I love this woman, she played the role of Marie Barone like no one else could... There will never be another show like Everybody Loves Raymond for me. The characters were so believable and likable for the most part.

There was that one scene in the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Robert had applied for a job with the FBI and Marie went down to talk to the interviewer. She switched from comedy to high drama then back to comedy so perfectly. I had tears in my eyes. Her performance was pure brilliance.

They repeated it this morning (9 November 2020) on British TV. I have seen it many times repeated on TV (plus I have the DVD box set) & Doris's switch from comedy to drama ALWAYS brings a tear to my eye...it is a MASTERCLASS of truly great acting. So thrilled she won the Emmy & it was presented by Malcolm in the Middle! My 2nd favourite American TV comedy series (after Everybody Loves Raymond)

In a genre which is otherwise often confused with exaggerated hamming and slapstick humor, Doris Roberts in her portrayal as Marie Barone brought a quality of natural candor to her role. I am happy to see a lady like her celebrate her victory as a doyen of small screen, but Peter Boyle's support in standing up for her, and yet not wanting to push his way to hug her to earn some screentime at an awards night shows the kind of dignity and self- respect actors of that generation possessed. Rest in peace Doris and Peter, they don't make actors like you anymore.

@pokergalpoker8 жыл бұрын
+Mikey Trahant you might be right!!!
@Claude-Eckel5 жыл бұрын
@pokergalpoker Hahaha... You know neither her correct date of birth nor her sense of humour, huh? First off, there are no Emmys on November 4, which was her birthday. The PT Emmy Awards usually air in September, around the 15th. They're broadcasted alternately by the big four, and when it's NBC's turn, then they're even moved to late August to not get in conflict with NBC's NFL stuff. So, a lie about her birthday? Secondly, if she had turned 71 that night, she would've been born in 1926 after your maths. But she's born in 1925, so it would've been 1996, not 7, if she had turned 71 that night, right? But there was no _'Everybody Loves Raymond'_ at the Emmys in 1996, since the pilot aired first on Sept 13 1996. So, if this was really her birthday that night and her birthday was on November 4th, which it definitely was, how come that the Emmys had not aired in September as usually but in November? Or was she joking also about her correct birthdate, just as she joked about her (alleged) age? Hmmm... here comes the sad part: The Emmy Awards back then had been rescheduled twice, all in all for 7 weeks... Any idea why? *Because of the 9/11-attacks in 2001* That's why - and that's why only - it was indeed her birthday that night, it was November 4 and thus in 2001, the sad exception when the Emmys had not been held in September but in November that year. End of story. See? She made only fun about her age. But you didn't get the joke, you just ran some wrong numbers and dates, not having enough knowledge about anything of it, not her birthdate, not the Emmys, not the TV show she won the Emmy for, nothing, but yet forming an opinion and posting it. That figures. How many thousand times have I had to read wisenheimer postings like this... Countless times! It's tiring. To all of you sciolism experts: Google Dunning-Kruger effect next time before you post something about anything trying to correct people who obviously know more about a subject than you do. Make sure you're educated *BEFORE* a posting, not thereafter! Try smarter, not harder. Do you know who got the joke? Just in case you came back here two years later: 1:36

Even if Doris Roberts passed away a few years ago, she will always be *is* one of the best television 📺 actress💃🏼🎭. She only won her first Primetime Emmy Award at 1983, at age 58. That's time when she finally struck it big like other big film 🎥📽️🎞️🎬 and television actors📺🎭 like Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Lan Mcshane, Margo Martindale, J. K Simmon and whatnot. In addition, she has a great amount of family members, including her son Michael Cannata, who was her manager. She also honored with a "Live Perfromance"🎭 star⭐ on Hollywood Walk of Fame for Live Theatre at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on February 10, 2003.
