19:21 The change of medkits cross colour from red to green was done mostly because of a risk of getting a lawsuit from the Geneva Convention. As its illegal to use their Red Cross imagery by any unauthorized individuals, groups etc. The latest example that i remember of getting a law suit because of a red cross featured in game was in Stardew valley and Among us out of all games😭. So they did that mostly because of that.

So about the chronology of the ports: the Jaguar version was actually the first console port developed but the second to be released (the 32X version came out slightly ahead of it) and was done by John Carmack, which probably explains why it turned out so well. The cuts made to the levels from the original 3 episodes were carried over into most subsequent ports, even the PS1 version where you'd think they would no longer be necessary. The SNES version didn't come out until much later (1995) and was largely developed by one guy, Randy Linden, who made a custom engine to get the game to run properly on the system.

Why don’t they remake this game? Because it’s near perfect. These games are way better suited for reboots like Doom 2016 instead of remaking the original. In fact, they kind of did with Doom 3 and took it in a whole different direction. You say at the PS4/Xbox One/Switch version that nothing is altered. But why would you want that in a port of the original Doom? Gotta say I was kind of disappointed with the lack of research done for this video. The reason why the medkits have different sprites is 100% because of copyright. The Red Cross owns the red cross. “I’m not sure which came before, Doom PS1 or Doom 64”. A simple Google search would have answered that question. (PS1 Doom is the answer) Also Doom for SNES is not the first console port. It came out in 95 wheras the 32x and Jaguar ports released in 94. Doom is one of the best documented games on the internet. So basic knowledge about all these versions and why they run good or bad is out there. It’s just a shame you didn’t go through the trouble of doing that to make a great video.

GBADoom includes 8 new deathmatch maps PsNDoom was released as a package of the 4 games you play seperately KexDoom includes 26 new deathmatch maps I would say that Playstation Doom is the only non Kex doom port you should try today. The Kex ports of Doom64 and Doom/2/MasterLevels/FinalDoom/NoRestfortheLiving are the best doom has looked and ran along with including Sigil and Legacy of Rust. Playstation Doom has a different atmosphere, 8 levels not in KexDoom and the JaguarDoom versions of levels so is worth trying just to see doom in a different light. The 2 XboxDoom levels aren't great so i wouldn't recommend getting XboxDoom just for them. why on earth did i do this for almost 3 hours.

@glitchhunter094 ай бұрын
SNES port of doom had a custom engine made for it. that's why it transitioned so well. Doom 32X and the Atari Jaguar port entered production around the same time. The 32X version was actually rushed to meet the launch of the 32X. the 32X port has a very steady framerate as you can see. That is the Sega Mega Drives "blast processing". Though Blast Processing is a marketing term for the mega drive's refresh rate which was designed to allow 60hz with almost no slow down (in PAL region it is 50Hz) though. 32X doom as with most 3D rendered games halves the framerate. it's about 30HZ instead. Jaguar port can play music but only if you have two jaguars linked via Jag link. Saturn version suffered from John Carmack being an asshole and making the developer recode the game multiple times because he wanted it to be like the Jaguar version or whatever. basically, he was just being his egotistical self. HE did finally apologize for ruining the saturn version. Also, the special spectres are still in the Saturn version, but they look the same as normal ones. The green blood in the GBA port had nothing to do with Nintendo. It was actually so they could get the game a T for Teen/ PEGI - 12+ rating. The Xbox 360 version even ports over all the original game bugs, even crashes! And yes, the health kit changes are indeed because of copyright. Red Cross is a copyrighted symbol of the Red Cross. This isn't the first time the cross has been censored either. in the 360/PS3 port of Doom 2, they are replaced with red and white pill pictures. (this also affects the Doom 3 BFG Edition versions) Also, the 360 version of Doom 2 also includes a new episode: "No Rest for the Living"

As an exercise in translating the PC game to an early generation console, the SNES version is under rated. As an aggregate, it keeps an impressive number of the PC versions levels, including several that didn't appear in any of those other console ports, it features all the bigger boss enemies missing from several of the other ports, it maintains the three-episode structure of the PC original, and as a whole the level geometry stays true to the PC version in ways many that the other consoles compromised it. Out of those generations of consoles, if fidelity to the PC Doom was what I were looking for, then the Super Nintendo port was the best of them. Green blood aside, Gameboy Advance Doom 2 was also a very faithful adaptation of the PC game, and deserves kudos for it.

Another misinformed KZbinr saying the Sega Saturn was not "good" at 3D. The Doom engine is NOT 3D; it's a raycasting engine. It relies on the system's processor for rendering quickly, not the GPU. The original game was made to run on 486 PCs, which lacked any 3D accelaration capabilities. The reason why the Saturn port is worse than the PlayStation one, is because it was not optimized for Saturn hardware. The devs in charge of the port wanted to make it run on the same engine as Duke Nukem 3D on the Saturn, but John Carmack shot the idea down, as he disliked texture warping (common on both PS1 and Saturn as neither has Z buffering). Had the devs made use of the Saturn's 2nd SH2 processor, DOOm would have run much better. Alas, it was a wasted opportunity.
