my mother in law has lived in her house all her life. she's now 92 and moved in when she was in her 30s. i love her old house. what i really love is that the door knobs in the entire house are glass. all the cabinets knobs are also glass. and she still has all original pieces!! your door knobs are stunning! good choice.

Gorgeous hardware! I would love to see the rest. I was just thinking- your home is going to be so well built because of your meticulous attention to detail. It's truly a lost art. We are in the construction industry, and can attest to the shoddy work that goes on these days. As finish carpenters, we are supposed to make everyone else's mistakes disappear, but we refuse, and make them come back in to fix their mistakes. The homeowners deserve a quality home!

Doug I think this whole house project fits you and Ashley to a T. You both are still young enough and enthusiastic enough to get the work done and are not willing to just go with status quo. You get down to the foundation and set everything up as it should have been from the get go. Solid work ethic and you all will have a house worthy of called a home.

My husband did doors and hardware for 30 years.... He always said don't use the short screws that come with the kits... long screws make the lock stronger and hard to kick in... he also put metal plates in the frames for strength

Children learn by looking and touching, and the look on Maverick's face was priceless when he picked up the coiled strapping and found it made a coil spring. The front door furniture looked great. It suited your design targets for the house refurbishment. You took care and made a great job of trimming the apertures for the plates. Your care and attention to detail paid off with the neat finish you achieved. Another pillar is done, okay it was the one done today, but every one done, is one less to be done. You are taking care and have pride in your work, well done for all the effort and not rushing, you feel better as the work rolls forward, with no regrets or need to redo things in future.

Love the hardware on the door. We went with a similar style and found out that black bears have no problem opening the door if the dead bolt isn't engaged. Now instead of bolting the door just before bedtime we make sure it's bolted right before the sun sets.

Wow guys, that hardware for the front door is absolutely gorgeous, I really love the vibe it is giving, I would really love being able to put that kind of hardware on my front door and some other doors I have on my property. Great job on those peers, it is looking so good, it is so much better than the original foundation, they did not do that good of a job, and yours is going to look so nice and finished looking, it will give a nice vibe. Maverik is just so adorable, it was fun seeing him playing with that piece of metal and how it wound around itself like a snake. Thanks for another great video, I am looking forward to the next one. When you are at the store pick up a couple of chisels a 3/4 and 1 inch should be fine and build up confidence in using them, they are the correct tools when fitting locks not a dremil type tool, but good job and very neat 👍😊😻🦤🦖🗿

The hardware for the door is so beautiful. I worked in a very old hotel years ago and the building was beautiful with such craftsmanship like we don't see now days and that door reminds me of that. The hardware is beautiful. One bit of advice. The plates. Especially the plate for the deadbolt. Go to the store and get really solid screws (high end strong ones) that are much longer. Sink those into the studs near the plate. A security guy once told us that the fail point in 90% of doors is the short stubby screws around the kick plate that the lock goes into. It only costs a few more cents and adds a mile more security to the overall lock. Locks are like fire extinguishers. You will likely never need it but it will be fantastic if and when it ever becomes needed.

Looks like Maverick is making a giant sized Slinky toy. Like your blue bunny supervisor who's keeping an eye on your work. Doug - you a such a perfectionist - so nice to see someone who is willing to do it right no matter how much is involved to do so as opposed to the "just get it done" attitude so many people have these days. Not sure what if any plans you have to close in the bottom part, but you might want to consider privacy lattice - would keep critters out and have an old cottage feel. Even at one day per pier, because you're in Florida, at least you can keep working on it instead of having to put the work on cold for the winter.
