The perfume sub-plot continued from "The Pez Dispenser." Also, Jerry's monologue in front of the elevator is inspired from "The Elephant Man." And Elaine's monologue at the end is inspired from Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice."

I’m 63 and worked nights Thursday in 90s and missed this show. Watched for first time six months ago and binged through entire series 5 times and counting. It takes a while to recognize the Tanya Harding, OJ Simpson, McDonalds lawsuit etc references. Best show ever.

The network hated this episode and called it a “betrayal.” They ended up airing it out of order at a less than ideal time slot, but it still did ok and immediately became an audience favorite and eventually an iconic episode in TV history.

I don't ever remember knowing the titles (of any show for that matter), until I rented Seinfeld DVDs in the late 90s. I think the titles were printed in TV Guide if you cared to know. In the blurbs.

No one is really doing a Seinfeld binge, and you would corner the market if you just binged the whole show. Besides, that way, you wouldn't miss all the callbacks, you would stay in continuity (which becomes REALLY important in all the later seasons), and you could see how the style and writing develops. Take note of each episode's writers, and you will likely see some stand out.

One of Elaine's best exchanges is in that one. One of Jerry's friends is interested in her, but Elaine keeps brushing him off, and at the "intervention" this John character says "is it because I have a tissue stuffed up my nose?" and Elaine simply says "You're gettin warm." Not to mention George trying to get "hand".
