Trust me - there apparently is a glitch and if you hit Dash Now before your scheduled time you automatically go to dash per hour. This has happened to me twice. You get a lot of double orders one is always the low pay no tip order. If you pause more than once or decline more than once you’d dash will be ended. I don’t and won’t dash by hour. My acceptance rate should have rose but it decline and I still (or so I thought) was sch go work another 1.5 hours. When I reached out to support they told me I had to re- download the app to fix that problem. I scheduled a 5 hour dash and only made $34. I hate this new program and they could do nothing about it. The Dash support guy said - you have another dash scheduled later. I told him sooooo I have daily goals to reach and I schedule the same times daily!!! They don’t care at all.

Sadly I'll be resigning at least for the time being. I am losing my car and I have been working a traditional job for the last 3 weeks and can't even get paid, so I'll be homeless for a while. It was good to dash while I did. I had a blast making people's days by getting their orders to them. Hopefully one day I'll be able to dash again... but at this point the best I can hope for is getting the money to pay my rent

I have had to wait long times before, and there is one restaurant that was even rude to me as a Dasher, so the next time I got a delivery for that merchant I declined and put I do not want to go to that merchant. Never have gotten one from there again. Also left a comment about it. They would never tell me how long it would be before the order was ready, there were times that I waited 15 minutes to even get the order. I've driven doordash and UberEats for about 1.5 to 2 years now. The first 🥇 thing you do is mathmatics. Know your mpg. Know your area. Know your time/distance ratio. 1) Takes 2 min per mile. 2) $15/hr is 25c per min 2b) $20/hr is 33c per min 3) Vehicle rate is 63c/mile. 3b) ⛽ price ÷ mpg [18c] 4) Wear, maintenance, cell Example; You stage in the middle of the commercial area. You get an offer; $7.75 for 3.6mi completion distance. A) That's 3.6 to restaurant + another 3.6 back to stage area. B) 🚗 63c/mi x 8 = $4.96 ($5) C) 🚶25c x 16min drive $4 Right now you're at $9 (🚫$7.75) D) 🚶33c x 16 drive $5.28 You're worth $10.28 (🚫 $7.75) E) Is it busy? Would a better run come along? Is there a "hidden tip"?

Accepted an order for a Mexican restaurant nearby because I'm friendly with the staff and it was $6.75 for 1.5 miles (in my market, $6.75 is the number where there could be a hidden tip). So I got to the restaurant, said my hellos, and realized the order included a 10 oz. margarita, which was not noticed by DoorDash. I know it flew under their radar because I didn't get 400 various texts and block screens warning me of deactivation, evisceration, and decapitation if I failed to properly check and document the customer's ID. I was standing in the restaurant alongside another dasher working it out aloud: "That means there's no way to scan their ID, which means that if I continue this order, I could be deactivated and possibly assassinated by DoorDash ninjas." I unassigned in front of the restaurant staff and left without the food, then called DD customer support while en route to my next pickup to make them aware of the alcohol in that last order, because life is too short to always be looking over your shoulder for ninjas.

@@sillystuntsplantboutique I don't have a problem delivering alcohol, as long as it properly goes through the app and there's a way for me to scan their ID to prove that it's being delivered to the correct customer and they're of legal age. The problem was that it showed up as a part of a regular food order, which meant there would be no way to verify that I followed the law.

"deactivation, evisceration, and decapitation" "possibly assassinated by DoorDash ninjas" 🤣🤣 very wise choice, though, given the legalities. in addition to having no way of proving your lawful obedience (obviously the bigger issue), the customer would likely have complained to you for not being warned by the app that they'd be ID'd. having worked a gas station, I know just how pissy customers can get when they're not expecting to be ID'd...

I would say the one advantage to dashing in grey/not busy areas is that you are able to get ahead of others when that area becomes busy. You of course have to learn your market to know the times to be able to do this but this will help you get more orders when it first becomes busy until of course more dashers begin to dash due to it becoming busy. I understand historical hotspots to only show up as such because the area is grey/not busy. The only time these show up in my area is during weekday breakfast times. I also noticed in my area that when it's very busy it's not as important to be close to the dynamic hotspots but when it's busy and especially steady it's important to be in the dynamic hotspot area or an order might not be sent to you at all. I especially appreciated your tips on the shop & deliver orders. I understand that grocery, retail and convenient store orders are all considered to be shop & deliver orders. The item count really is what matters as you mention. If an order has a high payout but also a high number of items sometimes I will accept it just to look @ the items and see if there are some items that have a larger quantity than 1. If there are a good number of items that do I might do it otherwise I will unassign the order. I only do this if my completion rate is high enough though.

I had a shop and pay on Uber and it takes about 33% longer at the same store than it takes on the DoorDash app. Door dash generally tells what isle or location each item is in the store, Uber does not. Now saying that the Uber shop and pay orders usually pay at least two times as much as the DoorDash orders at the same stores. I had one for 33 items in and it took a while and this was an Uber order. The customer gave me a $30 tip on top of the $17 delivery earning so it was well worth it.

