Very excited by a no-bot base, it looks very beautiful already! 36:10 That "water droplet crossed out" recipe lets you void water, so you can avoid the radar contraption. 41:51 Normally the confirm extinction button only needs you to kill spawners and worms. Not sure what was up with that. 52:28 Sorry about that, still working on that crash...
@DoshDoshington

Literally never noticed that recipe to void water. It's an interesting phenomenon how because you think you've already solved the problem you're effectively blinded to other potentially better solutions. The crash made me laugh more than anything. I didn't lose any progress because of it.

I once went to a lecture about the logistics of the Large Hadron Collider. The thing produces so much data that even after pruning out 99% of the irrelevant information and heavy compression it is still more than any landline can handle. To get it around the world to the labs that research it, the only option is to load it onto thousands of magnetic tapes using a giant robot, and ship it out on container ships. It’s a massive effort.

Not downplaying his achievements but I think it's important to remember how many hundreds of hours both in-game and offline planning things out we don't see. I guarantee this man has multiple PDF's (or maybe even hand written catalogues depending on his style) of all the components, placing and math involved. Unless he's in the like .0001% of walking supercomputers that have been born there HAS to be a shit ton of planning before the execution and even then the execution is 300+ hours. It's still impressive but I think one has to remember that before dismissing their own capabilities.

A way to save on scaffolding and make your base look cool is to create a deconstruction planner that only deconstructs scaffolding that doesn't have any buildings placed on it. That way you can spam as much scaffolding as you want while blueprinting, and hoover up everything except what's actually used. It makes the base look like it's hanging in space :)

I'd legit be willing to pay extra for the detailed explanation of how the sushi belt works. I've spent like 5 hours designing mine and it turned out to be as big as the production block for space science itself; with crap ton of priority splitters, belt scanners, etc. And only fit 8 packs. Here yours fit entirety of science packs in the mod using nothing but conditioned inserters. Hats off
@thomasegge5644

I just have all my space sciences dump onto a single belt which feeds into a warehouse. Set the inserters coming from the assemblers to only dump onto that belt in the first place if there are less than ~2k of that science in the warehouse so it doesn't overflow with one kind. Then have an inserter daisy chain feed your labs from the warehouse.

After watching your (and Michael Hendriks') runs, my own factorio playstyle is slowly changing. I used to care a lot about cityblocks, alignment, etc. Not it's a lot more "free-flowing" and compact. And it takes less time to "despagettify" it all now. This is so good... I can't wait for your overall thoughts on the mod. My feeling as of this time is that it's "overly complicated without good reason behind it or carrot to really overcome the challenges without resorting to brute force"... I mean, that it could be balanced like a puzzle, where you balance certain pro's with certain con's of every design and must create new and novel designs to get anywhere. Also, environment and biters coudl be more of a constant challenge where you very quickly notice un-optimal designs and bad resource utilization... but maybe it's just "unfinished" as of now and needs that overhaul before "final release" where all the fat is trimmed out... But maybe it's a Factorio thing, where you can just brute force yourself through obstacles with spaghetti, un-optimal designs and it'll just take longer, look worse, but it'll get you there if you wait long enough. The logistics of moving stuff around different surfaces is a great thing, but the mod could be (at least from the progress I've done so far) create more of hard brick walls where you HAVE TO create efficient and very large scale interplanetary production chains or you will wait for forever to get anywhere. Bit it's not a bad mod... one just has to remember that trying to speedrun the mod might be what they didn't want anyone to do. It's propably more about slow discovery and long... VERY LONG games that span over years or so with no real hurry... Oh well... we'll see :)

Usually I see people criticize the mod for being much too prescribed, forcing the player to do things that they would otherwise like to avoid. I'd say that the mod actively tries to be gentle with its prescriptions, as you said you can ultimately just do whatever you want if you spend sufficient effort, so any more heavy handedness would drive the community bonkers. My guess is that people playing a sandbox game don't like to be given rules. As for volume, even a moderate production of all the tier 9 modules will consume more than all the rest of your factory, though that is entirely optional. Otherwise, you'd need 10x, even 100x, science cost to make volume throughput a concern.

If anyone's curious "Anion-Ion Exchange Beads" probably refers to ion exchange resin. It's a packing of small synthetic beads with a desired ion attached packed into a column and is used to replace one ion in a solution for another by flowing the fluid through the packed column. It's used often to remove salts (in the chemistry sense, not just table salt) from process chemicals as part of purification.

Maybe if you're looking for video ideas after this, I might suggest making a train 'tutorial' of sorts. Mostly a slower breakdown of how you design, because there are too many people/videos that seem to encourage extremely ridged (limited, and boring) city-block-only designs. I am happy you had help on this one. Sure, it is nice to see you do solo work but seeing how long and intense this mod is, it is good to have some help. Besides, the variety on if it is solo vs group videos keeps things interesting!

The amount of time and effort that is going into beating space exploration terrifies me and and I can't believe I'm still debating about trying it out for myself. I blame you for making another great video.

29:30 If I'm not mistaken, the productivity modules should stack with multiplication, not addition, since after the first step you have more input to the second one. Which means you make about 37% of what you could do with productivity modules instead of 50% 🙃

I've played Factorio for just about 120 hours in total over the years, and I've launched 1 rocket. Watching this is like a finger painter watching Mozart play the piano and the music notes become physical objects and they pick up paint and paint masterpieces.

Well I certainly understand what you're going through, played SpaceX with a group for many days, and got to about tier 3 sciences across the board except the last one of course... Then it petered out for various reasons, including the worsening lag issues and map size. Who'd have thought have more planets could make that worse, even if you do some level of trimming and so. Also people had a few question marks lets say on some of the mods decisions on how things should be made and over all balance. So as noted in the first ep, one of those that never quite finished it, but was happy we got quite far. Wonder what you'll be thinking near the end.

Ion exchange beads are used in industry for a couple of things. In wine, calcium and other +2 cations form a complex with tartaric acid and make cream of tartar. This is undesirable as it leads to a loss of acidity and cold instability. By running the product through an ion exchange column, you can replace the calcium with hydrogen(ie acid) maintain stability and acidity.

Hey, just wanted to say I love your content. Its amazing how much you've grown in just a few months! I know these videos must be a lot of work to put together, but I really hope you keep with it. I'm very excited to see the next(and hopefully final) episode of SE, as well as whatever you have planned for the future. Keep up the great work!

Just want to join the choir and say thank you for this amazing content. I was watching this second part, while I was about the same stage in progressing through as SE as you were 20 minutes in to part 2. And I was sceptical to watch further, because I didn't want to spoil what was ahead for me. But curiosity killed the cat, and I watched it till the end. Now I'm questioning whether I want to progress further with my own run. Seeing how tedious many steps are, yet how comparatively few interesting challenges that are to solve. Anyways - enough rambling. Love your content!
