An Episode 4 map that looks and feels like an Episode 1 map... sure, why not. The first Tim Willits map we've encountered so far, and it's a pretty good debut. The weird bit of trivia for today is that a screenshot of a door from this level is used as the background image for two mini-games in the later Dooms - "Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3" and "Demon Destruction."

Love playing this map. I'm surprised you were spared from by the RNG gods at 2:51 and 2:53, you can see the bullets hitting the wall just pixels from your hitbox. Personally I think Nightmare is how Doom & Doom II is intended to play. The game is so easy without fast respawning monsters, so Nightmare answers the question "Why did UAC fall to the demons in the first place?"
@Fuchsia_tude Жыл бұрын
Nah, not intended. iD originally added Nightmare as a prank in an early patch because some people complained the game was too easy in Ultra-Violence; they were like "oh yeah?" If it was intended, it would have shipped in 1.00. People have just gotten much, much better at FPSs, and Doom specifically, since 1993.
@OmegaTyrant Жыл бұрын
Even with just fast monsters this map gets tough, you were so smooth at getting the Mega Armor at the start, whereas I would keep falling off and taking huge damage or dying when I tried to grab it immediately with fast monsters around.

1:27 "Items nobody knows about." That made me feel pretty good since I just did a 100% items run a couple months ago and I did know about them, and the rocket launcher. Not a big fan of this map though. It's tough at the start, but it's small, symmetrical, and not very rewarding.

I don't think E4M1 and E4M2 have a backpack so if you're not pistol starting you can take this into E4M3. Though that does have a backpack itself so it's not much of an extra.

@@Zikar That's, not what I mean. I meant why is the Backpack at the end of this map that alot of people are Pistol Starting so therefore the Backpack is kinda useless to be having around. Oh well, it is for some people that doesn't do Pistol Start in a way. 🤔
@chriswilliams1775 Жыл бұрын
@@lukebehrendsbro. When this map was designed, making levels balanced for pistol start wasn't as prevalent as it is now. There's a pretty good handful of classic maps that have stuff like weapons, armor, powerups, etc. tucked at the end because it would give continuous players a leg up in the next map. Refreshing, no deaths. Granted, the forces of Hell didn't have an Alma Wade on standby. Here's a bit of trivia pertaining to this expansion: Though TFC's release (before it became one single whole with the previous three Episodes via The Ultimate Doom) is admittedly wrought as a free patch, a gaming magazine, whose name eludes me, deemed it as a cash grab that felt exploitative enough to lure unwitting players on getting it for an unfair experience, not unlike how Spear of Destiny did for Wolfenstein 3D.