I had a Grocery Run yesterday. Safeway for three deliveries and the store packed them. It was a bit of a process and taking some time in the store. Unfortunately I didn’t get to complete it because as I was trying to report the run as taking longer since they were still prepping the order when I got there. I hit the wrong button and cancelled the order. I was bummed because it was a $20+ order and the mileage was not bad between the three drop off locations. That was my first grocery run but hopefully I get another one soon.

Central Pa here and I don’t have any of these features on DD. I update the app weekly. I fell into high acceptance (I surmise) by not declining orders just letting them time out. Two weeks later I see I am eligible for high pay orders. They came in as shops(which I hate to do, time wasters) and/or low dollar to mile ratio with maybe an extra $1 for the whole order not per mile.

Ive noticed that when you accept an add on order to one youve already picked up ...a page pops up asking if you want to unassign the add on order (like if its past the pick up time or taking a long time) without your completion rate being affected. Ive seen it a few times but chose to wait and the order being done fairly soon after that. It could be a good thing if a restaurant is really slow.

I've done several Grocery pickup and shop and pay from jewel osco, The grocery pickup and delivery has some good tips not all the orders but when I see a total of $300-400 in groceries I expect at least a $10 tip, Shop and pay can be a pain in the back so check for items and calculate how much time it will take it to shop, always add 10 minutes on top of that time in case costumer isn't responsive or there is a long line, $15 shop and deliver done in 30 minutes it's worth, that'll put you in the $25+ per hour ratio if your zone is busy.

it'll depend on your market and order density, but... generally you want pickups and dropoffs to be in similar directions, ideally located so that they almost feel like you're moving along step-by-step and each app sees something resembling progress. if you have to deviate too much from a particular compass direction or double-back at all, you're likely to delay a pickup or delivery enough to seem unreasonable to a customer (or a service in the case of DD & GH, which both consistently have deadlines). the best situation is when you're in a "powerstrip" with several tightly-located pickups where their dropoffs go along roughly the same extended route. this allows you to mark merchant-arrived in DD & GH and bounce around pickups when 1 or 2 aren't quite ready. then, you just have to pay attention to dropoff locations and deadlines to plan the most efficient route that will avoid app violations in DD & GH. a big rule-of-thumb: if you hesitate to accept because you're not sure you'll achieve pickup or delivery in a reasonable timeframe... usually best to decline it. you'll get the hang of it over time and develop better gut-feelings. I've had almost 10 times since last summer when I effectively managed 5-6 orders at a time, with 2-3 pickups at single merchant(s)... but it's an advanced move, takes practice & market knowledge, and I only do that when I get VERY lucky with the offered locations (basically, just about everything is right along each others' routes, and I don't expect notable merchant waits).

@@philliphyde3950 Now that interests me. Other than knowing they do Walmart orders I know nothing about Spark. I need to do homework. I'm just doing Doordash and Ubereats as far as apps goes. Instacart has a waiting list here. I didn't f with GrubHub right or wrong and their blocks etc. Maybe Spark is what I need to try next.

They have been stacking shop and deliver orders with coffee and food orders the past couple weeks. I had to unassign a couple orders because I didn't want to make the other customers ice cream melted or food not hot. Bite the bullet for your food customer if they stack like that. Also they have been sending $7 dollar orders for 44 items at albertsons and safeway... Would love to hear you recent experiences?
@jeffreynelson4149

PS there is a I don't have a red card option when it ask you to shop. You can hit that and unassign if you make the mistake on a stacked order. It drops you completion rate by 1% but you can recover that fast. Better then shopping for 44 item for $7 dollars lol...

Def matters but if you're in a super busy market you won't notice it as much. The algorithms give priority to those with higher acceptance they cant deactivate you so, it's the only defence they have against drivers with low acceptance rates. I cannot believe there are people still going around saying acceptance rate doesn't matter. Of course it does

Here in Ohio it's called Commercial Insurance. It's more like a rider policy on your regular insurance basically stating that your insured vehicle is used for business purposes as well as personal. However unlike regular insurance, they'll cover you in an accident while you are dashing instead of denying your claim.

@wavion2

The high-paying order thing is absolutely not worth it. Those orders make up like 10-25% and you have to accept a bunch of absolute garbage orders to maintain your acceptance rate. And if you pause your dash to move into a better area, soon as you resume you will be hit with a chain of all the garbage orders the other dashers have declined. I would work like 3 hours taking mediocre orders to raise my acceptance rate only to have it undone in a few seconds by a chain of garbage orders that I just couldn't accept ($4, 1 item, 27 miles f*ck you!)

there's no such thing as a "side hussle" if it's so great then you'd make it your main business, and if it's not worth making it your main business, then it's not worth working. if you main job is so bad you need " extra " money , there's no such thing as "extra" money, then you should make the "side" job your main job. there's no reason to need to work multiple jobs, if you can't make it off of one, then your quality of life will be low. if you need both then you need to re examine your spending habits or increase ones income.

DD was only profitable during the pandemic. The pandemic is over and people have no reason to use DD as they did when things were locked down. Why would anyone want to pay a delivery fee and tip that cost more than cost of the food just to have a happy meal delivered? DD was easy money while it lasted.
