Today was my first day driving for DoorDash. That's right, I became a Dasher! Being a driver for DoorDash is different than driving passengers around for Uber or Lyft. I used both of those ridesharing apps to make extra income but people just disrespected my car and time. That is the main reason I decided to change gears and try to become a courier or specialize in food delivery.
In this video I explain my first day impression working with DoorDash. I definitely had a rough start but overall, I have a very positive attitude on the future. I worked about 4 hours with 5 deliveries under my belt which made me $40.75. Of course I had a couple issues that slowed down my income and with such an early start in the morning, I was pretty much on the clock for nothing. Next time I will be sure to start a little later in the day in order to maximize my efficiency.
Thank you everyone for watching and I wish you the best of luck with DoorDash if you decide to try it out!

Con artist. Getting paid to flood the market. DoorDash has more "independent contractors" than most companies have employees. Why? Because for every 1 order that is placed, there are 25 drivers currently dashing within a 2 mile radius. All are desperately seeking work and being victimized by a company that intentionally floods the market just because they don't have to classify drivers as employees.

Doordash is making a mistake by getting the couriers too involved in what the customers are ordering. What the customers order is NOT of the concern of the driver. That should be something only between the restaurant and the customer. A courier should be able to walk into the restaurant, grab the food without any issue, and deliver it. If there are issues then the restaurant makes contact with the customer while the driver waits. All wait times should be compensated by Door Dash as TIME IS MONEY. Based on what I've seen Door Dash has many flaws.

Adam Kostas Are there any other companies you work for? I have been hearing a lot of negativity about doordash. It's scaring me. I may sign up to work for Uber Eats or Bite Squad but I'm going to give DoorDash a go. I'm waiting for my red card to come and have to get my car tuned up at the shop and then I will be able to start.

All these "hiccups" should solely be between the customer and the restaurant ALONE - the driver shouldn't be involved except to pickup and deliver. Period.
@jamijedlicka3493

you are NOT a driver, you are a delivery driver. Your responsibility is to DELIVER their order and everything they are supposed to have. Wrong orders are not your responsibility, but doing your best to make sure you have everything you are supposed to have is and very well is your job and responsibility within your means to do so. How would you feel if you were the customer and your driver didn't care to make sure they picked up everything they were supposed to? Yeah if you order a burger without pickles and it comes with pickles you wouldn't blame the driver, but if you got a drink and they didn't grab it or they didn't bring you utensils to be able to eat if required, and you don't have any utensils available, how the heck do they eat it? That is avoidable and extremely frustrating, when all it takes is a minute to verify you have what you should. While the restaurant would be in part to blame, if it was something can easily see is missing, then you are fully to blame too. Plus some of the restaurants don't realize you are just a driver, typically the ones you have to place order at, and you are just another customer filling your own needs of utensils and condiments as needed. Yes, I am a driver, not just a customer, but I would be upset if I had someone as a driver who felt so lazy and incompetent as that with no consideration to me as a customer. I treat every order and customer as if I was grabbing an order for my own family, with the exception of not actually opening food to make sure it was made right as that would be unsanitary when it is not my own and against company policy.

i just signed up to become a dasher so im waiting on everything to arrive. I've been watching a lot of video reviews from drivers. Most of them have said the best times is like lunch and dinner. I mean 8am is pretty early and you have to think about what restaurants are actually open that early for people to order food from. im excited to start my journey, but i am a little nervous about the people in the restaurant not having stuff together or late responses from customers but this video really helped!
@DailyPayBootcamp
@DailyPayBootcamp 6 жыл бұрын
Xquisite Life - congratulations on joining the DoorDash family! Yes lunch and dinner are much better for sure. Not every place will be slow but it does happen. If you notice certain places that are always slow or mess up the orders, decline orders for those places if you want. When you are first starting out I suggest to take every call that comes in to get your feet wet. After you have been doing it for awhile, you can then be a bit more selective. Stay safe and happy driving.

I do agree with this, though I don't agree with the people saying they shouldn't have to make sure they have everything. I know the companies are trying to find a way to work with merchants and want to offer more options for customers to choose from that may not be set up yet to just order from online and pick up. It's a way they can reach a larger merchant base, but ordering really isn't something a delivery driver should be doing. I guess the way they have it working in that respect, we are more like personal assistants rather than delivery drivers.

