Dorothy Kirsten/Frank Sinatra "My Romance"

Operatic soprano Dorothy Kirsten sings "My Romance" with Frank Sinatra. I believe this is a radio broadcast from January 1950.
Kirsten was quite adept at singing popular music and even jazz. Opera is more to my taste and I'm not a huge Sinatra fan but this is very pretty.

Doro is a great performer, she is great in opera and song. So was Caruso, Schipa, Traubel, Tauber, Pavarotti and every GREAT performer. We never heard a song of the famous Callas, Why ? Hans NL

While I greatly prefer her distinctive voice in opera she was fine at singing this type of music. Other sopranos may have sang such a song with an operatic voice but Kirsten was just as comfortable on the operatic stage as she was singing jazz and "great American songbook" with a completely different voice; most opera singers can't do this.

Same here, much prefer opera but as you pointed out this is unusually good (and versatile) for an opera singer. Listen to her opera singing and it's almost like a different person.

Sinatra's best voice was from 1939 to 1945. Hsang mostly ballads during that time.Later, with the advent of Rock and Roll, he had to change with the times and began singing Swing music. He continued his great popularity through a total of 7 decades, a remarkable career. He was a great singer because not only did he have silky ,smooth voice, but he understood music and knew how to use it. Most of all, he had that magic Charisma which captivated audiences.

He started singing swing years before Rock-n-Roll. Rock had NOTHING to do with his evolution.

Agreed, voice on the decline over the years probably with all the aforementioned; drinking and cigarettes. He was at his peak in the 40's with Axel Stordahl and those stellar composers who wrote for him: Rodgers & Hart, Porter, Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn, Jimmy VanHeusen et al

NOTE HOW SINATRA'S VOICE IS GOING THRU A CHANGE...THE SWEET HONEY SINATRA HAS A FEW JACK DANIELS, AND LUCKY STRIKES IN HIS VOICE..UNEVEN VIBRADO, ETC....TOO BAD...YES HE EVOLVED INTO A DYNAMIC SINGER, BUT RELIED ON SHOWMANSHIP RATHER THAN SINGING TALENT
