When I first played this level, the Revenant behind the door startled the crap out of me. My response was whipping out my rocket launcher and Blasting him in the face. I felt it was an appropriate response to an unexpected revenant.

You don't have to save your game. If you don't make that jump to the platform, you can lower it as a lift.

This is such a fantastic Map. I'm only now playing Doom 2 for the first time and have just started to practice this level. After the City level before this felt like a really fresh return to form of the classic map structure. I loved the city map as well once i learned it but at first it was really overwhelming - but its such a nice change of pace to come back to something more enclosed like this.

I think this is the best designed map in all the doom games.. has a fort/castle/clubhouse feel. Love the covered bridge, the doors, the moat, the little cages with the chaingunners. I love this map, wish it had been a real, abandoned area near my house growing up haha

I personally love this map. If you've ever played with respawns on, you may realize exactly how many positions enemies are set up to snipe you from. You are SO vulnerable on this map from SO many angles. Maybe that's what's slowing down gameplay for you. Maybe the hitscanners on the balconies could be imps or some projectile-based monsters, but I think that may harm gameplay even more. I dunno; I'm inclined to replace all the chaingunners with revenants or something and see how that goes just for the sake of trying.

Yeah, me too I barely scrape by with ammo. On some situation I was forced to run good chunks of the map with only the chainsaw because I ran out of ammo on all weapons !

This is one of the best maps in Doom 2 IMHO. Smooth and fluid layout, wonderful architecture (it really looks like a fortress and moat), and great enemy placement.

This is one of my favorites in the game. I like the stone structures, and the architecture in a number of the rooms is really good. I also like the mix of hitscan and projectile enemies. This map can also get confusing which gives it a bit of a challenge. I also think the music used fits the map. Definitely one of best maps in Doom II in my opinion.

7:05 you can kill all the enemies in this room, way before you even have the blue or red key, if you look to your right when you pass the downed red bars, you will see a lift, its a VERY tricky jump to make, but you can strafe-run from that lift onto the ledge, you will have to try several times before you will make it, you can kill all the enemies, including the spectre inside the blue room! Its a better way to do it like this, why? If you take damage here, you can get enough medkits to take full advantage of the supercharge in the aragnotron room ;) thanks for the amazing walkthrough though!

I noticed if you jump down to the water next to the red door there is a box of bullets and three med kits plus a switch. I think the switch lowers a crusher where the imp is after the first switch in the level. I don't know how to describe where I'm referring to exactly but you probably already know about it anyway. Great video as usual.

6:28 you can snipe off the aragnotron and the imp from between those 2 doors you used to kill the arch-vile with your bfg, you open up the first door and then turn left and you will see the aragnotron in the distance, use your chaingun with "single" blasts and you will kill the imp and the aragnotron!

They are not only entertaining they are also informative :D As for this map i like it too but you know i'd probably added a few flying monsters like cacodemons or pain elementals or maybe some mancubus. I think you have the best reasoning and explanation as to what this map is missing. The variety of enemies. There are no flying enemies, no Mancubi, and that makes the gameplay a little bland. Very, very good thinking. :)

Oh, oh! My God. Doom 2! in 2013! I played this in the 90ties..... wonderful game. This game has codes that you simply type on your keyboard... with them, you get all keys, invulnerability, or walk trough walls.... ah, memories!

The rocket launcher can count as a secret, but it is not tallied, so it's a bit of a non-official secret. Interesting thing is on ZDoom, the Secret counter goes to 100, but playing it on Doom95 (how I play it) the Secret counter goes to 0.

Yeah, some source ports (like ZDoom) automatically bump the secret tally to 100% even if there are no secrets on the map.

I always praised the fact that this Map has no teleporting at all -- it is a design merit IMHO. After Map 7 (Dead Simple), which has zero teleporters as well, the only Maps with no teleporting are this one and the two secrets (Maps 31 & 32).

Hey davis if you fall off the winding staircase the grey one in the first area there is a passege with stempacks and a switch and if you flip it you can crush the imp standing next to the rocket luncer next to the lift you get on with the switch.

Something strange happened when I played; I got 101% kills, 100% Items, and 0% secret. I followed your walkthrough just like you did it, with the exception of some additional exploration leading to the discovery of a hidden crusher. Now, I'm not actually playing the same thing, I'm playing Doom 3 BFG edition for PS3, but it contains the classic versions of Doom 1 and Doom 2 as well. The backpack near the well in the Gantlet that you said was removed in newer versions was still there in the one I'm playing.

So idk how I didn’t get any secrets but I go one that everyone missed... the crusher room outside of the area you get the rocket launcher. If you scale the wall steps on the right of the red door and push toward the water you can get down there. You can use that machine gunners vantage point to rocket the archvile but also if you go around the water to the right instead of toward the chaingunners perch there is a separate room on the other side of the rocket room with a series of switches and a door that gets stuck half way and a crusher... no clue what it’s there for but check it out

I agree with you. The design of this map is awesome, but the gameplay misses something... I think that is challenge, I mean, tough but fair challenge, just like "Slayer" of Plutonia or "Mt. Erebus" of Ultimate Doom. Those maps have the replay value that you've mentioned. Now the next map.... I will need help to beat it, lol. BTW, in a couple of hours I'll upload the final part of my JK2 walkthrough, finally. If you're interested, you can watch it and I'll appreciate that, lol. Anyway, nice video my friend!

Yeah, I think it's the variety of enemies that's missing. This map's gameplay relies on one theme. Just kill gunners and Imps, and also, you can get shot from all sides because you're surrounded a lot of the time. That can sometimes get annoying. As far as your Walkthrough goes, sure, I can watch that. I'd be glad to. :)

I think the problem with this map is that all the encounters can be sniped from far away. Sniping by itself is fun but not if that's all there is to do. I think this would have bemefited from a couple of ambushes or flying enemies that could get right in you face to force you to look for vantage points around the map instead of staying stationary

I don't think this map is all that bad in my opinion. It was annoying for me at first but I got the hang of it. Not the best map (not by a long shot) but it is a solid one, at least to me it is. Industrial Zone I enjoy as well.

This map is such an iconic design it has three sequels!! (but were they new experiences!). Map 15 of Memento Mori, Map 24 of Hell Revealed II and Map 15 of Claustrophobia 1024 I don't know why this map has no secrets. The two areas you flagged would be good ideas if you wanted to add some to the map

There are no secrets in this map. If it says 0% at the end tally screen for you, then your version tallies no secrets as 0%.

Hello! So there are two notes I have to make about this video. The first being that there is an area immediately to the left to the start area where there was an imp for me and you drop down to get a bunch of stim packs, for a non-secret area that I thought was notable and interesting. The second thing is that I did not attain 100% secrets, I got 0% secrets. Is there something I missed or is it just the source port handles secrets differently on this map?

My source port, ZDoom (and GZDoom) automatically gives you 100% secrets if there are 0 secrets to be found. In the original versions of this game, 0 secrets means 0%, which is kinda dumb.

Indeed. You still have to venture into the large area and grab the Invisibility. But once you grab it, it makes killing the gunners in the next room a little easier.

Same I play the BFG edition for PS3 don’t display when you get secrets..and I can’t back out of doom 1 and 2..like if I choice to play doom 2 and wnat to switch to doom 1 or 3 I got to completely exit out the game and come back then choose...except doom 3..you can back all the way out and choose a dif game but not the 1 or 2...

the one thing this map is missing for gameplay is that on ultra violence this map only has 1 part were it is dangerous and that was the part with the arch vile the thing about doom 2 is that you expect enemies everywhere coming at you from all sides and this map doesn't have that fun a lot.
