The trick to secret encounters is to cheese the ice bomb and ballista. Most of them also offer ways to funnel the enemies into a corridor or give you a wide field of view, then slicing them all in half with the ballista is easy. I've only had issues with a single encounter, the one on Taras Nabad with a shield-whore, as I call them. Still not too bad if you have good keybindings and fast reflexes.

I prefered to to play 2016 like that, but it's more grounded and realistic and small-scale. Eternal is too chaotic and crowded to pick out stagger animations, at least for me, at least for now. Might try playing with it off again in the near future.

Damn, this is just absolutely nuts. I just finished the master level today and tried my hardest not to use the BFG ans Crucible, but those last few arenas just kicked my butt so hard I couldn't do it. And that was on regular too, so you doing this is beyond insane. Sucks that there isn't any kinda' saving system too, with everything it throws at you, I just can't handle it most of the time.

Weapon-switching like this is ez pz with practice, other Doom Eternal runners like FrostyXen and... I think he's called LightningBreak? Well, they use default bindings besides I think they put the minigun on something like T. Personally, I put the heavy machine gun on E, rocket launcher on R, super shotgun on Q and 1, and ballista and minigun go on side mouse buttons. Everything is accessible in an instant, very easy. Only things I sometimes fumble with are crucible and BFG on V and T, but I rarely use those, anyways. I often beat levels without remembering that I have super weapons as an option. Edit: Oh yes, I also put mod-swap on mousewheel up and grenade change on mousewheel down. Better there than on keys, I think.

I like how all abilities are just 1 cm from you, for example, as for nades he uses E, which is very accessible and comfortable. The thing is I'm trying to learn how to do those combos for quick scoping, rocket, ballista, sup shotgun and repeat. It's sometimes very anxious to watch how you mess up your cycle and your weapon efficiency just becomes 0.

Q, E, R etc. are not the best options as you have to lift your fingers off of movement keys. Most used weapons i bind to B, V, or C. This requires some getting used to, but this way you can do weapon rotation with your thumb without ever interrupting WASD movement.

I just beat this on extra life mode/ Ultra Violence and holy balls these are rough. Didnt die but as a first run it was heart racing. Damn near no other game gets the blood pumping like Doom. Still cant beat the master levels on Nightmare but so happy there is something to work towards.

I beat this last night. I will admit i was playing on the easiest difficulty, but I still had plenty of fun and thats what matters. Also it made me realize that Super Gore Nest is paced like a Metroidvania, especially the Classic Mode Master Level, where you haw to go around finding new weapons and weapon attachments.

You can skip the whole fight where the whiplashes are with a bunch of climbable walls, ( right before the power up fight). Jump on that wall when the red barrier pops up, might have to jump back and grab the wall a few times but will pull you thru the wall as you grab the ledge
