In this one, I add the main door bars to the roll cage portion of the Nova's 25.3 Chassis.

Ive been looking for videos for a 25.3 chassi build and so far these are the best ones. Im looking at building my first sfi cage. Im not welding lol i have a tig welder buddy and hes going to get cert. But great videos

I'm glad that you have given out the cord dimension to check angles. Not alot of people use that in the chassis world

Couple questions, does the bend in the door bar affect certification at all ? And why are the center frame rails short in the front. Amazing work sir.

Now I want to triple check my SFI book, but I don't think it says anything about the door bars not being allowed to be bent. I will check on that to make 100% sure, though. The center 2a frame rails are short, because this is a stock front suspension car (with a factory style subframe instead of a strut front end) and those bars will only go far enough forward to tie into the front subframe. Just to clarify, I looked in my 25.3 SFI Chassis Book, and it does not mention anything about the main door bars not being allowed to be bent, and there is a general rule that any bar can be bent or angled unless otherwise specified.

A question if you don't mind. At 47:.20 you mentioned adding diagonals to the main hoop ( d bars in nhra rulebook) as being necessary for an 8:50 cert. I have a 37 Chev gasser I am doing an 8:50 cage in. Are those bars necessary , as I thought only required if unibody.? My main hoop is welded to the frame. If required can I mount them to the flood with plates ? Many thanks.

Correct, the D bars are only "mandatory when main hoop is welded to plates on floor and/or rocker/sill in lieu of frame" quoted from the NHRA rule book. The reason I mentioned that is because Novas are not full frame vehicles, they only have a front subframe that ends under the front seat area, so a Nova would typically require D bars. Your 37 Chevy has a full frame, and like you said, the main hoop is welded to the frame, so D bars are not required in your car. Thanks for watching and commenting!
