@ou6775 if you're a cyclist, amateur or intermediate or pro obviously longer, in criteriums in a peloton as a domestique to get in 30 to 100 miles a day. If you're looking for power and growth, shorter intense training with weights and lots of rest.

@@adamgriffiths7796yep I remember reading in M&F dr Jeff Everson and Arnold totally attacking Mike and jones on the theory of hit and iv seen it first hand I followed Arnold’s 3 hour workouts 6 days a week and when I got to late 40s I found after my workout I needed at least 6 to 8 hrs rest to do my job of driving road trains in the Australian outback , and it really was unsustainable , so for 10 years I stopped weights and did only cardio riding 300 km per week , I found that after a fast 50 km ride I would sit for 30 min have a coffee and I was good to go , after 10 years and being quite lean I started feeling old cardio did that to me , when my lady died from a brain anurisim for a time I dealt with depression and a type of survivor guilt , and 13 months ago I said to myself when was I the happiest in my life apart from my time with Kath , and the answer was whe I was bodybuilding . And for the last 13 months I came back to training using mikes hit method , firstly after no weight training for 10 years I couldn’t belive how weak I had gotten , but using hit I train 4 days a week and my recovery is almost as fast as cardio and I’m hitting high weights for a 59 year old , I shoulder press 130kg bench 140 kg arm curl straight bar 65kg and leg press 480kg , I can’t really do squats anymore because a road bike accident has left me with a slightly twisted pelvis and a leg point 5 of a centimetre shorter , can’t notice it but after squats I have a serious 4 or 5 day back ache , now as we use kilos in Australia you need to times those weights by 2.2 to get the lbs weight Americans use so 130 kg shoulder press is 286lb for 4 sets of 4 reps after warm up bench is 308lbs for four sets of 5 and 146lb curls for 4 sets of 5 . Also I have put on over 15kg of muscle in 13 months clean as my test levels at 57 were to high to go on trt . This is because I only ever did one course in my 20s whereas all my mates were on trt from the age of 35 . In my case nothing comes even close to unlocking the genetic potential in weight training that hit does I wish I didn’t listen to the muscle and fitness bullshit by Everson and Arnold which is complete rubbish

People always tend to think in extremes. Duality is an easy concept to grasp for the human mind. But the truth is: There's no need to do single RPE10 sets on the one extreme side of the spectrum or 2 hour workouts on the other. As long as you focus on progressive overload, balanced nutrition, and proper rest, you will get bigger and stronger. The split plays a minor role.

@Sharkenite
@Sharkenite 6 ай бұрын
@@kanethesevenfootmonster868 He said Time Efficiency not Efficiency itself. Time Efficiency and Progression are not the same thing. Progression and Efficiency aren't even the same thing. Progression is the *advancement* of an objective, action or a goal. Efficiency is the state of *quality* of an objective, action or a goal. For example: You can get *two* guys who can both deadlift, same weight, same height ok? Both guys can let's say, deadlift, 400+ weight. However, *one* of the guys does the reps clean, control form, perfect technique while the other guy does it with poor technique, unstable and is hyperflexing his spine. They both got the weight up, but one did it with *efficient* technique while the other one did it with poor technique. The guy who deadlifted with improper technique is gonna have a hard time with progression for his deadlifts due to his inefficient form while the other guy who deadlifts with efficient form, will have the best progression out of the two because of his adequate efficiency. Once again, progression is the state of advancement, or on video game terms, leveling up, efficiency is the state of quality or how good something is. You can have 2 guys on steroids who have both progression in bodybuilding and BOTH of the men are having progression due to steroids, BUT 1 of the guys is performing his workouts with proper efficiency while the other is just winging it. There are multiple guys online who have taken steroids who made some progression without having efficiency in the gym and look like absolute dog doodoo while people who give absolute efficiency in every exercise they do in the gym, have the best progression. You can still have progression in something without it being efficient at all. People pick heavy crap up all the time, might get stronger from picking up stuff but with improper form, it won't ever be efficient and that's how so many people throw out their backs. Progression and Efficiency do not mean the exact same thing, but they do however compliment each other very well. Basically apples and oranges. Make sense?

