As an eighty year old lover of harp music especially jazz harp. I was married to a harpist for over twenty years and can appreciate the difficulty of everything about the instrument from lugging it everywhere to performances, difficulty in recording it in sessions, etc. I had forgotten about Detroit's own Dorothy Ashby and hearing her almost everyday on WJR so long ago. She was such a talented yet underappreciated, thanks to Stevie Wonder for his support she did get the respect she deserved.

I got here from a comment from a harpist commenting on an Alice Coltrane video. The eggheads were being critical of her style. The harpist stated "I played the harp because of these women" Thankful to hear this. Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

Thelonius Monk's "Round Midnight" on Dorothy Ashby's harp. If there is anything more hauntingly beautiful, I don't want to hear it because I might have to be a ghost--and you know what that means.

Did she put out any sub-par tracks? I’m getting tired of all these brilliant ones.

Since first hearing "Round Midnight" I imagined it a very difficult piece from which to convey its soul -- Ms. Ashby misses nothing in this translation.

Monk's tunes! : this , harmonically seems still the best of the best .and Ms. Ashby makes those changes so natural, inevitable creates her own melodic weave , so original . This is not a straightforward piece - y'have to know what you're doing . She does.

"Melodic weave" -- I could have searched a very long time for those words. Thank you Istvan Solihull. 5/2018