Parking can be a headache but i use loading docks at big buildings with my hazard lights on, i use hazard lights a lot and i acquired a magnetic dd sign but always prop it up inside my car window when i leave my car; sometimes customers will come to the car if you let them know your pkg issue they like to get outside. I make sure i always put red card in its place my phone holder even though i screwed up yesterday left it on a cafe counter but the mgr saved it for me i called right away but it is the first thing i do when i pay for food even before signing receipt i put red card back in it's designated place.

Yes you have to have a strategy for a lot of things that work for you including gas needs, time and locations to drive. I used to do downtown good money there but traffic is crazy roads and parking are bad. Gas i dont always fill my tank because i cant and i want to see how i use it sometimes when i drop off an order i will sit not far from there for a little while before driving back to hotspot i did this as a lyft driver also. I also will get gas when i end my day so i dont have to do it in the beginning of my next day. I also call customers to ask the name of bldg or complex or next door landmarks which is easier to see before an address number if they dont list it on notes because gps is screwed up sometimes also dont use gps if you know where you are going it saves your charge usage on your phone. I also schedule days in advance and adjust it later if i need to. Driving down hills i dont use my gas just coast saves gas a little.

would get annoying calling over every little thing. Text is more efficient and I've had some that calls don't go through or they don't answer(as a lot of people won't answer a number they aren't familiar with). I text if it's something small and easy to answer. I call if it's something that might need a more detailed explanation, like navigating apartment complex or directions on a food order are confusing.

You definitely encountered more than a fair share of issues that day. If you do find yourself in a situation at a restaurant where they need to replace something, you can reach out to support and ask them if they will compensate you for your wait. 9 times out of 10 they will. Then at least you won't be losing money waiting for them to make the replacement item.

Congratulations on your new journey! I have never worked in that area but I do see that it's busy quite a bit. I would start off in an area you are familiar with in order to make things easier on you. Apartments can be difficult, so try to locate the map at the entrance or you will waste time trying to locate the unit. Time is money! Good luck to you.

I started doing DD last Friday and was getting orders back to back. However, since this is the week of 4th of July, orders have been really slow! Which does not make any sense giving that they are offering an extra $2.00 delivery in my area, however, since I'm not getting any orders which, you don't get that peak pay! Can anybody explain this? Is it always slow during the week of the holidays? The area I'm in is a good area, nothing but fast food places but if things don't get better, I may not any do DD anymore. You don't make money waiting around for orders.

Lawanna Williams - I feel your pain. I did another video talking about just that. I feel like they give orders to people that aren’t receiving the bonus pay first. Holidays seem busy here in Phoenix but I guess it just depends on the location and times working. I agree, there is no money in waiting around. Try different days and times before giving up. Maybe it was just a fluke. Best of luck to you and drive safe.

Hey Mike. Great video! Thank you for the information, I do have a few questions if you don't mind answering them. 1) I can't drive for Uber / Lyft because I have a 2DR Civic. Does Door Dash also require a 4DR vehicle? I would also assume clean driving record, up to date tags, current proof of insurance etc as well? 2) If you don't mind me asking, what is the base rate of pay? Is it a flat rate + tips? Can you work as much as you'd like, or, is it capped off at a certain point? 3) If I use your promo code, wanna split it? 🤣
@DailyPayBootcamp
@DailyPayBootcamp 6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Ngo - They don’t care what vehicle you drive but you do need current tags and insurance. You usually have to visit a location for an orientation where they will give you everything you need to start. You also need to pass a background check. There is no base pay because there are different criteria each delivery has to meet. Depends on size of order, distance, etc. Sometimes DoorDash runs bonus pay to get you out the door to drive which I have seen anywhere from $1 to $4 extra per delivery. I make about $16 to $18 an hour. Hey, I would split the promo if you sign up and complete the promo as required. That may differ from city to city but I would share. 😉

@@traceyjones2010 Not only that but DD makes you jump trough hoops in order for you to be able to instant payout your own money. Postmates doesn't do all that. I can't tell you a single time I've ordered from Dominos and actually got what I ordered, or they didn't forget a drink, a condiment SOMETHING!! I'm wondering if these services are different? And I'm just very nervous because I'm starting door dash next week, but this video actually made a little more nervous lol

It can happen like anything else but I can speak from experience. I have ordered plenty of times but only had one mess up so far and it wasn’t really a big deal. If it’s a restaurant that is contracted with DoorDash, the driver doesn’t place the order, they only deliver it. If it’s wrong, the chances are it’s the restaurant. Drivers should be double checking but sometimes the restaurants will “seal” the bag of food and we can’t verify other than asking. Give it a chance Simone and try it at least once.

