A few years ago, we didn't have hundreds of YT and TikTok channels showing customers they were over-tipping because those who don't tip are still going to get their food. I thought I tipped what the average person did for a 2-5 miles away order -- $15-18 dollars was my usual tip. Now, I can see that I could have tipped $5-7 and been a high paying order. I really do think that's a big part of why tips have decreased for most drivers.

@@B_Bodziak see now I would think that if anything people thought that the platform paid drivers more and that a tip was gravy. I never thought about what a delivery driver made. I just gave a good tip. But had I not been raised by a generous tipper (well 50% but he would add money to the table after she had started walking towards the door so I ended up doing similar when my husband would pay 😂 he was an OK tipper but nothing great) but I don’t think customers understand that even if they think they’re gonna throw the driver with a cash tip and they will but they first have to get there.. and I don’t think people realize low or no tips, especially for a good distance makes the order take a lot longer to be picked up by somebody usually somebody who just started. I’m sure i hit accept on everything they gave me the first day. So I would think saying that it’s only two dollar base pay 99% of orders, that people would realize between that and however, far away they are from where they’re ordering that they should actually be tipping more in most cases.

@@B_Bodziak The problem is tipping is scam DD uses to pay drivers nothing....The truth is IMO very few customers who don't tip or tip poorly understand what they are doing. They they have no idea what DD pays and tipping delivery drivers is not the norm in most life. You don't tip the Mailman, UPS, FedEx or Amazon why would they tip you? DD knows if they eliminated tipping and charged customers what deliveries cost or made customers aware of how little a delivery pays with no tip more people would not order from DD than would pay more. Yes the bad economy is a big factor, but DD keeping customers ignorant is the true cause.... Aside from quitting DD (probably the best option for most) the only solution I see is education. I recommend printing up labels thanking customers for their tips and putting them on every delivery. The labels should point out DD's base pay is only 2 dollars which after fuel and vehicle expenses makes your tip critical to my making a living as your delivery driver. The labels will serve to educate customers as to the true cost of the service they are employing, reward customers who tip and shame those who do not.

@@Max-hv8qythere with a way to judge what someone makes. DD is so market dependent. I make decent money in Tampa, but when I went to West Virginia (Marshall University) for a year, the money was very differnt . Once I learned the area, a good day was $80-$100, with the weekend being able to hit $150 if you worked late, like until midnight. The area was oversaturated for breakfast and lunch, and it was dead until after 5. It’s just hard to judge what anyone makes unless you are in that market.

The $.67 cents a mile they let you deduct for vehicle expenses are actual expense you will pay one way or another lowering your actual pay for your 10 hour day to maybe $50....Even if you happen to have a miracle car that doesn't wear or depreciate or require insurance your still only making only $13 an hour with no overtime or benefits in 2024... Virtually any W2 job these days is paying $20 an hour or higher which because W2 employers pay 1/2 your employment tax means a W2 job paying $20 is the equivalent of a 1099 job paying $21.40. A side note...It was calculated in 2020 Panhandles made an average of $10 an hour. plus they had no overhead and paid no taxes...I wonder how many Dashers could get pay bump by quitting DD and taking up panhandling?

I do day trading and Doodash stocks go down every day. they can't grow anymore this is all the customers they can have. This is it there will be no more customers. To show growing profits they must lower the driver's pay. but they will run into a brick wall soon.

Yep. Their market is capped unless they're opening up more rural areas or increase the percentages the restaurants give them on each order. Since restaurant prices have risen, DD gets more money from them, but there's no growth potential in metro areas and other places where the population per square mile is high because DD already services those. Now, if UE bought DD, UE would have little competition in many areas and could demand higher percentages from restaurants.

I've signed up for other app jobs, but nobody is adding new drivers. I hope that will change come Aug/Sept when college students are back in school and teachers are back in school and the need is there. In the meantime, I worked two hours tonight and only took one DD offer. The rest were mostly trashy double stacks going miles and miles away for not enough pay. Luckily, GH stepped up and got me some extra $$ and lunch was pretty good, too.

They mess around when you're at 70%😂 I dropped to 69% and it took me 12 orders to hit 70%. A few of those 12 were stacked. I told them and they said it's the algorithm. I said to them I want a print out. I've never rejected 12 trips in a row in my life. So how come they can't produce a list of my last 100 accepts and rejects? It just depends on how many lifetime orders you have done. Like it have 6000 so if I reject one and my AR drops below 70% then I lose my platinum status and it takes Hella lot of orders to reach 70% again. So basically I don't reject much at all anymore. There are plenty places cities and states that are making good money and then you have trash markets that don’t and those trash markets people can’t give advice from those markets saying that’s what everyone is making. I make 3-7 bucks per mile on my orders so it’s just people not accepting the fact that they drive or live in a trash market or there is not enough doordash deliveries to pay out like that…expectations are way too high in some markets..if your average order is a dollar per mile or even less then that’s what it is and that’s why you don’t accept cause you wanting a 3-5 dollar per mile order that will never really come or is extremely rare and at that point what’s the point of even dashing with doordash

The rest of the country needs to do what's happening in southeast Florida. All the dashers have signed or signing up with "Deliver That". When they have to pick up door dash food orders they tell that merchant to only use deliver that for all catering. They tell them DD drivers are not trained for catering, and that only the DD platinum level drivers are hired by Deliver That. I guess if DD doesn't pay? They're going to pay!

He didn't see anything wrong with filming inside Starbucks, but their policy is no videography inside their stores. Chuck basically told them to ef off and told the manager anytime he gets Starbucks orders he was coming in with his camera filming. He even added that if she didn't like it, she should tell DD to ban him from doing Starbucks orders. She did, and DD banned him from Starbucks and everywhere else. I like him, but I've commented several times that he should stop using the last names of customers when he leaves the order and takes a photo because that's going to get him banned from Spark. He doesn't see what the harm is and keeps doing it. I even told him that in the ToS, Spark/Walmart specifically prohibits drivers from publicly posting any footage of any part of a spark orders... And he even includes the last names in his. On his last video several of us told him he should not have posted video of the kids from inside a private daycare because it could get him in trouble. His response was he didn't see the harm in it. He's hard-headed and it's going to be his downfall. He's a nice guy and I don't want to see him deactivated, but he's doing it to himself.

I been doing that for 6 months. Already 2/3 of my income is private. I offer $5 flat rate delivery, and I only pick up and deliver in a small area. Average trip is under 2 miles. Some customers tip, but I don't need that to make good money. I also offer 100% free delivery from certain restaurants. I buy gift cards from Costco at 25% off with a 5% cash back credit card. Customer orders $100 worth of food and send me $100. I pay for the food with a gift card that cost me $70. Deliver for free and keep $30 in profit. These customers almost always tip, and it usually takes 3 customers to spend $100. Same short trip, but I profit $15 per.
