One of the few auto repair videos I've seen on KZbin that has clear explanations of what to do and a good view of what is being worked on. Thank you very much.

This is one of the few and BEST repair videos on the net. If you were solo in doing this, VERY impressive. Usually it takes two people to get this kind of quality. I liked the zoom technique you used in the beginning as well. Good job! DO MORE! My HHR is getting up there. I would love to see a video on transmission maintenance.

Excellent video! Made changing my struts a lot easier. Only constructive criticism would be on the video maybe use a little bit of lighting as it was a little harder to see where you were putting the pry bar. But I figured it out, but other than that straight to the point and easy to remove and install. 👍👍👍

You should get an alignment done struts affect your cast or chamber angles. I always get the two confused
@michaelkenney28455 жыл бұрын
any time you do anything to the suspension you should do an alignment. Hell if you back out of the driveway to fast in an HHR you should do an alignment lol.

Nice vid. I have those quick struts in my living room waiting for the Spring to do the whole front end. Knuckle included. Bought everything from RockAuto. This video makes the strut part look easy. I bought the A arms too and the bearing hub. I hope I can handle it.

My stuff came sooner than the expected date. There was a wrong part in the bunch. One part number digit off but they paid the return shipping and a new part came really fast.

Assuming you're using jack stands to support the car, use your jack to gently lift the knuckle up to relieve pressure off those bolts. That makes removal a lot easier. Just make sure to not damage the ball joint as you raise the knuckle.

Great video! But rule number 1! Jack stands. Never trust a jack! Everything else looked good a straight forward. Many thanks!

As long as you're not putting body parts under the car or the rotor, and just working in the wheel well then it really doesn't matter. Is it a good idea? Sure, but sometimes laziness (or necessity) wins out over caution.

@Daybreaker31017 жыл бұрын
Your video is very good. Do you have any knowledge of rattles coming from underneath an HHR after hitting a bump? I have replaced lower control arms. Swaybay struts seem to be good and so does the swaybar bushings.

do you have to get a front end alignment after you change the front end struts? do you have to change both sides when you change one?

I was told that if I do this, I will need to get an alignment. Is this true? I drive a 2006 HHR and will also be doing my sway bar links and bushings.
@dannyd86257 жыл бұрын
Yes. You'll need an alignment. I see your comment is almost 2 years old, so hopefully by now you've already found that out. This response is in case someone else sees your question.

swaybar link is hard to remove. Couldn't get pass it. ( the bolt spins with a nut) if replacing them aftermarket once come with a nut to hold from the other side in order to loosen them.

Boy that was easy. You should try it on a 98 Ford Windstar if you want to know what strut pain is like. Broke a 1/2 in breaker bar and 2 sockets trying to get the lower bolts loose. Had to buy a 3/4 inch breaker bar and 3/4 in drive sockets to get that bugger to pop loose. Then still had to remove the lower control arn and the drag link to get it to drop enough to remove the strut. Lots of cussing was needed to complete the task..

My mother was at carx 4 months ago getting sway bar links replaced and they suggested to replace the struts for $600 more, she said No,today she took the car there and dropped it off and the bill was $1,000,she felt ripped off.

Make sure you don't overtighten those top nuts. They're only 15ftlbs torque. My torque wrench malfunctioned and I broke one from overtightening.
