Turn your vice grips 180° and then you can do the “pull to open”. Good video, I need to do the same to my 54

Thanks! The kit is pretty good, but it takes a while to adjust. Also, the hinges have to be in good shape first, before proceeding with the latch kit install.

It's good to be able to make things work by changing it sides. The vehicles now nothing can be switched around like on old Oscar. Great kit and video.

Thanks! I wish modern vehicles were as simple.

Nice video! Appreciate you detailing how to install this kit. I saw this kit install by another YTer and thought it had to be welded - this bolt-in is really nice for those of us that don't have that skill! I have a 51 so will be slightly different but essentially the same I expect

This is a great video, I watched another video that showed a guy using 64 chevy door latch remotes they put that strap arm in the groove and have all the bolt holes needed. And you can get them for 30 bucks new

They’re sold under the trade name Trique Manufacturing, or Altman Easy Latch. Any hot rod, or street rod supply will have them. I think they’re available through Summit, too.

The first mistake I heard was at about the 1:35 mark. '47-'51 trucks had the turn down handles. The push button style began with the '52 model.
@HotRodDad2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, sir. I misspoke. There were several changes to those trucks in the ‘51-‘53 model years. Hard to keep ‘em all straight.

They offer a slightly different kit for the earlier door handles, but the process is essentially the same. Thanks for watching!

From the passenger side.

did your new door rubber keep the door from closing all the way ?
@HotRodDad Жыл бұрын
I’ve never put the rubber on the doors. It’s just an old beater. Our black truck I just put the wind lace on and it’s nice and quiet, so I never put the rubber on it either. I’ve heard a lot of stories about the rubber being a nightmare. I have a friend that has built hundreds of these trucks. He says to put the rubber on, and ratchet strap the doors shut for a couple of weeks before you even put the latches in.

Thank you. I need to do the same.Maybe Santa Claus will remember me. I like the bucket seats. What are they out of? How did you mount them? I'm working on my Ol'Beater 54. Now that I'm retired. Mine is also going to be a flat bed. Thanks
@HotRodDad2 жыл бұрын
Seats are from a ‘74 Mercedes I found in the junk yard. I just built some simple mounts from channel to mount them on and bolted to the floor. The original seat riser was already cut out.

The factory door handle on these trucks has a built in lock, but only on the passenger side. I’m going to use two passenger side door handles. They will interchange from side to side, or so I’m told. We’ll see.
