This dropped just in time for lunch today. What a cool trip. Life is better with some snow in it. Brave walking in that ice with how warm it was in the sun. Your scrambled eggs looked.... Yeah, I wasn't feeling it either. I mean, hot pouch in the jacket was good, right? Cool photography at night, awesome trip with friends. You're lucky to have guys to go out with like this. Nobody in our family or friend circle is generally willing to get out with us because they think we're crazy, but then I see guys out routinely doing twice what we do in a day, and I feel like we're pretty tame. I guess it's all perspective. Snow hikes are the best hikes. Less getting too hot, get to use cool gear, no bugs, smoother trails... Not much downside. I think we're headed for a good winter.

Thanks, JR! Ya, it was an awesome trip! Definitely feel lucky to have some good friends to hit the backcountry with. That was definitely one thing that is hard about moving away from Utah. But I'll be heading back there for another trio trip next summer! I agree with you on the winter backpacking! Cool temps and no crowds. Sign me up! Thanks for watching!

You're killing me. My so e just watched this and now he wants me to take him winter camping. We've only ever been in the summer before. ❄️🥶

Haha! Sorry to get you into something! 🤣 Depending on where you go you don’t need too much additional gear. Sometimes just laying up clothes, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads is enough. You guys will love it! Thank you for watching!!

This came up at a perfect time. I was just invited to do my first snow camping trip next month in desolation wilderness. The only thing I am worried about is being to cold at night. Great views around the lake.

Awesome trip video Jeff! Dig the background tracks, I've used the 1st one before haha. Pretty awesome you made camp and continued further for a day hike! I did that on my recent trip. A lot better to ditch most of the weight and continue to sightsee. The food seemed EPIC!

🤣🤣🤣 they almost made me not post the video at all… 🤣 seriously, those things were nasty. 🤢🤢🤢 I might just keep the few I have left in the food storage only to be eaten if I’m at risk of starvation…

Hey there, just came across your channel. Just subbed to support a fellow KZbin vlogger and hiker out there. I am a big baby when it comes to the cold. Once I get really chilled I have a hard time getting warm. I call it "cold butt syndrome". I'm sure there is an official name for it though. I have to put hand warmers literally down my pants in my sleeping bag because my lower legs and well butt just freeze after a long day of backpacking in below-freezing temps. It's for sure all about the right gear though. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. ~RVA Hiker Girl~

Hey! Glad you found me! Thanks so much for your support! I think that "cold butt syndrome" should be the official medical name for this condition. Those other official names are to hard to remember anyway. 🤣 I've been noticing your adventures recently on Instagram since I just moved to the VA area (Loudon County). Seems like you know all the spots around here! I'm definitely going to check out your channel as well! Thanks so much for watching!

@@DoseofDirt Well welcome to VA! Born and raised here, however, I lived in other states across the country for 13 years but eventually came back. So I know this state very well. I hike, camp and backpack all over. If you ever have any questions, feel free to shoot me a message. Happy to help! ~RVA~

Great trip video Jeff, How did the Gear Doctor sleep pad perform in that temperature? I was also surprised how much of a temperature swing from 60s down below freezing, lol. Question, When hiking through all that snow did your shoes get wet or freeze overnight? Did you have water proof socks? Thank You
@DoseofDirt3 жыл бұрын
The pad worked well. I stayed warm, so that's the most important thing. But for me I wish it was a little longer and wider. It's only 72 inches long and pretty narrow (especially at the feet). I'm going to be doing a video soon comparing it to the Paria Recharge XL (another similar R value pad, but wider, longer, and a little thicker). The boots I wore were water proof and I made sure to shake the snow off after we got out of deeper stuff. My feet stayed perfectly warm with these boots and some Injinji Ultra socks (their thickest socks). The boots were super cold in the morning, but didn't seem to be frozen. Thanks so much for watching!