I am a hard gainer. I was born skinny. I have been training like the normal bodybuilder 12 sets or so pretty intense and lots of calories 4200 calories. Although I am extremely active tennis golf beach volleyball and flag football still. Extremely high metabolism. I've been reading about Arthur Jones who created this philosophy and then Mike mentzer brought it into the bodybuilding world and Dorian Yates won for Mr Olympia's in this high intensity training 30 to 40 minutes per work out one set per movement. Total failure for the contraction and static and the negative. I adopted this philosophy 4 months ago and my gains have been great. I'm 59 years of age and they're better now than the traditional 12 sets per body part. The proof is in the performance/results.

I don't care what anyone says, some of the greatest bodybuilders in the world trained high volume. You can definitely be in the gym for an hour and a half to 2 hours and train high volume and intense at the same time. I've done this my whole life and I have just recently started trying low volume high frequency. It's sprinting is not even close to the same thing as What we do in bodybuilding. We have rest sets We have time between each exercise. We have water breaks. Extremely bad analogy. Yes, You do have a drop off at some point but that drop off does it go from 100% effort to 50% effort or 100% effort to 80% effort. I do not feel that I'm sacrificing even 1% effort with doing 20 sets for chest in one session, But of course I'm a trained individual. Obviously someone not very experienced would not be able to handle this. But this is ridiculous to say knowing how many bodybuilders have built their physics off of extremely high volume.

Intensity is the equalizer, high volume or low the intensity must be there or gains don't exist. If you do 20 sets and your body responds better you must also do an all out set to fail or close for each station you are on . Just doing 6 sets a week with low reps will not build muscle. Even Dorian and Mike did 12- 15 sets which is mid range volume

The main problem with volume training, is multiples sets can’t maintain high intensity without overtraining. But more importantly, repeat sets are overkill. Intensity is the only growth trigger. Think of training as units of work not sets and reps. You could do 3 sets/reps in a row, and that’s one unit of work for the muscle. If you do it with sufficient intensity it’s enough till next training session.

This is a faulty comparison, though. You can't sprint or workout intensely for a prolonged period of time *WITHOUT BREAKS*. But you do take breaks inbetween sprinting intervals, and you do take breaks inbetween sets. You can hit everything with intensity if you're dedicated to your work. I do agree that spending to much time in a single session leads to worse effort, though.

Mike also proposed the idea that working out is not about stamina which sprinting is. You're contradicting his principles.

Thats why my workouts last around 30 mins. I go super hard until i cant anymore. So far, it works great! However, i am still curious. Should i workout once or twice in a day? On the days i workout, i just workout once for 30 mins or so, but should i workout again later or are those 30 mins enough for today?

Interesting that ppl form misinformation about Mentzer but if look at the short Yates is talking about Mentzers theory on intensity in which Dorian built on and was a humble thinker as well. As for all the claims about Mike's passing if you did any research that would tell you the family had congenital predisposition from cardiac heart problems in fact their father Harry Mentzer also died prematurely of cardiac problems. But your free to have your opinions on someone that can't defend himself not that he would waste his time and intelligence anyway.

I used to work 5 - 6 times a week but after few injuries & stagnant results, I realized that was way too much load for me. Besides, I was not on any PED routines plus doing workouts with a full-time job plus other commitments. Now I only train 2 - 3 days per week, short, focused & intense workouts, and it has given me good results plus with ample reset, no injuries & working out has not become a torture to the body.

You can sprint for quite a while if you rest between short sets of sprinting and also you do other exercises in a workout not just the same thing like sprinting so you use different muscles the low set philosophy is just old and flawed

This isn't rational logic. When you train you do sets so you have rest periods in between just like if you're doing sprinting training you're sprinting for a certain distance and then resting before doing it again. Also sprinting is more exhausting than training since you'll have higher max heartrates during sprinting and also hit cardiovascular failure vs specific failure of muscles

@Bruce-fq3ho There is no fkn point. No human who isnt fked on gear can get a proper workout following these rules. Dorian says workout for 45min ok..... Mike says warm up for 5-10 min. He said do 2 max all out sets but HE STILL DID WARM/pyramid UP SETS HITARDS just ignore that he did those but didnt count them.... If you have actually trained to failure you know that you need like 4 min rest between each sets any less no way you actually trained to failure. So unless you plan on doing 1 fkn exercise good luck making 45min. Mike advocated for 3 exercise per workout at least sometimes doing a drop set sometimes not. Impossible to do that in 45min.
