the "stationary", "pathetic" archvile in that side room in the central hub can sometimes get loose in the room with the revenants (maybe if something else teleports to that little square first and blocks him out and into hitting another linedef?) which is always a fun, potentially run-killing surprise

"Attempt number 7" That's how you know it's going to be a good video. The kill count in this level is pretty deceiving though because most of the enemies are in that massive slaughterfest at the end. When I first played this map I thought I was in for one of those hour-long slogs like BTSX is so fond of (which is why I still haven't finished that WAD yet, I have to block out my afternoon if I want to play a level or two...)

Ooooh man....that death at 42:28 hurt. From 200/100 to 34/18 from a direct Cyber Demon hit followed up by a Hell Knight finisher a second later... that was perfect timing from those monsters.

I kept only trying a few times a day, but today, I simply woke up and worked it out. Good grief the section right after the beginning gave me the most trouble. I would corner myself and get sneak attacked by the cyber. Everything after that though I worked out pretty cleanly. The 6 arch-viles on the towers though felt like I got lucky, oh well. XD Always feels good to beat one of these levels and relax while watching how you did it. 5 levels to go.

Outtakes 3 and 6 are my favorites. Big Boi just scams you as you walk right on by, and then you just take that Hell Knight fireball like a champ. Still cleared it, which is more than I'll ever be able to do.

I love this map. I also despise it. If you take the beginning section one line def at a time, it's not so bad. I thought the cqc situations with the Cyberdemons are what put it over the top for me. Besides that, the pain elementals are the scariest thing at the end. The invulnerability make the archvile trap more manageable, even if it is pretty stupid imo. No more easy maps from this point forward. Difficulty: hard Also, watching your LP of sunlust inspired me to try sunder UV pistol start. I made it to map 4 without saves, fuck map 05 since I'm not a fan of platforming in doom. Even still, I managed to beat it. Map 06? Nope. Even with saves, it took way too long and I just didn't have the patience to continue. Good luck on the next map!

Pistol start makes these last two maps much more difficult. Here it's all about crowd control and not getting overwhelmed, so starting with a BFG makes a huge difference. So these videos make me really appreciate the skill required on pistol starts.

Gives an appreciation for the work that goes into a final playthrough. Many deaths lead up to it, much trial & error. Watching it is like watching an action movie: the viewer vicariously beats the odds by identifying with the protagonist, but without all the effort. Like watching Chuck Norris fight. Doing this map is beyond my ability (I wouldn't survive the first 2 minutes), but I enjoyed watching it done by a pro.
