@@DIMTips one big tip I would suggest you research is the "safe isolation procedure" so there's no danger of electric shock if exposed parts are touched. Remember switches can fail. Also in turning off the power you should start with turning the mcb's off first so there's less internal acr across the main switch. It's great seeing videos like this just needs to be done in a safe manner.

Ring recommends using an 18gauge cable from the bell to step down transformer. What size wire does the 18 gauge wire equate to? I'm not sure what size wire you used. Didn't look like a standard bell wire. Please advise
@DIMTips3 жыл бұрын
I used 1.5mm. 18 gauge is 1.02mm. All in all not much in it. 1mm electric wire is easier to work with.

How am I supposed to get the wiring from the chime, to the fuse box. I don't want to tear up a bunch of plasterboard... My chime is wired, but think it's running off an existing ring, such as the ground floor plugs or lights maybe.
@DIMTips5 ай бұрын
Yeah. Not an easy job. Electrician perfer for it not to be in the unit
@Mike_511 ай бұрын
You need to ensure that the Low Voltage side of the transformer is totally isolated from the 230V supply and you cannot do that in a Consumer Unit best to use a separate DIN rail enclosure for the transformer maybe next time as this will fail an EICR immediately

Informative video - thanks BUT Please amend with some kind of warning at the beginning to remind people to check for live with a wand or similar device. Having seen 2 electricians get a belt of 240v when troubleshooting faults I learnt that you should check every time you switch power on or off. People aren't perfect - even the most conscientious make mistakes - might not be your mistake - might be the previous guy - takes seconds to check and wands are cheeeep - no brainer really. Good vid otherwise - thanks.
