Couldn't find a comparison so I made one myself. The game itself is also pretty fun.

It seems the algorithm has blessed this old video of mine, and just wanted to say how cool it is to see people discussing it. However, given that I literally made this video in a couple hours, I'd like to go a little further in depth over some of the things I've missed. Some people have rightly compared the first clip to songs like "The Grudge" (which has a bassline that utilizes a similar timbre as well as using some of the same notes) and "Reflection" (which also makes significant usage of the toms). One user even compared the intro bassline to a song called "Hey Man Nice Shot" by "Filter" (which I think is a bit unfair, even if the resemblance is definitely there). The main riff of the Doom 3 theme only really shares a few notes with the main riff of "Lateralus", but the first few notes do match up rather well. The main riff does also bear at least some resemblance to many other riffs by many other nu metal bands, despite being in a strange time signature (3 measures of 5 followed by 1 measure of 6). The third section does also sound somewhat similar to the bridge of "Eulogy", despite being in a different key. Multiple users also mentioned the end of "Third Eye", which does sound remarkably similar to the end of the Doom 3 theme. Also I should mention the theme was made by Tweaker (founded by Chris Vrenna of NIN), not ID Tech :P But as for the conclusion; Do I think Tweaker ripped off Tool? No, but also kinda. You see, it'd be one thing if they utilized just one of the many Tool-esque aspects such as the: Tool-style bassline Significant use of toms Weird time signatures The use of the same notes/progressions Weird droning guitars But to utilize all of these aspects, alongside directly copying some chords/note patterns (again, this very much applies to Third Eye and Lateralus), just goes to shows that they were totally going for a Tool-esque sound, or at the very least a Tool-inspired Nu metal sound. Yes, the time signatures don't match, but there are much more significant aspects to music that contribute to a band's "sound" than the time signatures. But with that all said, the Doom 3 theme is a unique piece in it's own right. Unlike the older Doom games, it never directly recycles a riff. And despite it's inspirations shining through very strongly, I still believe that the emotions it cultivates are unique and are a near-perfect representation of the game itself.

Just for Doom and Doom 2, Bobby Prince took famous rock songs of the 80s and 90s to make the sound tracks by making MIDI versions of those songs but he doesn't deny it though, that was the intention from start, to make you feel the 90s vibe. For Doom 3 it's a whole different situation.

The Doom 3 theme was composed and performed by Chris Vrenna. Formerly of Nine Inch Nails. All great music we listen to is directly inspired by one idea we heard before or another.
