sound like trash and was totally off too. If you know a video or can record where it actually does what you say I would be interested to hear it 😅 _Did the music sound better on the Roland devices? Maybe_ Well the music was made with this device by Prince. So you cant get more accurate and detailled than that one ;-D You would use the Roland only for the music of course. The sound effects are still played by your soundcard.
