Microsoft could probably _force_ id to let other studios they own use their engine, but they might also have _finally_ learned their lesson after destroying Bungee, Rare, and so many other studios to die from corporate over-meddling and have decided to just leave id alone and not destroy the magic. And since John Carmack left, it's very clear that id has decided they don't really want to be in the game engine business, anymore. Their engines are crazy technological wizardry, but they're also _very_ focused and it would probably be a huge burden for them to try and make it more generalized for third parties to use, even if those 3rd parties are also making FPS titles, too.

This game doesn’t give me DOOM vibes, kind of gives me a Serious Sam sort of feeling. It looks and feels amazing. That game engine is pretty astonishing. I wish they would introduce environmental destruction. As, of any game on the market, DOOM would be amazing with crumbling environmental architecture that could hurt the enemy and you. Like knocking a piece off of a building or pillar and landing on top of an enemy or an enemy doing the same to you. it would add an entirely new gameplay feature that would change things up quite a bit. Especially in multiplayer.

While I have complete faith in Id, the more open environments showcased has me kinda worried. I really enjoyed the flow and tightly curated arenas in the newer Doom games. Each arena was like a deathmatch map, and had clear through-lines and thought put into them, with ample ways to traverse through them so you never stop moving (and thus don't die). From the environments shown here, they're all just open fields with none of that. I've got no doubt that the structured arenas are in there, it's just as likely Id was just showing these open areas off to showcase the game's graphics, but I do hope they don't take a back seat to open areas with no cover like what we see here. The gameplay (as we currently know it), doesn't work as well in those types of environments, or at least not as well. To me, anyway.

If anything, the lack of obvious RT in the trailer, but the knowledge it has to be there in some capacity, proves to me that rasterization can still look incredible. The art style of DOOM lends itself to this sort of approach, with artistry first and foremost, complimented by RT in the right places where it is worth the performance hit. I'm expecting some level of RT reflections and probably some shadows. Maybe we'll see some bounce lighting as well, but I don't expect ID to go hard on anything that would heavily impact performance for what they may feel is minimal gains as it would be usually small details compared to what enemy you're lining up on next.

I love the aesthetic. Reminds me of the good old Painkiller. Great game.

Really hope the bring the multiplayer back like in 2016. That was fun and would be nice to play in a setting like this

All I want is a VR mode for this game, or at least the old ones (2016 & Eternal).

If they went back to Doom 1/2 level design I would be so happy.

id delivering their mastery in game engines since 1995...and that's only on the technical side of things. Even small details like that skull machine gun deserve praise.

I would love it if Bethesda has id Software to make the next elder scrolls. They would make the game so beautiful and make it run so smooth.

I’ve known Doom for a long time but was never really excited to play it. However this one really intrigued me!

Uuugh, waiting for this game is like waiting for DOOM ETERNAL all over again! I love this feeling but it’s also torture at the same time! I’m gonna be injecting every bit of news, updates and content into my VEINS with every passing day all over again!!

I get strong Painkiller vibes from new Doom, which isn't a bad thing, as IMO these aesthetics rock. But of course I have faith in id software they will do this setting a better justice - PK games have not aged that well in terms of gameplay. But yeah, this medieval, metal hell is what I've been missing since playing them. I wonder how they'll balance gameplay this time. Doom 2016 is a classic run-gun game with a bit of arena shooter DNA and expanded movement (double jump, vaulting) and I like it. Doom Eternal is a full-blown translation of high level play multiplayer arena shooter mayhem and I absolutely adore it. But I do accept that it is too rigid in design and hardcore for many. I do hope they managed to preserve some of that DE gameplay, maybe making it not "a must" but "more rewarding" thing in terms of combat. Anyway, this is day one purchase (I have PS5 Digital, so no reason for pre-order) for me!

Any news on when we going to get a new trailer / gameplay reveal possibly end of October? If not then for sure the game awards in Dec or xbox direct in January what's your opinion?

I'm not surprise if they ditched Ray Tracing on Console for more detail, larger scale designs, framerates. not saying they can't pull it off as this is Id Software but the focus is 100% 60fps+ and maybe even 120fps modes now on console. PC on the other hand I'm confident in seeing it continue to have Ray Tracing and possibily add more, exactly the type of game you would expect to go out and beyond for PC/RTX features unless Microsoft somehow cocked that.
