Doug and Ashley you make jobs around the house so easy. I feel bad for women who expect the same from their spouses and become greatly disappointed only to find they are not so handy. You can check it off your list of things that need to be done. You can move onto other things. Things you enjoy. Thats why i enjoy watching your channel. You enjoy making a home for your family the way you want it done. I always look foward to your next video as always. Keep it up you two. I understand how you feel about doing finish carpentry. However, having observed your work for a few years now - please don't worry. You are careful, slow, and patient, That is the key to doing finish carpentry. It can't be done in a rush and your concern for perfection will cause you to do it right. And remember - it can be done over. It is just a door or ?? Not that it doesn't cost a lot of money but it is something replaceable. I appreciate your caution and anxiety but you are doing great. Everything that you have done is beautiful. Listen to your friends. Be safe. Love

I think the doors are going to look great. I have yet to see one thing that you and Ashley do that doesn't turn out beautifully. I was just remembering my dad building his own double door garage door and remembering the time and effort he put into that and time consuming + .........he used it for so so many years and when he passed and new people bought the home and tore it down it broke my heart as I had watched him build that in his late 60's years of age. Your doors are going to be beautiful I know as all you do is and the most important and beautiful thing is you did it by hand. Your gift is the labor of loving to work with wood by hand and creating and the love of that makes all things that you do beautiful. Stain can be changed as can paint but the love and desire to please with your gift of craft can be replaced by no one. That gift belongs to you and Ashley and that is where the beauty lies in the "whole" of all you do. You are both very gifted and we who are creative are probably our own worst critics. I know they are going to be another work of art as only the two of you can do......together! Blessings............excited for the next episode! I pray all of you are feeling better. 🌴🌴🌴😊😊😊😊🌴🌴🌴

Just a tip, for what it’s worth, when boring a door knob hole, drill from one side until your pilot bit starts to come out the other side. Then drill from the other side. Prevents tear-out and makes it easy to get the wood back out of the hole saw.

I agree with you, Ashley!! It would make me very happy, to have nothing but sand in the yard! LOL!! Everytime I walked outside the front, side or back door, it would give me the feeling of having my own personal beach! Oh, I would LOVE to have the luxury of walking around the yard barefoot. There's nothing that would compare to the feeling of, soft warm sand going between your toes with every step, without having to worry about hurting or cutting your foot on something. But most importantly, being able to take mini vacations from working so hard. Right there at your fingertips, you can have fun and relax by having picnics in the yard, building sand castles with the kids, ride bikes and things like that. I'm sure y'all could think of a lot of fun things you can do as a family, without it breaking the bank. Besides the big bonus is, you won't have to worry about mowing the lawn ever again!! LOL!! So yes, my vote would always be for sand!! LOL!! Especially, if it's the stiff centipede grass, however, I know there are several other softer types of grass options available, but it's still sand for me. Thank you for sharing your progress on your home with us. Until next time, take care. Much Love and Hugs to you and your amazing family!!😊
@TheWynch2 жыл бұрын
We planted centipede grass in our yard in GA, it does grow in runners and it only takes a few roots to grow an acres worth. It will continue to grow in over a couple of years and you will get a woven carpet of grass. It is beautiful and withstands heat and drought very well. You may have to mow it once a year, but edging is a must because it will spread to your neighbors property. It is an expensive grass, we used to have people stop by and ask for plugs so they could grow their yards. Another nice thing is it chokes out weeds. The work you are doing is looking quite lovely and I can't wait to see you move on to the rest of your house.

I love the stops! Nice detail for a normally boring part of the door jam. You do really well with all the finishes you do, sorry you don't enjoy doing them. Heads up for a wood conditioner for stain. Pros use just plain water. It opens the pores a tiny bit and gives a wonderfully even coverage. Especially with the hard woods. Just a wet rag prior to staining. Your pine should be fine without it, but if you ever have to do stairs or something like that, try it. Have a great week!

Hi Doug & Ashley Doug Doing trim or finish work is tedious. So a lot of people don't enjoy it. I think you do a great job. If you and Ashley are happy. That's all that matters. I like that you used the trim for the door stops. It adds some character to the doors. That's an idea I would have probably used . I prefer making my own frames versus pre-hung . That glass door was a good idea, because the hall will be a lot lighter. You probably will leave the bedroom door open a lot of the time for better air circulation, but times it's closed your hall will still be bright. That ending proves what we know intuitively: If man can THINK it, he can DO it. 😊

Interesting for all those who think about doing things and are too afraid to start, and those who wonder why things do not turn out quite right. Door are easy. Biggest thing is to make sure you know how to measure for the door size you need. Then to make sure you don't need to repair the structure surrounding the door (especially the threshold/kick plate). Hanging is super simple. I use a 16 gauge finish nailer, to tack it into place. I use shims and construction strews at the latch point/s. And I use 2 4" construction screws in each door hinge of an exterior door. This provides strength but it also allows you to make micro adjustments by loosening or tightening the screws to allow for play to achieve the desired hanging height. Setting the lock plates is easily door is the door is hung. I have had to build my own door frames in customer homes due to the house being of older construction and odd sized door framing. It's easier to build your own door frame than it is to tear out a wall and re-frame it. That can open a can of worms.............. Love your channel. I too am renovating and repairing our recently bought property and house. It's fun to make things the way you want them. It's a ton of work. But it's so rewarding. Even if no one else notices it or sees it. You know it's there and you can be proud of what you did with your own two hands.
