I've notice that both die in places that usually symbolizes death (snow in the 1969 adaptation and red spider lilies in the 2019 adaptation)

The new one is a bit more endearing in my opinion. The old one is still as sad but it made the grief literal, the story was explained with dialogue more compared to how the new one shows it with actions and scenes.

@@TheRantae While I do agree with your statements, I also do disagree. While you could say that '69 adaptation is rather throwing it in your face that the mother has passed on, I'd say this said assault, while being very literal, is not necessarily a bad thing because it's shown in a way that comes off as natural. Dororo in this version is shown to be clearly younger and thus immature, as kids usually are. Top that with curiosity, as kid usually are, hence, her asking why her mother becoming cold all of a sudden is a product of her naturally being a kid and one of the stages of grief, that being denial. The old adaptation's uses of the dialogue to display Dororo's innocence and its end is a perfect story telling method which emphasizes on the right things for the right emotions. Yes, making things literal can be come off as bad storytelling but if its used right, just like this scene from the old adaptation, then it is not bad storytelling. I am sorry for replying to a 2 months old comment but I feel like I had to for a healthy discussion.

@@minunahein I'm completely agree with you! The 1969 is always the best to me because its has more depth behind. Personally, i still prefer the one in the manga, its has the most emotional panel to me whenver i read it.

I literally had tears in my eyes while watching the 2019 version's scene. Up until now, the 2019 version has outdone its predecessor in all respects. It hits hard where it needs to. The action is there. The emotion is there. All in all a very good anime. Definitely an anime of the year contender.

I like the gravity that everything in the 1969 version has. Everything seems to take its time to land those gut-punches just right. The ignorance of Dororo in the 1969 scene just turns the screw all the more. Putting it across the backdrop of winter with the chants makes the whole thing so oppressive and hopeless. There's just a ton of emotion there. It's like with the Mio scene in the 1969 version.

I think they made dororo more a mature child for 2 reason: don't make her annoying and also to be a better helper for hyakkimaru, who is less mature than in 69 version due his impossibility to talk telephaticaly like the older one.

Oh I see, that can be true, I didn't watch the old one sadly. Yes, thats probably why. If Dororo would be that unmature, then Hyakkimaru would been dead probably for now. I really like this version a lot, where Hyakki is clearly disabled, just starting to discover the world - its presentation is very cool in my opinion. And Dororo is very young but strong, cute and clever.

The 69 Dororo is more childlike. And the fact that she is having all those beautiful visions of what life after war would be while her mum is dying just makes me tear up. It's not just lives that wars take away but also childish innocence. I am pretty sure even though 69 Dororo is a brat, she is still a tough one. Her covering her pain with laugthers just freaking break my heart. Tho I like the 2019 dororo more, I can't deny the 69 one is powerful in another sense.

I personally agree with the manga! Dororo has an insteresting backstory and the story focus on her alone in the manga is more complex and emotional. ( even the author Osamu plan Dororo to be the main character but Hyaki got more popular so he changed i think) In the manga, I reallly love the parts when she went to met other characters instead of going with Hyaki only, her relationships with them are more complex because they see her more like a thief, not a hero like Hyaki, so i awlays wonder how child from a bandits family that has killed people and rob them got accept in a village. Too bad Hyaki took the main character spot, but i understand he is the true hero on the serie.

Amane Mizuhashi the '69 Dororo seems to be a lot younger when compared to the remake. I think that age difference sort of adds to the characters and makes them more realistic for their respective ages. While we could make the case that the trauma that the '69 Dororo goes through should make her wiser and mature, we cannot deny that she is still a kid and her attitude is most likely a coping mechanism of some sorts, though this is just my theory and can be very wrong as I have not finished watching either versions. This attitude can also be a front the '69 Dororo puts up but her naivety reminds us that she is a kid and the trauma may not be an influence on it.
