I used to say that the warlocks are the most powerful class in World of Warcraft, specifically in my how powerful are warlocks video.
However with the recent changes I am not so sure anymore. So in this video I briefly cover warlock lore and explain how warlocks work and then I get into covering prominent warlock characters discussing who is the most powerful warlock in World of Warcraft.

Archimonde probably. Kil'jaeden have 2nd place in my opinion. They both are warlocks but Kil'jaeden specialising on manipulating and puppetry, while Archimonde on clear destruction and fel magic. Now do the most powerful shaman, I bet on Lei Shen

Gul'dan severed the Orc's connection to the elements, and in AU Draenor he was able to summon Archimonde into the world by his self. I'd say that is incredibly powerful.

The strongest living warlock right now. Aka alive has to be kanrethad ebonlocke. He is so powerful we had to drain his power aside from that he was also able to summon and control a pitlord on top of many other demons at once. In legion it took all six of the council of the black harvest to summon one pitlord and they failed to control it through 4 of them would have worked to control it. Kanrethad ebonlocke is most definitely in the area of a powerhouse

Sargeras is his own class. This man has Arcane energies, has Fel Magics, is a Melee badass, is immune to literally every fucking magic, has limitless connections to the Multiverse, and possibly the Shadowlands, can use the Light for manipulation, etc. So yeah, nah, this man ain't a singular class.

5:45 Meryl Felstorm is a Mage.. He's literally the head of the Mage order hall in Legion. He's the one that drives the story. Just because he has the word "Fel" in his name, doesn't mean he's a Warlock. His original name was Meryl Winterstorm. He was a human and was offered a position on the Council of Tirisfal. (You know. The council that governs the Guardians..) The only reason he changed his name to Felstorm was because he is possessed by a demon that he managed to get out of Valeera. He convinced the Demon to possess him instead, and was able to hold the demon at bay with his strong will. He changed his name to Felstorm as a reflection of his new corruption. He is definitely a Mage though. Not a Warlock.

To be fair, Meryl was so obviously conceptualized as a warlock. Before his appearance in the comics and in-game, he was a figurine that Blizz made named "Meryl Felstorm" garbed in a warlock set from Burning Crusade. The only reason he's been more mage than warlock in lore was because Blizz totally botched his story, took too long to get him possessed by a demon, and then didn't do anything with him after said possession.

what about Thal'kiel (the demo warlocks artefact weapon) -he was the teacher of archimonde pre Sageras, leader of the wakeners before archimonde -he planned to take controll over argus via summoning large amounts of demons -it took the three leaders (velen, archi and kil'jaeden) to take him down -his skull is used to enhance our ability to summon and command demons

Both Thal'kiel and Archimonde are Mages though. They both use Arcane magic. Thal'kiel taught Archimonde Arcane magic, not Fel magic. Sargeras hadn't made it to Argus by that point. Why he's the Warlock artifact is beyond me. I think they just ran out of ideas and stretched the lore.

@@Saimeren archimond overthrew Thalkiel when he began summoning demons to Argus. Your right this was pre Sargeras. It was Thalkiel that got Sargeras's attention through his major use of demon summoning. With the demons he summoned, he tried ro overthrow Velen and Kiljaedan. Archimond betrayed him before the attack tho, so Velan and Kiljaedan were able to prepair and catch him off guard, killing him.

Shadow is definitely weaker than hellfire (fel). There is a reason the voidlords (the most powerful manifestations of void) were jealous of the Great Dark Beyond.

You know, for Azshara being the most powerful mage on Azeroth as being more than 10,000 years old she had the most dissapointing boss fight in lore-terms. Jaina showed so much magical power and skill and it was absolutely awesome. Azshara just hit us with her stick and used arcane explosion once in a while... (I know this video was about warlocks but since mages were shown I just thought about this)

Unfortunately there aren’t too many lore characters that are warlocks, and so yea discounting the Eredar and other immortal demons that might be considered warlocks, Gul’dan is the obvious choice. Other powerful magic users in lore, even the evil ones, are still usually mages, like Azshara and Medivh (evil while possessed), or necromancers like Kel’Thuzad

In my own opinion, Kil'jaeden is the most powerful warlock, I like to also think that Archimonde is tied with him as equally as powerful as they both were the chosen right hand and left hand of Sargeras that infers equal standing in terms of their power scale and co-ruling rank in the legion after Sargeras himself.

The portal was meant to bring Sargeras spirit or portion of his Spirit to possess Illidan's body and players stopped that and restored Illidan's soul back to his body. basically, when Gul'dan took Illidan's body from warden he severed Illidan's soul and banished it to Helya realm and intended to use his body as a host for Sargeras to possess.