I deliver for DoorDash and Postmates. They all have their pros and cons. I tried UberEats but their site gives me too many problems trying to sign up for driver, but I have talked to Uber Eats drivers. UberEats, plus is there is no pay card, it is all pick up and go, downside is if it is not ready you don't get paid to wait. I don't know how easy their app is to use for drivers though yet. DoorDash has red card, but I've had very few places so far to have to actually order, but I did have one place today that was a 30 minute wait for pickup and you don't get paid to wait. A downside for DoorDash but most places you have to order are usually fast food, but this one was a Chinese restaurant. Luckily, I think the customer knew the trouble it would be and left a decent tip. However, their app is not very user friendly and gets very impatient asking for status before you even get parked a lot just because you are close and such. It also has ratings that require you to have certain stats to take on some types of orders and have to have 4.8 customer rating which I think is stupid because perhaps something is the fault of the restaurant, but since your the go between that negativity can affect you instead. We are supposed to make sure everything is there but not allowed to tamper with the packaging to be able to check. Makes no sense. But I do like that DoorDash tells you when you are not in a busy area and gives you the closest hotspot to likely get a new order fairly quick. Postmates I think is newer and getting more established, so orders can sometimes be a long time coming. Best to use during peak times. Weekends stay pretty steady usually for orders if you go to area you know get orders from frequently. But sometimes I can be in a "busy" area for hours and won't give me an order on a weekday. That's where I like DoorDash's system better for knowing where to be to get orders faster. .The upside to PostMates app is it is very simple and user friendly. I like being able to see the breakdown for each delivery. DoorDash will show you breakdown at end of order but then it's gone and it's all grouped together. You don't know when or what orders may be tipping you later or what you got, unless I am missing the option, but I tried looking everywhere I could think of. Postmates also pay you for waiting, even though it's not much, it's something the others don't do. A downside to Postmates is they use a cardboard like card instead of plastic that seems to have a hard time working with some merchants. Sonic and Starbucks couldn't get it to work at all. Some others it will after multiple tries, like Cane's. So, I never know if I will be wasting gas and time to have to cancel an order due to inability to pay if it requires it. It has only been impossible those 2 places so far though. Also, Postmates does not have live assistance and there are times the problem is not listed in auto help option. Like inability to reach an address, because we have a Air Force base in our town and customers try to put in their address on base that we are not allowed into unless happen to be in an Air Force household ourselves. So, we cannot click to finish order because you have to be at address and then they get onto you for delivering it to them at a different address off base. DoorDash does have live assistance. Maybe Postmates will at some point. Insurance comparisons. DoorDash offers discounted assistance in finding medical insurance and such, but do not offer any themselves. As of this month, Postmates does not offer normal medical insurance, but they do insure you if something happens from pickup to delivery, paying medical bills and 2 years of short term disability and up to 5 years long term disability should the need arise. They will also help up to a certain amount in vehicle damage repairs if normal insurance does not cover everything, but you must be insured at minimum coverage for your state or you forfeit the help. Favor is another one, but I am not familiar with them yet either.
@jamijedlicka3493
@jamijedlicka3493 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, Postmates gives you a hot/cold bag for free too, and their stuff is cheaper to buy than DoorDash, but DoorDash has a bigger hot/cold container available also for things like pizzas and larger items. DoorDash does not give you any for free though, you have to buy from them or get one of your own from a store. DoorDash is not required to be on delivery bags. Postmates has a 6 cup sturdy plastic cup holder also, which can come in handy. Had an order today with 3 large drinks and the bottom collapsed from restaurant drink holder, another one with 2 medium drinks and it started to tear apart. I managed to handle the problems well enough, but something to consider if making it a full-time job.