@@krivjeto You got my point though. He's not litterally stupid but his Ego made him do stupid stuff and led to his downfall. I personally believe KJ is above Archimonde. Usually the right hand is above the left Hand and KJ was the right hand of Sargeras which kind of proves my point. Archimonde was the Legion's army General. He was in a place where he could show off his power and be used to his strenght: Raw destructive power. If you only look at Destructive power then yes, Archimonde is probably stronger in that aspect of the game. Though, everything is not only about raw power. Strong guys have been outsmarted and lost to smarter guys in the past and not only in wow but in RL as well. If KJ was placed above Archimonde by Sargeras himself there's a reason for it... They had different roles but if they had to face each others, I'm sure KJ would outsmart him and beat him. BTW, KJ was not the corruptor but the deceiver. His strenght lies in manipulation, deception and seeing Archimonde's biggest weakness is his ego I bet you KJ would exploit that and win that duel anyday... Just like the old Dr Doom vs Galactus fight even though I believe KJ is much closer to Archimonde in Raw Power than Dr Doom ever Was to Galactus.

Archimonde is by far the strongest warlock in the lore. He would easily best Kil'jaeden in combat. Medivh would also pass as a warlock and is stronger than any other warlock mentioned.

Well, the blood elf Blood Mages represented by Kaelthas are literally the combination of a mage and a warlock. In regards to the strongest, i'd say Kaelthas in Tempest Keep probably. But Kaelthas was also great warrior. Thats the problem with hero characters. They can be more than one class. And often are. Illidan for example has probably more than enough magical knowledge about the Arcane and Fel to consider him a mage and warlock as well, next to him being a Demon Hunter. So i'd the strongest pure warlock was probably AU Gul'Dan in the Suramar raid. Cho'gall i wouldn't consider a warlock.

Think about it.. in Legion we wielded THE MOST powerful staff ever created "The Staff of Sargeras" which can literally rip apart the entire universe and here we were just using it to enhance our target practice skills xD. Not to mention the affliction staff was literally a conduit of power that absorbed the "masters" power into itself until you the player claim it and are the only warlock not to have ever wielded it to not be consumed. Then there's MF Thal'Kiel... It can be argued that the skull empowered the warlock to new heights of summoning capabilities and energized said demons as well.. plus it was fucking hilarious hearing that floating skull bitch and all the commentary was gold xD

The strongest mortal warlock is probably the warlock champion, not just because of artifacts, keep in mind that to get the artifact and use it you must already be an extremely powerful individual without it, the strongest or at least close to the strongest.

I would personally disagree that Kil’jaeden was the most powerful warlock. Not saying he was weak by any means but I think Archimonde was stronger as he showed more of his power by killing Malone, destroying Dalaran, etc. while Kil’jaeden was usually just being the tactician. I do not know why people neglect the fact that warlocks use not only fel and fire magic, but demonic (along with summoning demons can even turn into one), shadow and to the extent void magic (like in game voidwalkers and phantom singularity spell). Warlock is imo still the strongest lore-wise class because they draw for so many resources and there was lore-wise rarely a warlock who started off as a warlock, but was rather another spell caster before becoming a lock (like mages/priests/shamans) who in search for more power dabbled in dark arts becoming a warlock. I recently see an argument of shadow priests who emphasize void magic being contestant for a title of strongest class just because of use of void, which is imo ridiculous to me (I mean warlocks and mages utilize so many more forms of magic that imo shadow priests could not even hold a candle to those 2 classes so I would be always ranking them below both warlocks and mages power wise).

Well i consider Death knight the strongest,becouse that's a necromancy paladin.... whit power than exentd beyond life and death,why you need the void if you can tap into the unholy... And another bonus you just kill a warlock and resurect him as your servant xD Just like mages turn to warlocs,necromancers turns either to liches or to Dk's... depend of their prefered way and their own power level.I wonder about the next evolutuonary level,a lich knight but who knows... After all as immortals eventually one of them will reach it.And who knows we might have a new lich king?

Nice video dude ! allow me to disagree with one thing you said.....i dont believe that we defeated the legion easily.....i dont consider easy when varyan tirion and vol jin are dead.....its not easy when the entrire pantheon aids you to defeat argus plus to imprison sargeras and lets be honest if the pantheon wasnt there sargeras would have easily cleaved us and we propably have ended up in the sadowlands 1 expac earlier...but anyway my point is that it wasnt even near easy and not without help

Ner'zhul is not a warlock, THE LICH KING(not bitch boy Arthas) was just a shaman who happens to know void magic. pretty sure Medvih is the powerful warlock but then again he got that power thanks to Sargeras controlling him ever since he was a fetus.

Kill'jaeden never gave power to ner'zull.Ner'zull thought he can control a demon lord and for this his spirit got stuck in the frozen throne.This can show you how much stronger he was.After death he move to even stronger type of magic the unholy.No doubt Ner'zull is one of the strongest magic users and probably the strongest warlock.

Hm............So how is Kiljaeden more powerful the Archimonde....I mean is there a specific source for that......I mean sure they're both the generals of the burning legion and Kiljaeden had created some messed up stuff like the lock King but come on Archimonde killed the husband of Elune and downed cenarius too

There is not. They are considered pretty much equal. My impression as to why ppl tend to rank KJ higher than Archimonde is because KJ was somewhat of a mastermind behind Legion and that we always fought him after we fought Archimonde.

it mostly because Kil'jaeden is always fought after Archmonde in Both TBC and WOD/Legion. in Burning crusade you fight a full-powered Archmonde in caverns of time While Kil'jaeden was summoned at his weakest state in Sunwell according to Chris Metzen back when the last patch was released and he was the final boss of the expansion.
